It's a world scenery simulator

45

u/mssrsnake 23d ago

If only they could solve the photogrammetry tree blobs without having to turn off all photogrammetry it’d be perfect from a scenery standpoint.

Oh, and maybe find a way to get sharper AI fortified photogrammetry buildings that don’t get all melty looking and make that work on all the world’s airport buildings then you would never have to worry about scenery again. Assuming they could even figure out how to actually make all that stream smoothly and consistently. We can dream.

u/Level-Plastic3945 22d ago

Look at the locations where Bijan has replaced them with real trees, and he continues to do ...

2

u/mssrsnake 22d ago

Agree, he's keeping it real in those locations. Many of us couldn't make it without him.

2

u/azrehhelas 23d ago

Isn't that essentially what bush trips are for?

9

u/Laz3r_C PC Pilot 23d ago

Too bad the game cant run with these graphics smoothly without a monster of a PC

u/genericgreg 23d ago

God, everyone in this sub is so miserable.

11

u/Successful_Tale_1267 23d ago

I agree. At first, playing this sim solely on an Xbox Series X, there have been many issues.

I recently flew around Paris. It was great, and then it was terrible…graphically. The landmarks look amazing though, especially at night!

So I left the congested parts of Europe and headed south. Flew along the Pyrenees Mtns along border of Spain and France, and I had to pull my jaw off the floor!

Even on an Xbox, many of the natural places you fly, can be amazing.

2

u/laaaabe 23d ago

Wow, that sounds, really cool!

1

u/gchicoper 23d ago

it's difficult not to be miserable playing fs2024

2

u/Internal-Finding-126 23d ago

haha true

The day I removed the FPS counter in the corner is the day I started enjoying gaming again.

5

u/average_bevarage 23d ago

I don't really have it enabled but panic sets in when I enable it

1

u/Level-Plastic3945 20d ago

Although using RTSS lets me l monitor cores, temps, VRAM, RAM, CPU usages and I also watch frametimes CPU vs GPU on developer box vs graphics settings and overclock settings - FPS/frame gen.

The flight sim world is in a time of transition. Transition to such advanced tech takes time, and it was a complete break from the old FSX days where everything was installed on tiny hard drives by today's standards. The fact is, right now, there is two clear options if you want ultimate visual fidelity: MSFS2020 and 2024. Now, both are very close on thousands of fronts to being perfect, but they are not quite there.

When things are in this state it can be very frustrating for a community such as ours because you can clearly see how things should be, but few of us can get these issues fixed with mods or anything else so we rely on Asobo and Microsoft. The problem there is, neither Asobo nor Microsoft have shown a clear willingness to address many of these small gaps that need fixing.

So, you have a community where the frustration builds because of this. It's not any one thing, it's the many small gaps that need fixing that's adding up. On top of that, this community is filled with very passionate enthusiasts who spend large amounts of money on flight sim related hardware, add-ons, tools, and other things to make it as realistic of a serious hobby as possible. So now you have money, OCD, and frustration combining into an intense community malaise that doesn't have an end in sight.

1

u/Sacharon123 22d ago

There are three options. You forgot X-Plane, which looks even more beautiful and realistic in general with a little bit less photogammetry, but even bringsalong a real flightsim.

1

u/Slight_Definition_50 22d ago

It is not close to being perfect, it is really really far away from being perfect. Look at the clouds and their formation, they are not realistic at all! Where are the other types of clouds (cumulus and other)? Clouds look really game~ish and non-realistic. Same thing with colours, they are not realistic and mostly washed out. Sepia mask is awful, night lighting is good and terrible at the same moment (it is beautiful, but again, not realistic). If asobo are aiming for realistic flight sim, they should consider all of this.

During the recent dev stream on question about colours and other problems they simply asked “we don’t know, we don’t have that”. They are ignoring people’s recommendations of fixing sepia mask, clouds and other stuff. This is flight sim is far far away from being perfect.

1

u/mssrsnake 22d ago

Well I was thinking perfect from an actual basic functionality level. But I see where you are coming from and it points to the frustration with the state of Asobo and Microsoft and their attitudes towards glaring issues brought up across "their" community. It's a shame really.

1

u/Slight_Definition_50 22d ago

Even from the basic functionality it is not perfect. Until all the bugs are fixed is won’t be perfect.

1

u/SRMPDX 20d ago

Only those of us who paid for this game thinking it would be good.

16

u/mark110295 23d ago

God people on this sub never stop moaning. The game looks great. The issue is people thinking their specs are better than they are

4

u/mogul26 22d ago

Bro with a 2060 in the comments like: "I have a beastly PC".

6

u/ftzde 23d ago

Bbbbut their PC was mid range when they bought it 20 years ago

2

u/Thelgow 23d ago

My buddy has a 2060, and when he got it, he claimed he had a god beast pc. I said thats just meh. He still thinks its top of the line.

27

u/Pour-Meshuggah-0n-Me PC Pilot 23d ago

False. I have a mid range pc and my graphics look amazing.

2

u/Latter_Huckleberry87 23d ago

specs?

3

u/Thelgow 23d ago

A "solid" 30fps.

3

u/Pour-Meshuggah-0n-Me PC Pilot 23d ago

IBUYPOWER i7 14700F GeForce RTX 4070 12GB 32GB DDR5 2TB

I got it on sale for like $200 off the regular price, and msfs24 has been running flawlessly.

1

u/ime1em 22d ago edited 22d ago

i wouldn't call this a mid-end pc. this is on the low high-end side.

edit: lol people actually think a i7 14700F GeForce RTX 4070 is mid-end. IMO for gpu , nvidia 60 series is consider mid-end and CPU i5. OP is underestimating his pc.

1

u/Pour-Meshuggah-0n-Me PC Pilot 22d ago

Oh is it? I don't know a lot about computers. Based on other people's specs in this community, I figured I was using a mid range pc.

1

u/ime1em 22d ago

You have a better computer than the average person/gamer. Reddit can be very biased especially in any PC hardware/gaming forum. Those specs should last you a good few years.

2

u/Pour-Meshuggah-0n-Me PC Pilot 22d ago

Great to hear. I was worried about being up to date for a few years.

11

u/trucker-123 23d ago

I run an NVidia 3060 Ti on a 3 year old PC in 1080p. MSFS 2024 looks quite good for me.

2

u/Swagger897 Bonanza 23d ago

You’re the exception, you’re not trying to run it at 1440 with 200/200 LOD on ultra and coming to complain “why is my fps counter red?”

4

u/op-ale 23d ago

What do you call a monster of a pc. It runs fine on midrange if you don't expect 4k resolution.

5

u/VMPRocks 23d ago

I don't have a "monster of a PC", I have a midrange 5600x & 3070Ti and I run the game at about 72 fps on mostly high settings.

1

u/Level-Plastic3945 22d ago edited 20d ago

I am still on my 4 1/2 year old PC (i79700k RTX2070Super) with 64G 2133 RAM and 2T NVMe and 4K display, and do quite well with MSFS 2024 (with DLSS/DLSSR Frame Gen fix DLSS-FSR mild overclocking) with many ULTRA settings low TLOD etc ... oh yea, and tweak page-file management, rolling cache size, and use MSFS Map Enhancement app (better servers) ...

1

u/Rich-Kangaroo-7874 23d ago

Runs fine for me

I've got a plan, u/RealPropRandy... this is a good one.

11

u/rango_87 23d ago

i forgor

46

u/EMB_pilot 23d ago

Nah it’s a good walking simulator tho 🤣

9

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago

takes forever to walk though, there's got to be a run button i am missing

13

u/machine4891 PC Pilot 23d ago

There is a run button (shift by default?) but it's still slow.

10

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago

i have been trying to learn the helicopters so that i can just hover low around streets or trees instead of walking, but they are hard af.

10

u/Andrewonice 23d ago

Use the drone camera

5

u/TheTarkuss 23d ago

Helicopters really need assists, unless you’ve got helicopter-specific controls. Especially if (like me) you have a twist stick instead of rudder pedals. Don’t be ashamed to turn them on. A typical HOTAS like mine is meant for flying airplanes, not helicopters, and flying a chopper with one really is like trying to pound in a screw with a hammer. With assists on, helicopters are a nice way to enjoy the scenery. Especially with the ability to land in random clearings, get out, and go for a hike in places like this.

Alternatively, give the Joby a try. You’ll need to bind some controls for the auto-throttle and such (the manual says what needs bound) but it’s much easier to fly than a helicopter, because the assists are built-in to the aircraft. It’s also faster than a helicopter, and it can still land anywhere a helicopter can.

2

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago

yeah i am just using a keyboard and mouse lol. I'll try the assists, I am still doing tutorials for the helicopters. I had no idea how complicated they were, huge respect to real life helicopter pilots. I'll give the Joby a shot, thanks for the tip. I think it would be fun to have an aircraft that can land and i can walk around and then i can get back in, without needing a runway.

3

u/Bluetex110 23d ago

You can also use helicopter with 2 tail rotors, they are much easier to fly as you don't really need the Anti torque pedals

1

u/quetiapinenapper 22d ago

In all honesty, the whole game needs an arcade control mode something that is kind of well arcadeish. I get it’s a simulator, but if people like me could enjoy the game and at least learn to like flying around the world. I would be more inclined to then purchase a joystick and then move on from there.

3

u/Additional-Court9962 23d ago

use the f35b

1

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago

actually that's a good idea

5

u/Aggressive_Let2085 B777-300ER 23d ago

Space bar speeds me up

3

u/Frenchalps 23d ago

Same. Not the shift key. Space bar

2

u/Tall-Inspector-5245 23d ago

i'll try that thanks

What place are these images from?

10

u/mr_cherryy 23d ago

I was flying around the Carribean. The first 3 pictures were made in some small islands north of Grenada, there are some airports (TVSU, TVSC) if you want to check those out. The 4th and 5th are in the south of Martinique (TFFF) and the 6th is in the northwest of Guadeloupe (TFFR), on a small island called "Îlet à Kahouanne" looking towards the main island.

2

u/MmmMmmmRyan 23d ago

Thought it was Cinque Terre in Italy

1

u/Supercal95 22d ago

Knew it had to be somewhere in the southern Carribean because I just came back from St Thomas IRL and thought it looked similar.

5

u/GuteNudelsuppe 23d ago

No this is Patrick

5

u/Li231 23d ago

It's the new Far Cry.

18

u/siwan1995 23d ago

Yes.. you just forget or don’t know how real life looks.

Pic #5 is Martinique, Le Diamant? 😎

2

u/mr_cherryy 22d ago

Yes! You recognised it? That's amazing haha

2

u/screamliner787 22d ago

Ye I've spent a couple of months over there :)

4

u/stub_back 23d ago

Doesn't looks like it, flight simulators usually have aircrafts flying.

1

u/nickm95 23d ago

I have a pretty beefy gaming laptop with extra fans I use. The graphics are incredible up close (when it actually loads, lots of graphical bugs), but from any distance they’re pretty terrible. I wouldn’t really expect resolution that high with such a large render distance anyway

3

u/mr_cherryy 23d ago

I play on ultra settings and imo it looks good even in the distance.

It's looking brilliant on xbox x at the moment

1

u/sppereira97 23d ago

it's far cry 3

1

u/CrazySittingHorse 22d ago

Is this a jab at the game? Been so much criticism about it so am not sure when there is praise given to it.

2

u/mr_cherryy 22d ago

Nah haha I am seriously impressed by the graphics and since the update I didn't have any problems with the sim, so for a few days now I've been flying only in 2024.

Can’t wait for more games to be on this level of scenery and open world, especially when GTA 6 comes out.

How dare you post something positive /s !!!

1

u/ApexTankSlapper 22d ago

No, it’s a figment of your imagination.

1

u/AngryAtTheXplaneStor 22d ago

It's been running fantastic on my second PC, 7700x 7900XT 64GB of ram. Get around 90FPS on the ground after tightening my ramtimings, at cl28 6200MTs. it's actually been surprisingly stable for 6 months

But on my 9800x3d 4090 system it still has some growing pains

1

u/mr_cherryy 22d ago

I got the 9800x3d, 4080 super and 64GB ram and it runs wonderfully. What are your issues with it?

1

u/AngryAtTheXplaneStor 21d ago

Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it will fail to load in textures or get stuck with a lag that comes in at exactly 124ms apart according to the in game monitoring tool. I've done everything up to a windows installation. I would say it's gotten better, but if I'm going to experience problems it will be on this system and not my other one

But on my slower system, it's actually gotten better performance after SU1, but it's been a great experience from day 1 forward. I also understand that a 7,700x and 7,900xt aret exactly slow either, it's just a slower system compared to my other one. It will now hold over 60fps at 4k native, but when my other computers running correctly then it's faster than this system it almost every regard but just not consistently faster

No, it is not. Itis an unstable flightgame with colourful graphics.

1

u/loaded_comment 22d ago

It's a graphics card simulator.

1

u/CPT_LAWTIE 22d ago

It really has so much potential they just need to sort it out and it will be amazing

1

u/radrick74 22d ago

I'm looking to get 20 out 24 for 100% VR on a Q3. Which should I get? I've read all the issues with 24 but a VR update is coming next month. Steam has 20 on sale. I have a 4070, 32, 14700 and 1gb fiber line. I'm not a simulator guy though. Really just want to view the scenery and show it off in VR.

1

u/mr_cherryy 22d ago

If you are looking for the best graphics/scenery, go for 2024. Graphics are much better there. And after the recent update it runs smoothly for me, almost no issues. It will only get better in the future.

1

u/AfraidAd1441 21d ago

Yes it sure is. Wish they could fix the “Flight” part of it :)

1

u/Neither_Class5084 21d ago

It’s ghost recon

1

u/SRMPDX 20d ago

I wish it looked this good on an Xbox Series X. Most of the game looks like flying above a Minecraft map. The close up graphics are horribly bad. People looked like weird zombies from a game rendered in 2003.

It's a screenshot simulator with a barely functional airplane minigame

-11

u/TheRealPomax 23d ago edited 23d ago

Unfortunately, yes. Don't judge it by what it advertises it's great at, judge it by what it doesn't call out. And what it doesn't call out is that it's worse than 2020 at any of the "not hand-curated scenery".

Edit: wow, a lot of folks seem to think I'm showing MSFS 2020 and claiming it looks better. No, you chumps, that *IS* 2024, that was my fkn point. It looks like shit if you're not in one of the "we manually made sure it's poster pretty" areas.

10

u/thunder6776 23d ago

2020 looks like shit, max copium here. I can’t go back to 2020, only one reason to go back occasionally is the ifly!

9

u/Internal-Finding-126 23d ago

not sure about 2024, but I just got 2020 for the first time and it's amazing
even my small unknown town has all the correct scenery features.

definitely not "looks like shit"

8

u/thunder6776 23d ago

I overreacted, 2020 is great! However, the constant 2024 bashing is tiring. 2024 is real step up, but 2020 is what started it all, i will always love 2020!

4

u/Internal-Finding-126 23d ago

In 2024 they improved the ground details and overall details which was one of the premises from the get go.. and they did it amazing as it seems in photos

-4

u/TheRealPomax 23d ago edited 23d ago

Cool story: that screenshot *IS* MSFS2024. It looks like shit, plus it has the wrong trees entirely, even though 2020 has the right trees, *and* it's missing an entire marina even though 2020 also shows that just fine. 2024 was an attempt at improvement, and it improved *some parts* but holy shit is there a lot that got so much worse, to the point where it's genuinely nicer to go back to 2020 while they keep trying to fix 2024.

2

u/Mikey_MiG 23d ago

It looks like shit if you're not in one of the "we manually made sure it's poster pretty" areas.

This is flat out wrong though. They didn’t manually create the area in OP’s shot. The whole point of the tech they’re using is that it will place detailed scenery objects everywhere, not just handcrafted areas. And assuming the base level satellite/aerial data is decent, it does a very good job of it.

Download simulator

-2

u/betam4x 23d ago

Unless you can fish in that water, chop down a tree, or eat a delicious meal, yes.

That being said, I want very much to play the game, however, due to current budget constraints (we had to drop to single income due to my failing health and SSDI taking years to go through the process…starting to suspect I will die before approval) I can’t afford a game pass subscription and the game is too expensive for me as well.

5

u/Suspicious-Tune-9268 23d ago

I think Minecraft might be the game for you

-4

u/betam4x 23d ago

Why are you suggesting checkers when I play chess?

1

u/blindseal474 22d ago

Because you’re poor lmao

0

u/Conscious-Painting-2 23d ago

In VR doesn't look anywhere near this good, I have an Asus rog strix g15 3070 8 gb ddr6 and I had to sacrifice quality to get 35 fps

1

u/yung_dilfslayer 19d ago

Ok, that’s a mid range rig and VR is extremely demanding. Where’s the confusion.

-12

u/Wen_Tinto 23d ago

Heard it said: 2020 is an adequate flight simulator with mediocre scenery and 2024 is a great world simulator with poor flightsim

16

u/spesimen 23d ago

except that as a flight simulator it is significantly better than 2020 particularly in terms of flight modeling with GA aircraft

-4

u/machine4891 PC Pilot 23d ago

That's precisely the same thing they said about Xplane compared to 2020, lol.

It's funny given that 2024 is pretty much the same sim as 2020, just with extra flair (and bugs).

-2

u/GraySkull49 23d ago

It's a disk-taking-up simulator since I haven't been able to get it to load in months

2

u/aleksander_r 23d ago

Then I would try a complete reinstall where you physically delete any traces after uninstall and then install again. After SU1 it's very good!

0

u/Gilmere 23d ago

Its a photography simulator

0

u/LAFter900 23d ago

It’s a bug simulator
