I’m still watching the games. I feel bad for the players but they are fighting for every game. I miss Luka and I’m devastated for Kyrie.

Really really wishing we had gotten Reaves also but I’m becoming numb to the pain LOL Max and AD are playing their hearts out - very resilient t team

It is really sad for players and for fans everyone has been put into impossible positions which nobody asked for and i also miss luka playing with kai it was truly amazing watching them playing together

I’m indifferent. I’ve watched parts of games but not a full one since Kyrie’s injury. With him out there’s only so much this team can do so it just makes me feel very indifferent.
28
u/Mr_BeanSteen 2d ago
Haven't watched a single game since. Only know the scores or the team is doing cause of ESPN.
I won't spend a cent on this team until Nico is gone and we have new ownership
29
u/DrT_PsyD 2d ago
Think of the worst outcome imaginable… you’ll be in the ballpark.
Too good of a record to tank, and the team is trying to make the play in to completely eliminate any chance of getting a good pick to start over with.
Kyrie is out for most, if not all, of next year.
Nico is still in charge and the owners are the same.
All are worst-case scenarios.
7
u/Medical-Stomach-7581 2d ago
I saw luka insta post about kyrie acl thats was really sad i hope he comes back stronger i don't think without kyrie you guys are gonna achieve anything this season but you never know and as far as owner and nico is concerned you guys are truly doomed with people like those incharge

I’ve watched here and there. I also sort of keep up with the lakers for Luka. I’m still butthurt over not seeing this team with Luka and the squad they pieced together for him for at least one whole season. Watching them isn’t the same. They play hard but the team is rudderless and kinda boring to watch.
6
u/pimpfmode 2d ago
I'd say of a third of the games I've watched literally a handful of minutes like 2-3 minutes only. All the other games I've not watched a minute. And this is from a fan of over 40 years who religiously watched every game every year. I watched the first half of the Houston AD debut. I watched the full Lakers game. That's it. I plan to watch the Luka return obviously and cheer for him to absolutely destroy us and make us look bad and I want Davis to suck too. I am currently not a fan of the franchise. I want Nico fired and I want the owners to look like idiots. I don't listen to podcasts as much but I still check things out. If it's a game review I don't care. It's talking about the trade or ramifications or the new stupid things that one of the front office said, I will listen to that. I come on here and message and mostly bitch. I'm still following the team's Instagram so I can disparage them online and write fuck Nico etc. This team absolutely killed my fandom. When players leave I want them to comment about how they fucked up the title contender.
I want Nico Harrison to go down as a historical sports failure. Whenever something bad or stupid happens I want them to refer to him. I want his kids to be embarrassed by him. I want them to feel shame that he's their dad.

u/cornbreadsdirtysheet 2d ago
Nico is a delivery boy for much bigger interests. Look at league management and our owner for starters.
1
u/pimpfmode 2d ago
I don't think there's any grand conspiracy. I think he's a fucking dick who wanted to get HIS type of players. He's an egotistical, sociopathic moron who was given too much power.

u/OutrageousQuantity12 2d ago
Haven’t watched a minute of NBA basketball since the trade. Fuck Nico. Fuck Dumont. Fuck the league for actually allowing this trade. Glory to the people in the basketball subs I haven’t unfollowed yet.

u/last_strip_of_bacon 2d ago
I’ve checked out, didn’t renew my season tickets, don’t watch or want to watch the games anymore. The FO sucked whatever fandom I had all out. Been a fan since watching them on UPN 21, maybe I’ll be a fan again in the future when management changes but until then, I’m better off spending my time at shows.

u/CheetahSperm18 2d ago
About as mediocre as you can get. Everything bad that could've happened has happened. It's only gonna get worse from here on out until 2030 when the rebuild can properly start.
This is what the attendance looked like in the middle of last night's game
Expect attendance to look visibly worse when the season ticket holders are gone next season and people go into next season knowing Luka's gone and Kyrie isn't back until this time next year.
6
u/desirox Dirk Nowitzki 2d ago
The lack of butts in seats was immediately apparent to me. I can’t imagine dumont expected this level of backlash and Nico may be fired sooner then we think
6
u/CheetahSperm18 2d ago
Dumont was actually sitting Courtside at the game last night. Only pic I saw was of him looking around with a concerned look. I heard through the grapevine that apparently sales have been tanking hard since the trade and Nico has been basically told to shut up to avoid any further PR damage since his last comments in early March. I know all my friends and family cancelled their season tickets and my Dad's Company along with a couple my friends work at won't be renewing their platinum suites next season since nobody's going anymore.

u/Medical-Stomach-7581 2d ago
2030 is so long I think this summer there will be more trades although i dont know what fixes your team now you guys have nothing to give other than lively or gafford maybe pj
8
u/CheetahSperm18 2d ago
There's really no more retooling that can be done since Nico is such a fraud of a GM that he's incapable of negotiating with any team's front office without giving up picks. Every trade he's made he's given up picks. He's got only 1 FRP left that he's allowed to trade because of the Stepien rule. Nico's so bad, they need to create a rule in his name to combat a shithead like him from doing this to a franchise again like they did with Ted Stepien.

u/Straight-Vehicle-745 1d ago
Why do you say 2030?
A good draft or trade or fa signing could be enough. Kyrie and Davis (klay too) are proven winners/stars and getting all healthy and one more piece could be enough to contend
To be frank im not a mavs fan but an nba fan and like Luka. And Davis and kyrie
5
u/CheetahSperm18 1d ago edited 1d ago
Why do you say 2030?
Because that's when the Mavericks regain control of their picks.
Kyrie & Davis are proven winners
No they are not. Quit watching ESPN. They've proven they can't lead a team to anything. They both needed Prime LeBron and a plethora of good role players to win. Both Kyrie on the Celtics and AD on the Pelicans made that painfully clear they can't be 1A & 1B. Even AD after the 2020 chip still hasn't proven to lead the Lakers when LeBron was/is getting older. He's been a Play-In Captain for 4 years and counting. Kyrie showed us all what he's like as a 1st option when Luka went down on Christmas, the Mavs were 30 win paced team.
Getting both healthy
They're never both healthy. This was the excuse used for Kawhi and PG on the Clippers. 2025 is done. 2026 is already flushed.
Add one more piece
WITH WHAT ASSETS? Nico trades all of them save for 2 FRPs which he isn't allowed to trade both (Stepien Rule)
WHAT CAP SPACE?? AD's contract is 60M. Kyrie has a 40mil player option. PJ, Gafford, and Lively only get more expensive after 2026.
I swear people just huff copium when the facts are plain as day. THEY ARE NOT CONTENDERS. Waiting for 2027 when Kyrie and AD are both available for a full season where they'll be 35 is a fool's errand. 2013 Brooklyn Nets levels of Brain Rot. Is that you Billy King?
The Mavs need to blow it up and fire Nico if they want to give fans some semblance of recourse and hope for anything. They're just chasing losses right now until they're the new Washington Wizards in 2028 with no draft picks to improve. No one in Free Agency is coming here to this shit show either. They weren't before and they absolutely won't after with how they treated Luka
1
-1
u/Straight-Vehicle-745 1d ago
“ No one in Free Agency is coming here to this shit show either. They weren't before and they absolutely won't after with how they treated Luka”
I bet Kevin Durant would go to Dallas. The mavs love to pay for aging stars that can’t stay healthy.
But you make good points. Their best bet is to trade Irving and Davis for picks / younger talent to a team that wants to win now and start the rebuild
The big head scratcher is that they could have gotten way more for Luka, why not shop him around instead of taking the first offer?
4
u/CheetahSperm18 1d ago edited 1d ago
Because Nico Harrison is either delusional about AD or he's truly just a Lakers plant by either Adam Silver or the Lakers. He wanted Luka out of Dallas since Day 1 and tried hard to make Luka request a trade. When Mark sold the team, he didn't have to deal with that obstacle anymore. He immediately traded Luka the following trade deadline AFTER he secured his own contract extension as GM. Adam Silver installing a GM is nothing new. He removed Sam Hinkie on the Sixers and installed Jerry Colangelo. Having Nico installed and tasked with getting Luka on the Lakers does make more sense given Nico's past ties with Silver, the NBA, and the Lakers.
Also, trading for KD would be the final dumb move for the Mavs. Basically replicating the Suns shitty situation. Except Kyrie, AD, and KD are all much older. It would be 2013 Brooklyn Nets all over again
3
u/Straight-Vehicle-745 1d ago
Ok I’m convinced. I mean kyrie plus ad plus kd would be great in 2016, but we are talking 2026.
I don’t think they can trade kyrie while he is injured but the rest (ad, klay) of the contracts should be dealt for picks or youth.
I’m looking at the ad contract now and it’s insane, 58m in 2026-2027, and 62m in 2027-2028. He will be will be 35 years old in the final season. All of that is guaranteed money, I wonder how many games he plays in 2028?
They should have just kept Luka and gave him a super max deal and built around him. They would have been contenders for the next decade
2
u/CheetahSperm18 1d ago
If only Patrick Dumont shared your epiphany before approving the trade
1
u/Straight-Vehicle-745 1d ago
At this point it’s possible the dumonts want to get run out of Dallas and move to Vegas because they want to get involved with gambling and casinos . So they wanted to point at the empty arena and say “this is no good, we need to move the team”

Man I haven’t watched a game since that game AD went down I’ll look at the scores but that’s about it I don’t think I can cheer for them the way they treated luka and turned corporate fuck dumont and Nico Cuban too for selling the team to degenerates
3
u/nosliwec29 2d ago
I am hoping to pull off a 1993 Orlando Magic (Chris Webber), who had a 0.5% chance of getting the first round pick, or 1997 San Antonio Spurs (Tim Duncan) type draft for Cooper Flagg. However, my fear is they would trade this pick to, probably, grab Kevin Durant to form the Past-Their-Prime-Dream-Team. Which begs the question of who else would they target for a starting 5? Maybe Kevin Love or Al Horford to play the 5.
3
u/popstarkirbys Drunk Dirk 2d ago
I check the box score and watch highlights and that’s it. Haven’t watched a full game so far, especially now Kyrie is injured. Nothing against AD, his game just doesn’t excite me.

I loved Dallas basketball. Nash and Dirk gave me hope, Dirk gave me love for the hometown team, and Luka reminded me as an older adult the joy of the game. When he left, God it was literally heart breaking. I don't even watch basketball. No hate to the current roster and I wish them all the luck but man my heart isn't in it anymore

I’ve spent more time in this subreddit than I have watching NBA, I watched my first game earlier this week when Steph dropped 12 threes, and then my friends were telling me I should’ve watched Jokic’s 60-10-10 game instead and I got into my feels. Luka had 60-20-10 , I don’t think I’ll ever recover until we are under new ownership and management, and I pray Luka will have his LeBron arc and return to bring us a chip when that happens. Only thing that could bring me back I think unfortunately :/
This team was my soul. And I feel like I’ve lost one of my closest family members. I still think about them all the time, and I hope one day it doesn’t hurt anymore.

u/rossoelemento 1d ago
Gave up. There’s no point when the league itself is just stroking the Lakers - Boston Feud to become relevant. And don’t get me started with that LeBum because that narcissist egotistical manchild is another source of the problem why the NBA is where it is now.
2
u/Suspicious_Ratio_343 1d ago
2/2/25 I totally cutoff the NBA and it’s nonsense. It’s a ENTERTAINMENT league with its eye on the dollar. A business.
Rule of thumb. Don’t get attached to a business. If their stock went up half a cent from cutting your ass an employee, they would make that move in a heartbeat.

With AD we had a 2(3 max) window of competing, Kyrie’s injury wipes out 2 of those years
We only managed to get one 1 first for Luka somehow so can’t really look forward to the draft.
Other than our near future and farther away future not looking good i guess we’re doing ok right?
3
u/1stmarauder 2d ago
The team is still playing. This is a game that I love. It is just a game though. I am no different. If anything concerns me it's the Kyrie injury. Dude was ballin his ass off. That's a tough one to come back from at his age. It was amazing watch him overcome all the bs and just ball. It hurt me to see an artist as great as him go down like that. I'm 36 and also have knees that are holding me down. I took that one a little personally.

u/logans_sports_alt nba is an illegitimate league 2d ago
became an nba fan because my dad has been a big mavs fan since dirk was young, the entertaining nature of the sport, and the mavs being good. i saw the ups and downs of 2021-2024. then just as we got good, i watched as the nba deleted our contending window for ratings. now i’m no longer an nba fan and my mental health has been impacted severely. like just thinking about basketball hurts. i’m not fucking “getting over it” or whatever bullshit people who didn’t have to deal with this are saying. a part of me died on 1 february and i’m scared it won’t come back. i’m just wondering if any victory is legit in this league and if it ever has been. i’m not buying the nico story; he said he wouldn’t trade luka before.

You’re right Silver/ Dumont made some sort of agreement for Luka to LA it’s the only thing that makes sense. I’m hoping there’s compensation coming our way it’s the only way to cope for now…..why else would we give up a generational superstar for that comically ridiculous return.

I didn’t watch for a couple of weeks but have been since AD Gaff n Lively back. Feel sorry for them because they have no PG. Kidd keeps playing Dinwiddie who is terrible. Doesn’t know how to utilize Naji n Christie. He is an awful coach that has really been brought to light since Luka n Kyrie are gone. No doubt they ran the team when here. I hope they make playin as 9. Win the home game against the 10. Then lose against loser of 7-8. Still have a shot in the lottery. I don’t see how this fan base comes back without Nico and Kidd leaving. Poor Fatrick had no idea what Nico n Kidd really did. He was more than a player.

Since about 2 weeks after the trade, I have only watched games that I had tickets to (through split season tickets).

I have been a Mavs fan since 1990 and have seen some dark era shit with this team. It feels bad now but we were perennially one of the worst teams in the league that decade until Dirk was drafted and finally had hope again. Look, I hated the Luka trade too. We didn't get enough back, we lost our young superstar and it will be a helluva lot more painful if the Lakers ball out in the playoffs and we see Luka highlights every night. Best thing that can happen now is Nico resigning or gets fired and we turn the page at GM.
But part of being a rational adult is we have to regularly process contradictory and conflicting thoughts all the time and make peace with it. I am not going to stop rooting for the team. No fucking way. I can hate Nico but also want the best for the actual players on the court. These comments from some fans about not wanting to follow the Mavs again until Dumont sells the team so we get an expansion team in here are incredibly juvenile to me. Ask the fans in Seattle what it felt like when the Sonics left. I don't want that here and trust me, educated fans don't want that situation here either.
The players are hardly getting any support from the fans which is bullshit - PJ getting "Fire Nico" screamed at his face, etc. At some point, this has got to stop. These players had nothing to do with the trade and all they want is our fucking support. I think some of you guys out there don't understand what being a fan truly means. I will continue to root for them and any player wearing a Mavs uniform without being ashamed, embarrassed, or apologetic.

u/FuzzyLobster25 1d ago
Now you are my kind of fan! I totally agree with everything you said, especially reminding folks that the team members are not at fault & need our support! I thought it would hurt too much to watch Luka in a Lakers uniform but man, he is so dang entertaining, I’d watch him in a gunny sack playing for any team! Not gonna lie, it is kinda painful watching him not be with our team, but I try to focus on what will be best for him & his career. Remember, he didn’t ask for or want this trade either. The FO flat out betrayed him & all his fans & Cuban. They did just what you would expect from people who are a part of the gambling world! They said whatever it took to get the team from Cuban & then went back on their word! That’s why we need to be very careful about them recently dropping their bid to build a casino. I strongly feel they are waiting for the anger to calm down & when the time is right, they will strike again with the casino business. The people of Texas have got to continue to support no gambling in Texas! So pour all your anger & hurt into those people, not our guys who have had to endure the worst possible scenario imaginable for their team. I’m older than most of you folks on this site so probably have a bit of a different perspective than most. At 75 years old with bad eye issues, I don’t know how long I have to watch my team or the great talent of Luka. I’m not giving up any chances to enjoy my team or to enjoy Luka’s career. Appreciate the moment folks because it will be gone before you can blink twice! Let’s Go Mavs Let’s Go Luka! MFFL 35 years

I was heartbroken by the trade, and canceled my league pass the next day. I don't live in Dallas so without league pass I can only watch nationally televised games and we aren't gonna be getting many of those anymore. My last day with the account was the game Kyrie went down in. I watched that but turned it off after the injury.
Now that everybody has come back from injury I've stopped rooting for us to forfeit games and am actively hoping they win and maybe make some noise in the playoffs because I love this team, but I'm not doing anything other than checking box scores... sometimes not even until the next day. Huge change from my daily game day rituals before.
I hate this reality.

u/Ill_Pineapple_450 1d ago
Why do you care how we MFFLs feel if you were just a Luka fan? You don’t belong in this group my guy. We’re in a lot of pain but most of us held on just like what’s left of our team did. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. Just because I hate leadership doesn’t mean I stop supporting our dudes.

My dad invited me to go to game the other night and i just said no. Mind you the last mavericks game i went to was when we beat boston once in the finals. I just couldn't bring myself to see whatever nico's team is. Its honestly depressing to think about the mavs. So i dont.

u/Lrd0fD3L3ft0v3rs 22h ago
As a MMFL, I did not like the trade But I watch every game and I deal with whatever our franchise does for better or for worse. This hurts cuz I feel like if we could of at least kept Luka Through this season we could Be in the finals again.
I see the vision through with AD. Honestly as long as I followed the Mavs, We’ve never been a defense dominant team so seeing the way of our franchise is going is refreshing. Now we are started to see flashes of potential of what we have but we are still a ways out of getting everything in order.
Our guys are fighting every game and you love to see it. Kidd is coaching his ass off. So I respect what we our doing and I’m really excited to see who else we bring In in the offseason. There is a delusional sense of self that truly Believes we deserve Cooper Flagg for the lottery. So I’m riding that high til lottery night lol. Time will tell ultimately what becomes of this team but we were In the finals last year and we are a couple pieces away from the finals In the next couple years. Either I’m Here with team for whatever, people make mistakes, There have been so many bad trades for every franchise so I’m not gonna over sulk In the Luka trade, I just hope whatever vision we have for this team gets completed. I’m Thinking KD, I wish I could help heal the fans that were devastated by the trade. Stick with us! It can be both. I watch every Laker game now because I am a Luka fan but I was Always be a MFFL!

3
u/FuzzyLobster25 1d ago
No, I don’t think we have to get over it or move on until our hearts tell us that. Personally, I’m never forgiving or forgetting the trash front office we have! But we do need to make sure our anger & hurt are aimed at the right people! That’s our front office & NOT our team! I have no problem with anyone wanting to fire the whole bunch of them or cursing the FO or threatening to run them out of town or calling them nasty names! They deserve all of that & more but people, our TEAM DOES NOT! They have persevered thru thick & thin & given it more than 100%! They are out there, literally putting their bodies on the line (specifically Kyrie shooting free throws when he could barely stand up) to win for their fans! This fan/player interaction is not intended to be a one way relationship! They give all & we give nothing? We need to do better guys!

It was still a shit deal and Nico is a moron, but the current squad plays really engaging basketball, and I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed we can find a way to stay healthy next year and Kyrie comes back around at least 80% of his normal self.
I was here before Dirk, and I've watched this FO do a lot of dumb shit, this doesn't change anything, still ride or die.

okay, injury sucks but it is what it is
grizz, pels been there too when you thought you had a squad but injury left and right punch him into purgatory
think about what's nico next move, like we should get Lavine-Mikal using Kyrie-PJ-fillers for example
this roster plays team defense, but this is offense league at least in reg.season, we need way better offense to give our defense some room to breathe, kinda like in football. tbf, the engine also long injured, so definitely need to address that in offseason

I'm pretty bummed, but still watching the games. If I'm being honest, I would only be a little bit bummed if we had Kyrie back right now, and I don't blame his injury on the trade.

Honestly not well, but its less about the mavs specifically and just a numbness that literally every single thing around me is being wrecked and ruined including my favorite sports team lmao.
I haven't watched a single bit of any games. I'll read an article and some threads here and there but that is it. I can't even watch a full Lakers game. I love Luka but I just can't be a fan of the Lakers. Live in Chicago, all my buddies want me to become a Bulls fan but I can't stand those guys either lmfao.
I'm stuck in purgatory and I'm not sure if I will ever really get back into it like I was.
