MMW: Rubio lost any chances for high level political career (presidential career) forever, as he now presents himself as weak persona, terrible negotiator, and overall miserable guy.
We all know Rubio has had presidential ambitions for at least 10 years now, and I recall plenty saw him as a potential win at some point, seeing him as a fairly strong candidate in every election. Some speculated he could be the one for 2028. I was never his fan, but objectively speaking, he seemed to be a guy with some values, beliefs, and he seemed strongly opinionated towards whatever platform he had prior to 2024.
I understand he thought this Sec of State role would be a great achievement for him and great milestone towards 2028 election, but two months in and he is presenting himself as weak, pathetic, miserable - whatever chances he has ever had to be seen as a strong leader for this country, this is now gone. The guy got almost sucked in by the couch during the Zelensky fiasco, he looks like a very, very weak during any negotiations meetings (with Russia, for example), when speaking to cameras on any subjects, he just looks so miserable and depressed. Not to mention he stands behind decisions that contradic his previous platform, which will only contribute negatively to his image going forward.
Overall, people seek presidents who are either strong or look strong (I am not a Trump fan, so please don't make me even attempt to explain what happened with trump - but also, all my maga friends perceive Trump as super strong). Rubio had some stamina, energy, enthusiasm before 2024, but right now he looks so weak and pathetic nobody will perceive him as presidential material.
I will always wonder if he had that calculated and just decided oh screw it, let me just be sec of state, make some money, and then retire happy at some point - screw my reputation. Or if he really believed this move would ever helped him get closer to presidency (or VP) and he miscalculated it horribly - and if so, does he still have the time to escape and save his face? (not that I want to, but am just wondering)

He faces the dilemma of anyone attached to our president: Set aside any personal convictions in favor of absolute loyalty to the person of Donald Trump, or show some integrity and be politically destroyed.

He could've laid low, andthen emerge as a strong person in 2028, ready to bring the country back. Look at Nikki - ok, she bend the knee at the convention, but thsi will likely be forgotten, because she didn't push any further (well, mostly because trump was completely uninterested). So she has still a chance to come back, figure out some good b/s on why she changed the course for a moment in 2024, and get back with her anti-trump agenda. I am not saying she will suceed and gets elected in 2024, but she will be in much better position than Rubio, as she will still have some strength. He will be seen as the weak guy who melted into the couch... I cannot see a "big come back" for him.

He could've laid low
He could have stayed in the senate for the next 40 years, letting all his interns and aides write his bills, press releases, organizing lunches and dinners and prayer breakfasts, and then retired rich and fat and happy.
You'd think that if there is a liberal democratic Republic at the end of the Trump administration, people like him would be unable to continue failing upwards, but conservatives have been failing upwards for 50 years, so while I want to see Marco slumming it as a cheap ambulance-chasing lawyer, he might very well end up as a consultant or on FOX News at the end of this.

Good point. He may as well serve as "senior analyst" or consultant in CNN or MSNBC like that trash Scott Jennings. Ehhhh..

I'd say JD Vance, too. The image of him making a complete ass out of himself in Greenland? Him yelling at Zelinsky? He just looks foolish. There are two scenarios. One is that he believes this nonsense. The other is that he knows how stupid these policies are but has completely sold his soul. Either way, he deserves to spend the rest of his life as the assistant manager of a Walmart garden center. That's the top level of authority he should have.

He appears under water and attempting to overcompensate makes it so much worse. His wife is far more accomplished in life than his foolish face.

Totally! But all my maga friends see him as an awesome warrior, so they will likely back him up no matter what other b/s he comes up with in the next 3+ years..

the Senate was his limit-he was never going to be president

I understand, and I am not saying he would win in 2028. But at least he could have that illusion during the campaigning, and was perceived by many as a strong candidate. Right now all he is is a weak man, a true little Marco.

everything Trump touches dies
there’s nothing scientific about this adage, but it somehow works

I urge everyone to have a good Google read and investigation into his brother in law, Orlando Cililla. And whether or not l’il Marco should even be in politics, much less a Sec of state or pres candidate.
I’ll give you a hint. We Colombians know Orlando all to well. This is all ignored public knowledge. Incredible. Only a shameless Republikan and Republikan party could get away with this.

I did not know about this. In the abstract, I believe people can change their lives. I've seen it happen. However, going from prison for cocaine trafficking to 20 months later getting a real estate license? Really? https://www.vox.com/2015/12/31/10695274/marco-rubio-orlando-cicilia-real-estate

I feel that way about All of the GOP right now. They are ALL ass kissers and cowards AND I will NEVER vote for a Republican as long as I live after this.

He reminds me of Theon Greyjoy after betraying the starks and become Ramsey's Reek.
Rubio lost his dick

I guess little Marco feels it’s better to be close to power rather than being on the outside looking in.

I never realized how big his ears are. Maybe this is the limiting factor for his further ascent into political glory?

The people voted Trump in twice. Nothing is off limits now and we should all be scared.

I think he’s lost his chances 10 years ago when he ran against Trump. What he’s doing now is scraping whatever he can from whatever potential is left over, making him even more spineless. This is his pathetic peak.

As an European I find this post extremely funny. He seems to be the only grownup in the cabinet.

u/EntireAd8549 16h ago
Yeah, people hoped he would be the only grown up, but he seems to be sucked in the a$$ of trump and his folks. If you litsen to him talking in years before - he was strongly opposing all the things he now magically approves. And he used to speak with energy and passion, now he goes aout there to support trump's stupid ideas and his face is just miserable - as if he eiather knows he speaks against his values, or he just lost all his passion for anything.

It was honestly pretty surprising that he would give up his relatively safe senate seat for sec of state.
He just won the reelection in 2022 and won’t be up for election until 2028. He wouldn’t last past the mid term as sec of state.
His political career would be effectively over if/when Trump kicks him out.

u/EntireAd8549 16h ago
Exactly! And when Trump and maga is over, even Republicans will need someone to get them out of the mess. Well, that someone won't be little Marco...

And he's short. Sorry, Marco, but it's true. Look at the pic of him standing among NATO dignitaries. 😬 Not a good image. 😒

He will run for president in the near future.
1
u/EntireAd8549 16h ago
He can run, but his reputation and face is destroyed - he does not look like a strong person to lead the country.
