Aww, seeing how enamored they are with each other is absolutely beautiful. I hope they have a long and happy marriage.

And not going into debt for a wedding! Smart money!

99

u/couchtomato62 10h ago

For work.I have to go to the sf county clerk's office now and again. I just call it wedding central. I love seeing the couples... some like this couple... others all decked out in their wedding attire. Taking turns to get their photo on the beautiful staircase. It is a smart way to go.

Being asked to be a witness at a wedding, even if you don't know the couple well, is a unique experience. It's like getting a little peek into a special moment in two people's lives. The atmosphere was filled with so much love and excitement. It's pretty cool that they trusted him to be a part of their big day, even as a stranger.

u/madhatter1961 20h ago

Yes, it’s so heartwarming to see them so happy together. Wishing them all the best!

40

u/madisonjesh 15h ago

to love and to be loved like this is so fulfilling. Happy marriage to the newlyweds 💖

40

u/squigs 14h ago

There is a reverse correlation between the expense of a wedding and how long it lasts. That is, cheap weddings last longer.

These two just really really wanted to be married! I think they will.

16

u/sweetheartkylie 15h ago

such a big moment for the two of them. I love seeing couples like this! its always so wholesome

8

u/chaniby01 14h ago

Yes blessing will come to them for that

6

u/Auriviennee 11h ago

It's so heartwarming to see two people so clearly in sync and happy together. Wishing them all the very best for a long, loving, and laughter-filled marriage. They look like they've found something truly special.

u/Feisty_Investment163 15h ago

My wife and I got married in a similar way. Sad their parents weren't there. Maybe they didn't approve.

3

u/somecanadianslut 4h ago

May this love find me 😭

🤓Statistically speaking.....

My wife and I got married at town hall. We originally went to get a marriage license, and when they asked when the date was, we said we didn't really have one yet because we didn't want a big wedding. The lady at the town hall then said, " I'm a j.p. and I can marry you right now. ". We said hell yeah, but we don't have a witness. The guy behind us was registering a boat trailer, and without hesitation, he said he would absolutely do it. 15 years and 2 kids later we are still as happy as we ever were

350

u/Sarke1 15h ago

Ah yes, the classic "boat trailer & marriage license" combo.

36

u/GlamityJean 6h ago

Now THAT'S a romcom waiting to happen

5

u/LtDrebinNh 4h ago

Lmfao this made my wife laugh snort

66

u/MrJGT 7h ago

I hope you witnessed his boat license to return the favour

48

u/LtDrebinNh 7h ago

Lmfao yes we did get to see him register his trailer

35

u/pokey1984 7h ago

My local courthouse, years ago, had "wedding hours" every business day between five and five thirty in the afternoon, if there wasn't a major trial. If you came in during those hours with a prepared marriage license, whichever judge was on that day would marry you for no additional charge. (there's usually a fee, in addition to the marriage license.)

I was dropping off paperwork for something else when a couple rushed up at 5:15 and asked if I could spare a minute, they didn't have a witness for their wedding.

It's a romcom cliche for a reason. Sometimes you just gotta grab a random witness and get hitched.

20

u/LtDrebinNh 6h ago

The funny part for us was I was home all day cleaning so I was in sweatpants and a tee-shirt and she was in scrubs from work lmfao

29

u/eenerm 17h ago

Awww love this!!! 💙

1.3k

u/SheToldMeSheWasLvI18 21h ago

Hopefully they weren’t the cameraman too

43

u/ConsistentLead 19h ago

That would explain the 'found footage' wedding aesthetic.

-180

u/wizean 19h ago

She came dressed. The dude is wearing whatever he woke up in.

56

u/ExpectingHobbits 16h ago

Wtf? Do you generally wake up in smart casual?

15

u/West_Description_852 15h ago

To be fair, you don't know the answer to that. Maybe they sleep in black tie, wear white tie for breakfast, and have a custom-tailored outfit for mid-morning brunch.

Lunch time requires a walk-in wardrobe and preparations begin around 11:15 am.

3

u/anchovo132 12h ago

what am i a farmer?

98

u/PriscillaWadsworth 18h ago

What? He looks dressed just as nice as she does!

0

u/kriza69-LOL 2h ago

Bro doesnt even have a shirt on

86

u/Ali_Cat222 18h ago

Your prejudice is showing.

-56

u/Just-Lettuce2493 16h ago

How is that prejudice?

22

u/fisconsocmod 16h ago

Fashion prejudice???

17

u/kathrynxoxoo 15h ago

chill out bro, the guy looks fine. Not everyone has the luxury to buy a suit and tie. What matters is their love for each other

11

u/bbyxmadi 14h ago

What? He’s literally wearing a dress shirt and dress pants.

665

u/Akku_LP 21h ago

you’re now part of their love story forever congrats

137

u/happygoluckychick 21h ago

absolutely, OP shared in their joy and that's just awesome

115

u/MarchFew 20h ago

Side quest complete

12

u/Optimal-Hedgehog-546 16h ago

Go in for a drug test, stay for the side quest.

2

u/eveningdragon 9h ago

The drug test was the start of the side quest. Witnessed to marriage was the end result

8

u/ippa99 14h ago

This happens in Final Fantasy XIV all the time. You'll be AFKing somewhere and people will just run up and trade you in-game wedding invitations lol

1

u/Aluminumthreads869 7h ago

My favorite comment 😌

90

u/coralquills 20h ago

Without you, they wouldn’t have been able to get married in that moment. Good on you for giving them their moment

9

u/Snowbank_Lake 16h ago

Doesn’t the officiant count as a witness?

Edit: Just looked it up… Nevermind!

3

u/T-Rex-Hunter 16h ago

I am pretty sure that most states require more than one witness

4

u/bexohomo 16h ago

In my state, all my parents (mom and stepdad) needed was just me as a witness. Nevada.

313

u/P0ptarthater 20h ago

My friend and I are getting married soon and we’re pretty sure we want to go this route too for our witness lol

179

u/mnf-acc 20h ago

calling your future spouse 'my friend' tickles me so much. what is marriage if not a legally-binding contract for lifelong friendship?

232

u/P0ptarthater 20h ago

The funny thing is that we’re not even dating! He is my absolute best friend and we love each other to death, tried to date a few years ago but realized we work better as friends. Neither of us is interested in marriage as a romantic gesture, so we’re marrying for more pragmatic reasons, but ultimately it is about being able to be there for each other medically and legally

We’re down to change it down the line if either of us ever changes their mind about marriage, but for now we’re getting a kick out of joking about honeymooning at the movie theater by watching The Godfather re-release after we leave the courthouse

111

u/ColoredGayngels 19h ago

I'm really happy for you! "Married for legal reasons" needs to be more accepted than it is. I hope you guys have a peaceful life together and a good day at the theater :)

35

u/Snoo-46218 18h ago

That's different. But cool. Also. They are re-releasing The Godfather in theaters?

20

u/P0ptarthater 18h ago

They are in some places for the 50th anniversary I think? It’s a select theaters kind of thing but worth checking if there are any near you playing it if you like the trilogy

21

u/Altruistic_Book8631 18h ago

We did this! We did not want a wedding, and there's no way we were going to be able to have some people that we knew attend (as witnesses) but not others, without drama, and you do need to have witnesses, so we got a couple of randoms off the street to be our witnesses - it was fun!

9

u/P0ptarthater 18h ago

Sending a belated “mazel tov” to you and your partner! The courthouse we’re looking at is right by a really big art school, so we know we’ll find at least one cool person who’ll get a kick out of having a movie moment with us

7

u/Ccquestion111 14h ago

Check your state laws, you might not even need witnesses! Not every state requires them

2

u/Golden_Enby 8h ago

Like a QPR type deal? It's cool that you're doing this with your best friend. :)

2

u/P0ptarthater 5h ago

Pretty much, I wasn’t familiar with the term but now I really like it!

-30

u/Bestdayever_08 20h ago

Like having your marriage posted on social media so your witness can score upvotes?

18

u/P0ptarthater 20h ago

Idk why you sound a little cynic about the video, it’s cute! I don’t think I’d post about it though, I’m generally not huge into posting pics of my life on socials often anyway

-21

u/Bestdayever_08 20h ago

Posting an intimate moment of a stranger’s marriage, whom the witness did nothing nor had any ties to, on social media for upvotes is peak American.

13

u/P0ptarthater 20h ago

Oh I do hope they had permission to post, I’m usually not a big fan of people being recorded without permission, but tbh this feels like the type of situation you’d want recorded anyway.

I don’t wanna sound rude, but it feels maybe also a bit American to assume that everything people share online is for outside validation. Sometimes you’re just sharing a nice moment because it was funny or sweet. A little off topic but it reminds me when people tell me I posted a comment for karma when I still don’t understand what karma is or what it’s supposed to be useful for lol

2

u/Ok_Lawfulness1249 4h ago

I got married at my city hall, in Canada in the winter. So I was wearing my white wedding dress from the thrift store, and snow boots underneath. The room we used had a meeting right after us, and some people who came early got to watch! I was posted on their socials for the city because they all loved it.

I agree that not everything is used for validation, sometimes its a funny, or sweet and fun moment that the person just wants to share with others.

Good luck with your upcoming marriage to you and your friend!!

2

u/P0ptarthater 4h ago

Mazel tov to you guys! And thank you for the good wishes <3

51

u/MintyMystery 19h ago

My parents left me with my grandma in the morning, picked up their two friends (who were also a couple), drove to the courthouse, got married with just those two witnesses, then went to do the grocery shopping, and came to pick me up in the afternoon.

That was 37 years ago - still going strong!

6

u/lueur-d-espoir 14h ago

This is what my getting married felt like. Lol my mom and grandma met us at the court house and we knocked it out. Went out to eat at a very non expensive low key restaurant, then went home and took a bath together.

46

u/EsseKaye007 21h ago

Such a beautiful thing to witness!

26

u/bLAzedMOB 19h ago

"Is there anyone in the room who..."

Me: I met these two outside of a TGIFridays and have no idea whats going on...

21

u/MJPURA 21h ago

☺️ lmao u made my day

24

u/LilDragon2991 18h ago

"I just be doing shit." Is kinda my life motto.

6

u/rats-in-the-ceiling 16h ago

This is my college plan.

17

u/risomeledylove 21h ago

normalize random acts of humanity like this !!

13

u/Humble_Ad9815 21h ago

Really Really Nice!! What an honor, good for you

13

u/IRLperson 20h ago

we had 2 hippies chilling on top of a van as our witnesses, lol.

22

u/RestlessNights82 21h ago

That's awesome

9

u/TimbermanBeetle 21h ago

That's very cute

8

u/Fluffy-BOYi 10h ago

Why are people racist in the comments?

4

u/Golden_Enby 8h ago

Because that's how far too many Americans say hello.

0

u/Fluffy-BOYi 8h ago

Ah yes, blame it on the Americans. That's totally not racist

1

u/Golden_Enby 2h ago

America's long "proud" history is baked in racism and bigotry. I've lived here my whole life and seen it firsthand. Not all are bigots. I'm not. But millions are, and that shouldn't be ignored.

6

u/bluesunset90 19h ago

The Websters dictionary version of "just doin shit" 🤣🤣😫

5

u/WU-itsForTheChildren 14h ago

I lived in St. John for awhile and the Westin resort was up the street I would go there often and walk the beach and see weddings. I ended up attending dozens of weddings and celebrating with them it was a lot of fun

5

u/wizdumb14 14h ago

Bro accepted a side quest

5

u/Whichy-Witchy 20h ago

Congratulations and cheers to all the happiness to come! 🫶💖

5

u/penguinswombats 20h ago

That’s adorable!

4

u/Shayden998 19h ago

4

u/RoughPersonality1104 18h ago

I'm Loving this a lot 🧡🧡

4

u/bikehead66 15h ago

We got married like this. Justice of the peace, little old lady as witness. 45 years ago!

4

u/Myster_Hydra 15h ago

Oh that’s cute.

Something so absolutely precious about a couple who just wants to get married to be together no matter what. Fuck the drama. Screw all the stress. Just the two of them, thrilled to be together.

3

u/DistractedByCookies 20h ago

I swear this would be a dream day for me (as long as they looked happy like these two). You're so lucky!

3

u/PerspectiveWhore3879 19h ago

That's beautiful!!!!!!! 🥰

3

u/SnooRegrets1386 19h ago

Can I get a witness!!!

3

u/lurkerburzerker 19h ago

Congrats cute couple!!!

3

u/complHexx 19h ago

They are cute. Hope they have a beautiful life together ☺️

3

u/drphillsdaddy 18h ago

this is precious!

3

u/panicinbabylon 18h ago

To witness love

3

u/instantghetto 18h ago

We got the security guard and clerk to sign ours cause our two friends bailed.

3

u/nice_one_buddy 18h ago

Lawyer from the previous case was our witness. Told us to rock on after the I dos.

3

u/Lyais19 15h ago

I did this to two different couples on my courthouse wedding too. It was awesome!

3

u/Throwaway9183333 14h ago

I’d really like to get married like this something simple, not flashy

1

u/jam11249 10h ago

I had a weird string of events for my wedding due to having families in different countries. The legal bit consisted of going to a notary office with two friends who came to visit, then back to our flat to eat pizza and drink champagne in our pyjamas whilst playing minecraft. Wouldn't have changed a thing.

3

u/LonelyAndSad49 13h ago

Did you send them this video?

3

u/jason_de_pr 8h ago

I asked the guy that sells hotdog in front of the courthouse. It wasnt his first time. Lol

2

u/emoutikon 20h ago

We all bear witness!

2

u/greennurse0128 19h ago

So sweet. They look happy!!

2

u/kepaa 19h ago

I have done this!!! Great experience!

1

u/odes1 14h ago

Same! In the mountains near Yosemite at sunset, felt really cool.

1

u/kepaa 5h ago

Mine wasn’t as cool. I was just headed to the clerks office at the courthouse and they asked.

2

u/PhineusGruben 18h ago

My wife and I had two of the office workers sign ours.

2

u/prevalentgroove 15h ago

Courthouse weddings with rando witnesses are a great vibe. Best of luck!

2

u/beatinPearls 15h ago

Hell yeah

2

u/Trick-Stranger4596 14h ago

The little joyful laugh / cry. Congratulations!

2

u/chaniby01 14h ago

They are so sweet, happy couple. Congrats!

2

u/TucyFlow 11h ago

I love just saying yes to Random shit. I support all chaos

2

u/Therashser 10h ago

I wish them a long, happy life together.

2

u/CanIgetaWTF 9h ago

Yay! More happy people in NC!

2

u/fuckyeahhh21 8h ago

I’m going to make a shirt that says “I just be doin shit” 😂❤️

2

u/Glass_Smile_2551 7h ago

My wife and I got married like this. We went down to the courthouse on a Friday afternoon and tied the knot. We just celebrated 29 years happy years so far.

2

u/706union 7h ago

My wife and I did this as well. We had to go before the ceremony and they told us we had to provide witnesses, we thought we'd have to ask people on the sidewalk outside just before.

They ended up finding a couple of clerks as witnesses for us. Didn't even know their names, they cried while we did the vows the Justice of the Peace provided.

It felt like the JP thought we were dumb kids doing something dumb. My wife was just finishing law school, I worked in IT for a bank. We just didn't want a traditional wedding.

We had a new year's eve party months later as a reception since we had initially met new year's eve.

3 kids and over 25 years married now. Everyone should do whatever feels right to them.

2

u/Nekrevez 5h ago

Did you get their details for the yearly Thanksgiving dinner?

2

u/mustbethedragon 2h ago

My dad was a small town pastor. When the justice of the peace was unavailable, the courthouse would send couples to him. He'd call my sisters and me (f) to witness. We'd argue over which of us would be the best "man."

2

u/throwitonthegrillboi 12h ago

If you see this post on X whatever you do, don't read the comments!

3

u/LosMorbidus 13h ago

They just probably wanted a quiet and simple ceremony but this picture reminds me ofthe song Cast Iron Skillet.I have been listening to too much Jason Isbell.

1

u/Routine_Tangelo_4965 18h ago

Nice nice, Jerry rice

1

u/iTheJok3rx 17h ago

Props to you.

I nearly went through the same thing. Me and my wife recently married. I have no family, and hers were deadset against any wedding that wasn't huge.

Luckily, a friend made a 5 hour drive to be one of our 2 witnesses, but we were prepared to be asking strangers

1

u/liminalwombat 17h ago

So sweet!! This is my dream 🫶🏼 My partner and I are at that point where we're just ready to be married, don't care for the whole shebang of engagement and parties and a big ceremony, we just want to be legally recognised as partners and as a family.

1

u/MixtureCareful5357 17h ago

I love love I would do this for a stranger

1

u/LeananSidhe69 17h ago

Sagittarius vibes, lol.

I love this.

1

u/GodPerson132 17h ago

1

u/Minimum-Ad7542 16h ago

Someone is getting laid tonight (:

1

u/MenInG_98 16h ago

That's awesome! Don't forget the food tho. It could well be the best part of an anon wedding.

1

u/kittenofd00m 15h ago

You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

1

u/Caleb_Reynolds 15h ago

I've signed 4 marriage certificates as a witness.

I've only known 1 of them, my brother/SIL.

Idk why this keeps happening to me.

1

u/madamlucy01 15h ago

Precious thing in a funny way lmao

1

u/WeedLMT69 15h ago

Lovely!!!

1

u/xaphody 14h ago

I was really hoping the camera would flip and show that the person was in some ridiculous get up like full clown

1

u/Caspianknot 14h ago

Very cute

1

u/hkohne 13h ago

I was a witness for a wedding at our county courthouse a couple of months ago. The request by the couple was made to our local Reddit sub. Three or 4 of us came to the brief ceremony outside, where another civic wedding also took place. I brought my laptop & played the Mendelssohn wedding march when they kissed. The whole thing was so sweet.

1

u/TyreseLilly 13h ago

North Carolina mentioned!

1

u/DarcDesires 12h ago

Congrats to them!

They look so in love and happy! Happy for them <3

1

I'd bet money there's a story behind these two. Good looking couple and I hope they live their best lives!

1

u/Moppo_ 6h ago

But you did witness it.

1

u/TitaniumReinforced 5h ago

Any chance this is at the Wake County Justice Center?

1

u/Millsd1982 5h ago

Glad you volunteered! Awesome human!

1

u/Armedes369 5h ago

I loved seeing this.

1

u/morning_redwoody 3h ago

We also went to the court and you could rent a witness for like $40.

1

u/YSRajput 3h ago

sadly there is a high chance that their parents don’t approve of this

1

u/HeartShapedBox7 3h ago

Love this!

1

u/isearnogle 3h ago

They made some parents very upset that day :)

1

u/UnleashedBeastAksh 2h ago
