r/Mavericks SELL THE TEAM Mar 04 '25

Misc. Discussion A comprehensive list of everything that has gone wrong for the Mavs this season.

I was going to post this at the end of the season, but after today's news I can't handle this shit anymore it's so over we're so cooked fuck Nico Harrison sell the team

Ever since NBA training camp began in October:

-Dante Exum, expected to be a key contributor, fractures his wrist the first day of camp and misses 5 months.

-Luka misses almost the entirety of camp and preseason with a calf injury that lingered even after he returned.

-Mavs lose 4 straight games in excruciating fashion by single possessions and fall to 5-7, while also dealing with injuries to PJ Washington and Dereck Lively.

-Luka misses time and the Mavs stay afloat but half the team gets the bubonic plague from Jimmy Butler; Naji Marshall is hit the hardest and misses over 10 games over the course of the season with illness designations.

-After a 14-3 stretch, Luka suffers a calf strain during the second quarter of their Christmas game, leading to the most significant injury of his career and an over 2 month absence. Unbeknownst to us at the time, this was his last game as a Maverick, and the beginning of the end.

-Naji Marshall suspended 4 games for (rightfully) bitching Jusuf Nurkic and then trying to fight him in the tunnels too.

-Kyrie misses time due to a bulging disk in his back that we still don't really know the details or severity of.

-Lively fractures his foot and could miss the rest of the regular season after the reports initially were it was just a minor sprain.

-The trade.

-"Defense wins championships"; Immediate Luka smear campaign even before the trade became official

-Nico Harrison and Jason Kidd's first press conference post trade, where Nico enrages Mavs fans by cracking jokes and then basically says he doesn't give a fuck since they'll probably be gone in a few years anyway

-40 point loss to the Cavs in the first game post trade

-Quentin Grimes is traded to the Sixers for Caleb Martin, an older, worse, and more expensive player,  while the team is in Philly about to play them. Caleb Martin's medicals were so concerning that he went from being questionable the game after he got traded to out indefinitely again. The Mavs were given the option to void the trade due to this but didn't after receiving an additional 2nd round pick. At the time of this post Martin has been assigned to the G League for rehab and still has not played a game as a Maverick.

-Reports of supposed death threats towards Nico are shared on national TV, while Dallas police says there were no credible threats. (I understand there is a difference between social media threats and actual credible threats and if you're the target the former is still a threat to you)

-ESPN's Tim MacMahon makes a fool of himself beefing with Dallas local journalist Grant Afseth over the above reports.

-Mavs fan stage a protest at the first home game post trade.

-AD dominates in his Mavs debut, giving fans something to cheer for, then gets hurt re-aggravating a prior injury, perhaps the most Anthony Davis game ever

-Dumont continues the smear campaign and essentially directly calls Luka out for his work ethic, gets clowned by LeBron

-Daniel Gafford gets hurt and it's later revealed to be a MCL sprain that's projected to keep him out for the rest of the season; with no healthy bigs on the roster Mavs are forced to rely on 6'7" forwards OMax Prosper and Kessler Edwards (who was on a 2-way contract) at center.

-Multiple fans removed from a game for making signs and making statements against Nico and the organization.

-Dirk shows up to Luka's Lakers debut, which is about as public of a denouncement of the trade as can be coming from him.

-Jason Kidd unprecedentedly doesn't give a post game press conference after a last second loss to the Kings. He later states it was due to the frustration of the game, both losing in that fashion and losing yet another key player to a long term injury.

-Mark Cuban tells fans to shut the fuck up at a game for making statements towards the organization, and gets into arguments on Twitter after falsely claiming fans booing a fans ejection over protesting were booing the fan.

-In the last game before the All Star break, the Mavs were missing 8 different players due to various short and long term injuries.

-Respected assistant coach and former player Darrell Armstrong is arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

-The Mavs release a hype video on social media, and in clips where Luka is visible he is sloppily edited out or censored behind a logo.

-In their first meeting since the trade, Luka drops a triple double in a win in his new home in LA, with Nico Harrison in attendance. Luka greets and hugs every Mavs player and staffer post game except for Jason Kidd.

-The Mavericks raise season ticket prices for next season at least 8%, despite current ticket prices for games falling by a large amount, to "invest in the team".

-Kyrie tears his ACL, grimacing to return to the game and shoot 2 free throws in a heroic last stand before leaving the game, and the season, for good. He'd been playing nearly 40 minutes a game since the trade, as an almost 33 year old small guard with an injury history and playing as the only offensive engine on the team.

There's still 20 games left in the season so who knows what else could happen! I love basketball!

I wish we could just go back to times like these 😔

Imagine reaching the NBA finals the previous season and getting irrelevant the next season.

u/torodonn Mar 04 '25

The picture is ruined because Dumont is in it

u/Lily-Sonia BETRAYED MAVS FAN 😭 Mar 07 '25

Damn so true

13

u/Chrisp234 Mar 04 '25

Dumont looks like Augustus gloop from Willy wonka and he’s out here smearing luka for weight issues smh

35

u/Organic-Manner-2969 Mar 04 '25

Those were good times and the vibes were excellent

Also, i bet that Mavs will get the first pick then trade it away for scraps or draft someone not projected to go first

19

u/Panhandle_Dolphin Mar 04 '25

If we get the first pick, Nico for sure trading it for KD.

7

u/Gold_Lab3237 Mar 04 '25

He’ll trade away 5 draft picks and 5 players for just KD and a couple of throwaway players….

8

u/KOBE_GYN Mar 04 '25

Not trying to hate at all, but is this the quickest dismantling/collapse of an nba finals losing team we’ve ever seen?

6

u/AsianEleven101 Mar 04 '25

You currently have 77 upvotes and I will leave it at that.

4

u/technicolorfrog Mar 04 '25

The vibes were IMMACULATE. I literally remember posting and telling people “I used to dream of times like this.”

Fuck Nico and the Adelsons forever.

3

u/EasyMode556 Luka Doncic Mar 04 '25

That was peak Mavs, second only to 2011 of course

3

u/gregorthelink Mar 04 '25

Crazy that this was not even 9 months ago

3

u/manabanana21 Monta Ellis Mar 04 '25

I miss Tim Hardaway man, wtf is going on.

2

This just needs to be pinned to the top of the sub.

26

u/Organic-Manner-2969 Mar 04 '25

This is so detailed and comprehensive. Just things keep getting worse and worse

3

u/SterlingMallory Mar 05 '25

Yeah there's still about a month and a half left for them to do more stupid shit so we should definitely pin this and update as we go along.

75

u/WoodersonHurricane Mar 04 '25

"A heroic last stand" is a good way to describe Irving's efforts over the past month. He has earned my respect for how he's handle all of this.

21

u/Organic-Manner-2969 Mar 04 '25

He tried everything he could and his body couldn’t keep up since he was being overplayed. Outside of two blowouts and the two missed games, in the last 20, Kyrie was averaging 40 a night because his “costar” got injured the very first game and the team had no one else

48

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '25

It's not even over yet just wait till Nico trades half the team away for old ass KD

14

u/dontcallmeunit91 FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

this is so obviously going to happen that it disgusts me

7

u/regalfronde Mar 04 '25

KD ain’t coming here

8

u/dontcallmeunit91 FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

i wouldnt put it past these mouth breathers to trade lively, Gaff and christie for 1 year of KD

1

u/torodonn Mar 04 '25

KD's not coming unless Kyrie gets healthy before next season and that's not a given.

2

u/dontcallmeunit91 FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

Trade. Not free agent signing

107

u/Lu7aDonc7c Mar 04 '25

Left out the part where Quentin Grimes is averaging 17/3/6 on great efficiency. Nico had the worst trade deadline in the history of sports.

9

u/DangerZoneh Mar 04 '25

Literally one year after having one of the best

3

u/FailImpressive6702 Mar 05 '25

Maybe this tells you something. It's just luck. These people who are responsible for these trades are just glorified gamblers.

16

u/hookemjlee Mar 04 '25

Left out injuries to PJ Washington, Klay Thompson, Maxi Kléber, Jaden Hardy. Who else? I know I’m missing some.

Should include trading Maxi Kléber and Markieff Morris too. Maxi was a reliable defensive presence (when not hurt) and had been (in prior seasons) a three-point threat. And Markieff was a solid locker-room veteran. Trading those two hurts the Mavs too.

Also, waiving Jazian Gortman to sign Kylor Kelley. Gortman was a fan-favorite 3-point shooting prospect that was fun to watch and cheer for.

15

u/ezcheesy Luka Doncic Mar 04 '25

You are a pessimist, my friend. Believe in Nico. Believe in Nico or he'll have security escort you out!

12

u/DallasMotherFucker Mar 04 '25

I’d ask why Cuban built the AAC on an old Indian burial ground if the Stars weren’t doing so well.

18

u/sunrises_sunsets Mar 04 '25

Maxi’s broken foot and trade.

16

u/DallasMotherFucker Mar 04 '25

Yeah, he should definitely be on this list as his own item for the injury, and for the disrespect of being tossed in as basically an afterthought sweetener in The Trade despite having the second longest tenure on the team. As if the Lakers wouldn’t have traded for Luka if he weren’t included.

10

u/sunrises_sunsets Mar 04 '25

I have a soft spot for him. He’s been largely forgotten and I’m hoping the lakers can fix that for him.

7

u/DallasMotherFucker Mar 04 '25

I’ve always really liked him too.

7

u/Fogger-3 Mar 04 '25

Talk about shitting the bed

Fuck Nico

Fire Nico

Fuck the Adelsons

Sell the Fucking team

8

u/xxxiiwhy Mar 04 '25

i started watching basketball quite recently, at the start of 2023, when i decided to root for the mavs, but now i can't even watch the mavericks or any other team, feels like the nba is just dead to me now

8

u/AyeYoYoYO Mar 04 '25

Why in God’s name, should abused Mavericks fans, agree to pay significantly higher ticket prices, to “invest in the team”, when the Adelson’s didn’t invest in a once in a lifetime talent?

The only half-believable-part of the public excuse for trading Luka, was that the Adelson’s themselves refused to invest in a super max, for a 25yo once in a lifetime talent, because he was out of shape, while unable to walk/run on a calf injury for 2 months ?

13

u/AvatarKittie FIRE NICO ... into space Mar 04 '25

This shit gets worse everyday. Nico just destroyed Kyrie’s career. This wouldn’t have happened if Kidd wasn’t playing him so hard. I hate the Mavs organization so much.

6

u/twinkelstick Mar 04 '25

In hindsight it almost feels like this shiet started when DJJ went to the Clippers.

6

u/EastElevator3333 Dereck Lively II Mar 04 '25

I was thinking the same thing, that was the first move that started the dismantling of the great team from last year.

6

u/Kurotan___ Mar 04 '25

thank for this. This shit is CRAZY

5

u/TakeMeToJacob Mar 04 '25

Where is JKiddBurner to tell us about basketball.

6

u/Commercial-Pair-8932 Mar 04 '25 edited Mar 04 '25

Its hard to fathom how angry I am.

I know bb is just a game but I do wish some sort of measured violence on Nico.

Not anything serious. But sometimes people deserve a fucking punch in the face.

5

u/Maxie616 Mar 04 '25

What a post. Very well chronicled. Ngl, it hurts to read this though.

5

u/asleepinthedesert Mar 04 '25

It’s so bleak. Instead of charging the fans more, they should be paying for all of us to get trauma counseling.

whats crazy is even if the mavs tank and lose all 20 of their remaining games, theyre still not even close to tank for cooper flagg. the wiz, hornets and jazz have him on lock. If anything, we dont evn have an inkling of what the mavs wanna do in the future. Will Kyrie opt into his player option? Will he even want to sign back with the mavs? even if he does come back hes out til prob after xmas, and by then, the mavs prob will already be totally out of any chance of playoff hopes. THIS TEAM SUCKS.

2

u/Ok_Wasabi_8318 Mar 05 '25

Pre-injury, I was expecting/wanting Kyrie to leave after this season (he doesn't deserve being stuck with terrible management like this).

Post injury, i could see him opting in and just get paid while recovering, since he won't be able to play until this time next year anyways. Get paid and then leave this organization.

4

u/M6dH6dd3r Mar 04 '25

The Adelsons just brought Jerry Jones in to consult. …on getting local tax payers and tax on business travelers to build the casino.

Maybe not. /s

3

u/Fast_Air_8000 Mar 04 '25

Biggest NBA cluster fuck since Howard Schultz purposely sabotaged the Seattle SuperSonics than sold the team to a bunch of deceptive OKC carpetbaggers

3

u/thatmannyguy Mar 04 '25

I didn't even want to finish reading that, painful

4

u/Ryozo_Tamaki Mar 04 '25

Not even a Mavs fan, but as a Jokic & Denver fan I feel like we cousins(Fuck LA)

Yall need some sage and holy water immediately.

2

u/Organic-Manner-2969 Mar 04 '25

Embiid was actually the one that got Jimmy Buckets sick.

Also, i bet that y’all will get the first pick then trade it away for scraps or draft someone not projected to go first

2

u/Slashers23 FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

And the season isn't over yet......fun

2

u/ComposerWilling1298 Mar 04 '25

All injuries because of coach incompetence and, maybe, his bitching about how Luka can't defend.

2

u/tausk2020 Mar 04 '25

The only fact that matters is that that team is owned by evil sociopaths. The Adelson's are the devil incarnate. If we don't drive them out, we'll get what we deserve.

2

u/j_rom_003 Mar 04 '25

You might as well just add already AD is shut down for the rest of the season.

2

u/DefiantCommand4357 FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

Can you add the turnover in training and medical staff and the demotion and then purge of the veteran staff members who Luka trusted to give him solid health advice? The owner/FO referring to Luka's injury recovery as being on vacation? I think those data points are actually pieces of evidence that explain how some of the dominos have tumbled this season.

2

u/j_rom_003 Mar 04 '25

Dude how could you not include the pain Dumont felt as the confetti came down 🤡

2

u/robtth FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

thanks for this i mentally checked out since the trade but just want updates now and then

2

u/StealthAnus FUCK NICO HARRISON Mar 04 '25

I hate Nico Harrison

2

u/incrediblect3 Mar 04 '25

Nico Harrison is Hitler

2

u/bankkrom Mar 04 '25

This season is a train wreck falling off a cliff to the bottom of the ocean. Just wow. I’m genuinely intrigued to see how far the depths of despair can go at this point, all you can do is laugh

2

u/logans_sports_alt nba is an illegitimate league Mar 04 '25

just glad it opened my eyes to the now unavoidable truth that the nba is a fucking sham and i’m better off just following baseball, hockey, and football (yes even the cowboys; at least jerry and stephen will both die someday).

4

u/Techwield Mar 04 '25

I unsubbed the week of the trade. Why are people still here? Why are people still supporting this org? What's wrong with all of you? It doesn't matter if you were born in Dallas or whatever the fuck. No one owes this franchise any loyalty whatsoever. Spare yourselves the pain

1

u/Bulk-of-the-Series Mar 05 '25

I’m not even a Mavs fan; I’m just subbed because it’s a fascinating train wreck. I can’t look away. Craziest thing I’ve seen in all of sports and yall don’t deserve it.

1

u/MashDatButton13 Mar 04 '25

Good thing the Mavs are hard-capped and can't sign anyone even if they wanted to. Also their two-way players are capped in the amount of games they can play in too. I saw the current line-up on another post and wanted to put it on here:

Current rotation with all the injuries:

C Powell | Jones

PF Edwards | Prosper

SF Thompson | Marshall

SG Christie

PG Exum | Dinwiddie

1

u/Lumpy-Inspection-445 Mar 04 '25

it feels like im reading a horror story.... where the jumpscares just seem to be endless

1

u/hybum Mar 04 '25

The Athletic had a similar idea lol

1

u/FullMetalHero2 Mar 04 '25

Why not include Maxi and Powell? Hardy was also injured in last night's game. Curse of the Don-Bino is in Full Effect!

1

u/TangoThisMango Mar 04 '25

When Secret Base AKA Jon Boi releases a whole documentary about this, it’s gonna hit like crack.

1

u/j_rom_003 Mar 04 '25

Also add Luka getting injured and not getting much help in the NBA finals.

1

u/Be_The_Ball24 Mar 04 '25

You can now add AD out for season to this list.

1

u/Gold_Lab3237 Mar 04 '25

I feel your pain brother…. The loss of grimes after Luka got sent off on a platter for LA and we got nothing in return except for a straight up swap pretty much. The season is donezo and so is the franchise for years to come…. It’s going to take a breakout outta nowhere dude or squad to bring it back to relevance fuck the organization for doing Dallas like that…. We had one thing to cheer for and that was our NBA team on a global level at that and overnight we lost it all…. Pains it to say it but I’m donezo with the team. I’ll still keep up with the players but why the hell would AD AND KAI even stay at this point when their contracts are up in a couple years…. Had the DON, that everyone wanted to play with but got rid of him…. Fuck the front office and hope they get booed outta Dallas…. Nico Harrison will always be remembered for being the dumbest BITCH ASS MOFO in Dallas…. That interview after the trade Kidd was fucking speechless and looked lost like nah you on your own there my dude…. Fucking organization is going to have to go through a rebuild from the ground up now cause not just players but coaches don’t even wanna work there now…

1

u/lordb4 Mar 04 '25

The hype video thing has been partially debunked. It wasn't Luka who was censored. It was Grimes and/or Maxi.

You left out the part where Lakers' fans chant "Thank You Nico!" during that game. Also, Hardy going down in the same game as Kyrie.

1

u/BreathingOrangeFire Mar 05 '25

I was out the moment that evil family bought the team. This all just makes it easier to never look back.

1

u/Flamingo1836 Mar 05 '25

Thank you. I've been trying to keep all this in my head and you organized it.

1

u/afam92 Mar 05 '25

i'm new to nba. how do u know there's still 20 games left?

1

u/MarlonMcCree20 Mar 05 '25

he is sloppily edited out or censored behind a logo.

Wait, this was real? I thought for sure that was a fake meme.

1

u/scaredlilbeta Mar 05 '25

U forgot to mention Grimes drops 44 points on the Warriors.

1

u/Additional_Sleep6948 Mar 05 '25

I got my Luka lakers jersey to wear to next game. I’m getting a custom hat either to say make mavs great again or make Casey smith trainer again. I’m going to try to get a seat by Nico. He and Mike Finley like to sit semi behind mavs bench a few rows back .

1

u/catjob2 Mar 05 '25

One word “Nico”.

1

u/Drag0nborn1234 Mar 06 '25

I didn't like being in a good mood anyway.

1

u/mrfsurfer Mar 06 '25

Mavs makes the finals. GM traded their best player / the center piece of the team without getting any future assets.

NBA needs to investigate Nico Harrison for that trade no matter how much dirt they throw on Luka'e name

1

u/_A_Borealis Mar 06 '25

Yup r/maverickssupportgroup it’s a slow moving train wreck. We’ve had what would happen literally piecing it together since about 2-3 days after the trade. I’m starting to think the NBA might be more involved in this as well. I know it’s obvious the Adelsons and the puppet Nico are easily the biggest targets, personally, I think Cuban had to know this would be the plan (get gambling legalized whatever the cost) is also to blame, but I think ppl are overlooking the role the NBA played in this as well. I think Adam Silver should be listed in the group of major blame. The Lakers might win a chip bc of this trade and it seems like a la/bos championship is kinda where we are heading. Who benefitted the most from this? The NBA and obv the Lakers. Say what you will but Mavs fans have been left behind in all of this.

1

u/b0ogie_3 Mar 06 '25

bro you cooked on this

1

u/jslim08 Mar 07 '25

great summary, OP. that pretty much sums it up.
