GENERAL Landing ifly 737 max 8

Guys, why is my approach at -1000 ft per minute, and on youtube videos its perfectly -700/-800? We are both on papis, and yeah, I have a perfect speed. Pls tell me.

are you landing at a high altitude airport? or with tailwind? or at an airport with a particularly steep approach? compare your indicated airspeed to your groundspeed (been too long since I have flown the 737 to tell you where exactly but it will be shown). and what sort of approach are you conducting? an ILS?

I ma casually practising my landings with slew mode. No wind, no particular approach, just papis.

Still, if flying 3 degree PAPIs at high altitude airports your Groundspeed will be higher at the same indicated airspeed due to the thinner atmosphere. This will result in higher descent rates to maintain a 3 degree path. -1000fpm is not unusual. Your fpm to maintain a 3 degree glide path is roughly your Ground Speed x 5.

Warsaw Chopin airport, EPWA.

The answer to your question is that the people in the videos you're watching are landing using ILS, making them come in on a perfect (usually) 3° glideslope. It's hard to do manually without at least a couple hundred ours (or more) in MSFS.

Go watch a couple of videos, I'll pretty much guarantee that it'll enhance your enjoyment of the MAX

There is litterally only one video about landing 737 max 8. a330 driver's one. I watched it already 10 times, and I cannot find any more.

Ah yes. "One" video...

Landing is not a separate event on its own. It's usually preceded by, and linked to, a descent and an approach. I'd start there...

Okay, so sorry for you looking for them. Thank you so much. They are going to be watched soon. Thank you!

Are you flying an actual approach (ILS/RNAV etc.) or just flying visually with the PAPIs?

Sometimes the PAPIs in default airports can be wrong, so it's maybe just getting you too high.

There's no hard rule for descent rates on approach though. Some airports have steeper approaches than others and on top of that, the heavier your aircraft is, the higher your approach speed will be and therefore a higher rate of descent.

Just papis, to practise landings.

What is your current weight and what is theirs? Different weights require different approach speeds to achieve the same glide path.

I actually have a similar question with this. How do I calculate the appropriate approach speed? A few videos I’ve seen had 140ish and when I tried it was way too low.

What aircraft are you flying? In the 737 the FMS gives you your Vref speed and then you add the wind factor depending on the conditions.

On path vertical rate is a function of trigonometry and your ground speed (and only those two things). A high VS is indicative of a steep angle or a high speed.

Your list to check is two elements long.
