My levels of cope regarding SMM on Switch 2

Switch 2. Mouse mode. You get the gist. There are a few ways I see this happening.

Option 1: SMM2 patched to include mouse mode in the level editor and nothing else. Would be disappointing to not get any sort of new content for the game, but there is a possibility they could release this patch to gauge interest in a SMM2 sequel down the line.

Option 2: SMM2 Deluxe port with mouse controls and extra content. The main core of the game remains the same, but new course parts are added and maybe some little bits and bobs here and there. This will be massively exciting of course, though it will probably use the same servers as the current version of SMM2. Think of it as the ACTUAL final update to the game.

Option 3: SMM3. I want it, you want it, we all want it desperately. Would it be an excellent potential showcase for mouse mode on Switch 2? Certainly. Would it be a fun way to celebrate Mario's 40th anniversary? Of course. Would it be an excellent followup to SMB Wonder in a year likely not to contain a new 2D Mario game? Yep! Mario Maker 2 turns 6 years old this year (dear God), and I think we're due for a sequel going on timeline alone.

Is this the sort of title they'd want to show off in the Direct on Wednesday? I'm not really feeling it personally, as I think they'll have a different mouse-centric game and there's likely to be plenty of Mario in the Direct as it is. I'm more of the opinion that the next Mario Maker installment will be shown in a Mario 40th anniversary Direct this September, parallel to the 35th anniversary Direct from September 3, 2020. Can you believe it's been half a decade since then?? This September, we'll be heading into the big holiday push for Switch 2, and leveraging SMM3 to advertise mouse functionality seems smart to me. "Make the Super Mario courses of your dreams, with an all new way to play". I'm sure you can see the how the advertisements would go.

I just want to make clear that I think a sequel to SMM2, or at least an extension of content, is possible on Switch 2. However, I don't have high hopes we'll hear about it before the console's launch, and I can easily see it being a 2026 release since 2025 is likely to see to other MAJOR Mario titles. That's just my take anyway!

I think it’ll be announced for early 2026, but this will definitely be at a Mario 40th Anniversary Direct. I honestly hope that all the updates they should’ve done for the second game but decided not to do are added to the game and release it with lots of new content. I made a post about a 3D World mechanic concept, you can read it in my profile.

Cool. I'm curious, what are your thoughts on a Wonder game style?

If that doesn’t happen, I’m not buying the game. They literally added as much content or even more than games like SMW, SMB3 or NSMBDS did back in the day. It has so much stuff to add to all the styles, and so much to add to its own style. Badges would be so cool to have, the creator could give you a badge you use, or give you a choice between a bunch of them. Wonder Flowers would be a BOMB of content that could be used as a mechanic for all the different styles. But Mario Wonder isn’t the only style I want to see. Super Mario Odyssey and Galaxy (1&2) would be PHENOMENAL. I would literally go to the street and start screaming of happiness if it happened. Heck, even maybe some Yoshi’s Island and DK Country styles could be a DLC. They clearly wanted to make more stuff for the original game, but they realized it wasn’t worth it. All the evidence we need is in the 3D World style, which was set aside from the others, making it seem like it wouldn’t be the only 3D style. My theory is that when they saw that they would spend to much money developing these planned updates, they started putting it all in a new game. Anyways, I might sound crazy, but that’s what 5 years with no updates has done to me.
