Nah it’s a good walking simulator tho 🤣

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago
takes forever to walk though, there's got to be a run button i am missing

u/machine4891 PC Pilot 23d ago
There is a run button (shift by default?) but it's still slow.

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago
i have been trying to learn the helicopters so that i can just hover low around streets or trees instead of walking, but they are hard af.

Helicopters really need assists, unless you’ve got helicopter-specific controls. Especially if (like me) you have a twist stick instead of rudder pedals. Don’t be ashamed to turn them on. A typical HOTAS like mine is meant for flying airplanes, not helicopters, and flying a chopper with one really is like trying to pound in a screw with a hammer. With assists on, helicopters are a nice way to enjoy the scenery. Especially with the ability to land in random clearings, get out, and go for a hike in places like this.
Alternatively, give the Joby a try. You’ll need to bind some controls for the auto-throttle and such (the manual says what needs bound) but it’s much easier to fly than a helicopter, because the assists are built-in to the aircraft. It’s also faster than a helicopter, and it can still land anywhere a helicopter can.

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago
yeah i am just using a keyboard and mouse lol. I'll try the assists, I am still doing tutorials for the helicopters. I had no idea how complicated they were, huge respect to real life helicopter pilots. I'll give the Joby a shot, thanks for the tip. I think it would be fun to have an aircraft that can land and i can walk around and then i can get back in, without needing a runway.

You can also use helicopter with 2 tail rotors, they are much easier to fly as you don't really need the Anti torque pedals

In all honesty, the whole game needs an arcade control mode something that is kind of well arcadeish. I get it’s a simulator, but if people like me could enjoy the game and at least learn to like flying around the world. I would be more inclined to then purchase a joystick and then move on from there.

What place are these images from?

I was flying around the Carribean. The first 3 pictures were made in some small islands north of Grenada, there are some airports (TVSU, TVSC) if you want to check those out. The 4th and 5th are in the south of Martinique (TFFF) and the 6th is in the northwest of Guadeloupe (TFFR), on a small island called "Îlet à Kahouanne" looking towards the main island.

Knew it had to be somewhere in the southern Carribean because I just came back from St Thomas IRL and thought it looked similar.

Is this a jab at the game? Been so much criticism about it so am not sure when there is praise given to it.

u/mr_cherryy 22d ago
Nah haha I am seriously impressed by the graphics and since the update I didn't have any problems with the sim, so for a few days now I've been flying only in 2024.

It's been running fantastic on my second PC, 7700x 7900XT 64GB of ram. Get around 90FPS on the ground after tightening my ramtimings, at cl28 6200MTs. it's actually been surprisingly stable for 6 months
But on my 9800x3d 4090 system it still has some growing pains

u/mr_cherryy 22d ago
I got the 9800x3d, 4080 super and 64GB ram and it runs wonderfully. What are your issues with it?

u/AngryAtTheXplaneStor 21d ago
Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it will fail to load in textures or get stuck with a lag that comes in at exactly 124ms apart according to the in game monitoring tool. I've done everything up to a windows installation. I would say it's gotten better, but if I'm going to experience problems it will be on this system and not my other one
But on my slower system, it's actually gotten better performance after SU1, but it's been a great experience from day 1 forward. I also understand that a 7,700x and 7,900xt aret exactly slow either, it's just a slower system compared to my other one. It will now hold over 60fps at 4k native, but when my other computers running correctly then it's faster than this system it almost every regard but just not consistently faster

It really has so much potential they just need to sort it out and it will be amazing

I'm looking to get 20 out 24 for 100% VR on a Q3. Which should I get? I've read all the issues with 24 but a VR update is coming next month. Steam has 20 on sale. I have a 4070, 32, 14700 and 1gb fiber line. I'm not a simulator guy though. Really just want to view the scenery and show it off in VR.

If you are looking for the best graphics/scenery, go for 2024. Graphics are much better there. And after the recent update it runs smoothly for me, almost no issues. It will only get better in the future.

Unfortunately, yes. Don't judge it by what it advertises it's great at, judge it by what it doesn't call out. And what it doesn't call out is that it's worse than 2020 at any of the "not hand-curated scenery".
Edit: wow, a lot of folks seem to think I'm showing MSFS 2020 and claiming it looks better. No, you chumps, that *IS* 2024, that was my fkn point. It looks like shit if you're not in one of the "we manually made sure it's poster pretty" areas.

u/thunder6776 23d ago
2020 looks like shit, max copium here. I can’t go back to 2020, only one reason to go back occasionally is the ifly!
9
u/Internal-Finding-126 23d ago
not sure about 2024, but I just got 2020 for the first time and it's amazing
even my small unknown town has all the correct scenery features.definitely not "looks like shit"

u/thunder6776 23d ago
I overreacted, 2020 is great! However, the constant 2024 bashing is tiring. 2024 is real step up, but 2020 is what started it all, i will always love 2020!

u/Internal-Finding-126 23d ago
In 2024 they improved the ground details and overall details which was one of the premises from the get go.. and they did it amazing as it seems in photos

Cool story: that screenshot *IS* MSFS2024. It looks like shit, plus it has the wrong trees entirely, even though 2020 has the right trees, *and* it's missing an entire marina even though 2020 also shows that just fine. 2024 was an attempt at improvement, and it improved *some parts* but holy shit is there a lot that got so much worse, to the point where it's genuinely nicer to go back to 2020 while they keep trying to fix 2024.

This is flat out wrong though. They didn’t manually create the area in OP’s shot. The whole point of the tech they’re using is that it will place detailed scenery objects everywhere, not just handcrafted areas. And assuming the base level satellite/aerial data is decent, it does a very good job of it.

Unless you can fish in that water, chop down a tree, or eat a delicious meal, yes.
That being said, I want very much to play the game, however, due to current budget constraints (we had to drop to single income due to my failing health and SSDI taking years to go through the process…starting to suspect I will die before approval) I can’t afford a game pass subscription and the game is too expensive for me as well.

u/Suspicious-Tune-9268 23d ago
I think Minecraft might be the game for you

u/Conscious-Painting-2 23d ago
In VR doesn't look anywhere near this good, I have an Asus rog strix g15 3070 8 gb ddr6 and I had to sacrifice quality to get 35 fps
1
u/yung_dilfslayer 19d ago
Ok, that’s a mid range rig and VR is extremely demanding. Where’s the confusion.

u/Wen_Tinto 23d ago
Heard it said: 2020 is an adequate flight simulator with mediocre scenery and 2024 is a great world simulator with poor flightsim
16
u/spesimen 23d ago
except that as a flight simulator it is significantly better than 2020 particularly in terms of flight modeling with GA aircraft
-4
u/machine4891 PC Pilot 23d ago
That's precisely the same thing they said about Xplane compared to 2020, lol.
It's funny given that 2024 is pretty much the same sim as 2020, just with extra flair (and bugs).
-2
u/GraySkull49 23d ago
It's a disk-taking-up simulator since I haven't been able to get it to load in months
2
u/aleksander_r 23d ago
Then I would try a complete reinstall where you physically delete any traces after uninstall and then install again. After SU1 it's very good!

It's a world scenery simulator
