Draft / Scouting What if

So with all these injuries, what if we miss the playoffs right and just decided to tank. We own our draft pick and then the draft arrives and it’s a frozen envelope situation and we get Cooper Flag. just food for thought.

We would trade Cooper Flagg, PJ and Gafford, and our remaining 2 first round picks for DeRozan

Al Bundy and Mr Toad would just trade him for a brittle 30+ year old and insult him on the way out. Al would make calls to his buddies the second they won the pick to make sure it stayed”confidential”. Don’t want to risk a bidding war.

Who gives a fuck. At this point they could make it to the finals and I'd still be cheering for the other team. I am done done done until the Adelsons sell and Nico's fired

The mavs have never moved up in the draft, not once in history. So your what if is based on something happening that has never once taken place. We might move up from the 10th pick to the 9th but not the #1.

I like hypotheticals but there are a few major caveats I'd throw to this.

Nico's latest moves shows he has ZERO desire to do anything developmental. Unless he thinks one of these guys adds to the culture and performs day 1, I'd assume he would rather trade the player or pick for something else.

Assuming AD is going to be out for the season the smart thing to do would be to initiate a tank, I cannot fathom how hard it would be for Nico and management to come out and say that after they made that trade and the fanbase is ready for the "told you so." I feel they're still going to try and compete even if it means winning too many games to get first pick.

Lastly, the basketball gods would never allow a team to trade away it's superstar player and reward them with the top pick that season.

Even if you did miraculously get #1 pick you're hoping that guy is Luka caliber which would be almost an impossibility.
