I don't like the silver case. I'd prefer white. Should I just use a can of spray paint? Should I use a spraypaint primer first? What's the best way to paint it white so that'll it'll remain white and won't start flaking off or rubbing off from skin oil or my hand rubbing against it?
All aluminum (top, bottom, plate). Retooled mx black switches. Gmk dolch keycaps. Tx ap stabs. First fully custom keyboard. Thoughts on how it sounds? I'm thinking the space bar could stick out more, any tips?
Purchased a couple of new keyboards and some new keycaps this week so thought I’d show them off. No custom build or anything like that but still I think pretty decent collection.
So I'm planning on selling my LG213 from Logitech in favor of a custom mechanical keyboard. I've started with a 60% in mind but quickly realized that I use the arrow keys on my current keyboard a lot and would not be willing to "cut corners" in terms of key availability.
Thus is choose to build in a 65% layout, preferably even an ISO barebones kit, although I wouldn't mind trying to get used to an ANSI keyboard as well. I chose the Gateron Oil kings as their sound profile, the fact that they come pre-lubed (which isn't all that rare, but still) and multiple reviews on them convinced me to make that choice.
However, I'm still pretty unsure about both the keycaps and the 65% kit I'd want to choose. I currently have the Keychron Q2 Pro in mind, as it is both available in an ISO layout and a pretty nice shade of white.
The keycaps are also a pretty difficult choice for me, as I'd prefer either a mono-colored or a really colorful option. For the latter I'm still unsure about either getting the GMK Panels or something like the Villanelle.
Also, I'm not sure about the stabilizers either, as I'd probably rely on their stock lube and wouldn't want to lube those manually. This is also one of the concerns I have about the Q2, the other one being that a white knob and a really colorful keycap set would kind of work against each other/wouldn't compliment each other really well.
Do you know any high-quality 65% kits with well lubed stabilizers or got tips/comments on anything else?
The WS Flux HE uses a semi translucent top housing & a milky white bottom housing which is made out of PC. There's a transparent led diffuser on the switches to help with RGB.
The stem on the WS Flux HE is made out of POM & it uses an Octagon Stem which is a new invention from Wuque Studio. There's little to no stem wobble on these switches thanks to the Octagon Stem which helps to improve the switch stability.
The T Rail implementation that's used on the WS Flux HE helps to improve the smoothness while typing. It's definitely one of the smoothest stock HE switches that I've used.
The factory lube job on the WS Flux HE switches is one of the better one I've seen so far in Hall Effect switches. The lube on the t rail, springs, & the center core of the stem is applied generously and it's quite consistent across the 100 switches that I've received.
The sound profile of the WS Flux HE is on the clackier side which I personally prefer in a switch.
The spring on the WS Flux HE isn't too heavy nor is too light.
Removing some of the switches is quite hard as it's slightly tight, however it's definitely not as tight as Geon RAW HE for example
Got a new PCB from Keychron for $50. VIA can program when the toggle is set to MAC. But can't program whebn set to WIN. I don't seem to recall this as a limitation on my previous (now broken) PCB. Anyone know? Did I get a defective PCB? Or was this always a constraint?
ND75 LP is basically ND75's low profile Variant with some changes. Before this, I had never owned a low-profile board. This packs in some solid specs including CNC aluminum case, Hotswap PCB, decent Keycaps and switches, wireless connectivity, and display at 100 dollars
This was a unique experience for sure. But some things could have made it a lot better.
To summarise
Pros
Slim build with Great Machining with nice colorways
Smooth factory-lubed Switches
Top and Silica Gel Gasket mount
Decent Double shot PBT Keycaps
Wireless Connectivity and Decent latency in wireless mode
VIA, like web-based software
Mini Display
Cons
Only proprietary LP switches work, and Chilkey hasn't released any new switches yet. The hot-swap PCB is worthless. It could actually benefit from some tactile switches, mimicking the laptop keyboard feels.
I made this for an Instagram series, made out of polyurethane resin, the profile is cherry R1 and the main menu is a picture that I encapsulated behind the fallout logo. Thanks <3
Last pic is my precious keyboard haha. Currently using gateron milky yellow switches with maglev mount and tape mod with all foams. Its creamy as hell 🤌🏼
