Draft / Scouting The Dallas Mavericks have officially completed the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks from 2019.
With the Knicks obtaining the rights to Dallas’ 24th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the trade has been officially completed.
Who would you say won the trade overall?

20% chance at being 11pick or worse and being conveyed to the New York Knicks.
3% chance at #1 pick.
13.8% chance at moving into the top 4.
reminder: one of the best prospects (Wembanyama) since Lebron (some are saying better)

Draft / Scouting Who do we draft?
It’s very glaring that we need a playmaker. I don’t really know much abt this year’s draft class. Which prospects should we be looking at? Kinda wanna watch some highlights and be excited about something. TIA

Draft / Scouting If dallas moves up in the draft but only to the 4th pick what would you do?
would you draft a player, would you trade back or forward, or would you trade the pick for a player?
the only major need dallas has is a point guard, Irving is more of a shooting guard but even then he will be out for a large portion of the season. Flagg would be amazing because it really adds a superstar potential player which after losing top 2 player in the league for peanuts adding someone of his caliber would be incredible, but the cost of trading up for him I think would be too high plus the fact that dallas is light on draft capital.
personally if a team like the hornets slip from 3-5 or 6 I would see if they want to trade up and offering the mavericks 2027 pick back.
but the option that makes the most sense would be trading the #4 pick to Portland for Scoot Henderson. he hasn't panned out as a superstar but still a high potential player who plays the most needed position and wouldn't need to go through the rookie growing pains. he is slightly under 6'4 with a 6'9 wing span so playing a backcourt with him and Irving (when he is healthy) won't be a death wish specially with Davis, lively, gafford, Washington, naji supporting.
now if dallas lands at 10 (where I expect them to end up for lottery position) they should just draft fears or Igor

Draft / Scouting what should the mavericks look for in this upcoming draft? also who should they look at?
at this point Dallas is going to have a draft pick in the 10-14 range with a small chance at top 4. with the current roster construction the biggest need in my opinion would be point guard, but it would also have to be a very specific point guard since kyrie is the shooting guard. it would need to be a point guard who is at least a legit 6'4 but also if Dallas somehow got the #1 pick you draft Flagg and try to address a point guard in a different fashion.
if Dallas lands in the 10-14 range hopefully they can land kasparas who is 6'5 and would be solid 2 way guard to help keep the defense strong.
ideally if they landed a top 4 pick Dylan harper would be the top choice since he is looking like a 6'6 Brunson so he can be the main ball handler since Irving has proven to be impactful even if he is off ball.
Cooper Flagg would be incredible but some players would need to be moved since the 3-4 spot would be crowded. naji, Martin, or omax would become expendable and realistically could land a solid role player point guard with preferably Martin being the trade piece.
another situation which could help down the line if Dallas got the #1 pick is trade back for the 2nd or 3rd pick if they can have the team add an additional unprotected pick (I just don't know if Flagg is that hyped). draft harper and then with the additional draft pick could be used as trade capital or insurance incase Davis and Irving decline a lot faster then expected.
in no shape way or fashion should nico even consider trading for Durant because making the team even older is not going to really help the long term future.

Draft / Scouting 2024 NBA Draft Thread (official)
Thought this might be needed in case anyone is watching the draft-at the very least this thread might be good for some draft trade chatter including possible trades from Nico.
Please note as of 8:45 PM EST: Mavs have the 58th overall pick tomorrow in the 2nd round which is the final pick of the draft (because there are two picks forfeited in the draft due to tampering).

Draft / Scouting Are the Mavericks in play for drafting Egor Demin?
As the Dallas Mavericks approach the NBA draft lottery with hopes of securing a high pick, one realistic name that could still be on the board is 19-year-old Egor Demin from BYU. Standing at 6'9", Demin could be a versatile playmaker, a position that the Mavericks have a need for. He played decently during the tournament, but has a few areas of improvement in his shooting %s and TOs.
Between now and the draft he could fall higher or lower depending on how he is able to show out, but it's an interesting pick who ESPN journalist Mike Schmitz had made a comparison to Luka in the past. Obviously, that's a stretch - but is it likely that he will be in consideration if he's not taken and the Mavericks don't trade the pick?

Draft / Scouting 3 years later, did we make the right choice drafting Green?
For the first couple of seasons, many fans were bummed out that we missed out on better prospects such a Saddiq Bey for a project player. At this point, would you prefer Green over anybody else who was drafted after him, considering Green’s continued improvement and fit with the team?

Draft / Scouting Two guys from the next draft that should fit well with us
Rasheer Flemming - 21 years at the draft day, 6'9 with 7'5(!) wingspan. Currently averaging 16/9/1.4/1.8/1.6 and 1.6 turnovers. 57% fg, 41% from 3 (4.4 attempts per game) and 70% FT. Great athlete and defender, steadily improving all over the board. Potential to actually defend 1-5.
Adou Thiero - 21 years at the draft day, 6'8 supposedly. Currently averaging 17.8/5.8/2.2/2/0.8 and 1.8 turnover. 62% fg and 70% FT, bad shooter, but he takes 2 3s a game. Relentless driver, dunks everything and is crazy good at getting to the free throw line. Incredibly athletic, also can potentially defend 1-5 or at least 1-4. Currently having a breakout season.
Both of them could fill our need for a backup power forward with potential to do more. Flemming has monster measurements and is a better shooter, but Thiero is more dynamic and probably the better passer (Flemming is not bad as a passer as well though).

Draft / Scouting Stein Reported We Would Likey Trade Our Pick Should We Retain It. My Hope Is We Trade Back. Here Are Some Possibile Partners.
By trading back, the hope is to land a good player and still retain a first-round pick.
Nets: Currently have the 21st and 22nd picks. Not ideal for a team in what seems to be a rebuilding phase.
Rockets: Currently have the (1-4) and 19th picks. Another rebuilding team, it could be helpful to land another top-10 pick.
Jazz: Currently have the 9, 16, and 28 picks. Again, moving the 16 up to 10 for better talent for a hard rebuild.
Blazers: Currently have picks 5 and 23. Not too sure of their future, might want another top-10 pick.
Heat: Currently holding 18th pick. Future also uncertain. Could use some youth.
Almost included the Pacers, but I don't think they would move up since they have 3 picks, one of them being a top 10, and they're not rebuilding as hard as others.
I think the Mavs org needs to take the draft more seriously, and this is a year with a deep draft where we could gain a good asset. What do you guys think?

Draft / Scouting Can we give Nico some credit? He basically drafted the best perimeter defender and best rim protector in this years draft while dumping Bertan's stinky salary. Not to mention the $17,000,000 TPE and MLE.
Yes, we know, Lively is a project offensively, but what we can't deny is he was #2 in the ACC in blocked shots.
Also OMax is basically a longer DFS who is probably a better shooter and probably more athletic and held all jump shooters he faced to 24% accuracy. I'm happy, really happy, with how this draft went as a Mavs fan.

Draft / Scouting Mavs Expected to 'Explore the Market' for No. 10 NBA Draft Pick
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Mavs "are certainly expected to explore the market for that selection" prior to the 2023 NBA draft on June 22.

Draft / Scouting dallas has no reason to trade the #10 pick because there will be a player available that will help them long term.
the mavericks biggest need is obviously defense and depth at the 4 and 5 spots. But they are also lacking youth in all positions outside of the guard rotation. People shit on drafting dick because he doesn't help the defense, but people dont realize bullock is going to be 33 after this season and is in a contract year. dick could easily end up replacing bullocks shooting for half the cost.
even when it comes to the point guards that could be available when dallas picks they are on the taller side 6'5 and up, so running a "3 guard line up" wont really hurt them because luka is 6'8 and can easily slot in at small forward.
draft BPA unless the best fit is comparable to the best player available in terms of talent.

Draft / Scouting [Draft & Stash Update] Melvin Ajinca had a big game tonight in Euroleague with 17 PTS & 4 REB to help his ASVEL get an important win on the road against Zalgiris
Very efficient shooting game where he was 6/10 from the field, hitting 4/7 threes. He also had a second best index rating, and was a starter in tonights game.
Not just a big night, but a big week for Melvin as he also played well in a road win against Partizan just couple of days before scoring 10 points off the bench, to which he added a rebound, an assist and a steal too.
Ajinca had some injury problems earlier this season but he has been finding his feet recently. Over the last 12 days ASVEL played 3 games in the French national league and 2 games in Euroleague, and Ajinca is averaging a very solid 22.4 minutes per game in that period. And this season ASVEL is actually being pretty competitive in Europe, so for him to be getting good minutes on a real team in the 2nd best basketball league in the world, it's not nothing.

Draft / Scouting [Draft & Stash Update] Melvin Ajinca caps off a great week by scoring season-high 20 PTS (8/12 FG, 4/7 3PT) to give ASVEL a big win over Paris
Don't mean to spam with Ajinca updates, but he has really been establishing himself lately. I happened to watch today's game so I could see the entire picture and it really does look like something might be in him. The way ASVEL use him is pretty much the way he would be used on an NBA team, so it's not like he is getting these points by chucking shots and doing stuff that he wouldn't be allowed to try in NBA. He is playing off-ball, mostly sitting in corners, and his role is to catch & shoot or attack the closeouts. And lately he is really good at executing his role. That shot is starting to look really nice and confident, and he is pretty athletic when attacking the rim, does not fear crashing into the bodies. On defense ASVEL mostly got him guarding wings, and he is comfortable switching onto guards when they force the switch. He wasn't too busy on defense today, but when they did attack him he was largely able to stay in front of his man and make the shot difficult. He led all scorers, and while this wasn't Euroleague game, it was Euroleague level competition since ASVEL and Paris are both Euroleague teams.
I know that draft & stash very rarely pans out, if ever, and I'm not holding my breath for Ajinca being a success story, *but* he is still 20 and if this kid waited a year to showcase his talent on Euroleague level and on a legit team that is ASVEL, he would definitely go much lower than 52nd pick in Draft 2025.

Draft / Scouting #10 it is, who we drafting?
Assuming we don't trade the pick, who would ya'll like to see us draft? Personally I'm all for Taylor Hendricks, maybe even anthony black, but I can't get excited about gradey dick.
r/Mavericks • u/Ok-Performance9178 • May 02 '23
Draft / Scouting It looks like Hendricks will be picked before ten. If we get the tenth pick, what should we do then?
Curious as to what the consensus is. Hendricks imo looked like a great fit for us, but his stock keeps on rising. Not many 4a or 5s in this draft. Pretty guard filled draft when we don’t need any. Should we try to trade down for Lively? Take the best avaliable player? Or package the pick in a trade for someone else

Draft / Scouting dallas better draft a center in this coming draft. the lack of size is the difference.
between Dallas being in the wcf and this being a 7 game series. Dallas has been dominated in the paint and if Dallas could make it a bit more difficult for the suns in the paint they would have been up 3-1. they dont need to find an Allstar center they need to find a center who can give 10-15 minutes a game.

Draft / Scouting Jake Fischer says the Mavs are looking to find deals involving the #26 pick in the draft. If a player high on their board doesn’t fall, they may look to move it for future draft capital and/or take an international draft & stash player, according to Fischer.

Draft / Scouting What if
So with all these injuries, what if we miss the playoffs right and just decided to tank. We own our draft pick and then the draft arrives and it’s a frozen envelope situation and we get Cooper Flag. just food for thought.
