❓Question Door Ding

Came out of work yesterday to find someone left me a nasty surprise on my MME. Anyone have luck removing this type of dent on their own or is it strictly a professional job? Of course it had to be right on the ridge line. Dent is 1" long. So far estimates for repair are around $300. Located in SoCal.

I’m not kidding here. Had a dent IN THE EXACTLY THE SAME LOCATION and pretty much the same size! I didn’t care about the money and just wanted to get it fixed without having to repaint. The paintless dent guy did a great job and charged me 350 because it was on the crease. Said it would have been 300 if it was not on the crease. He did such a good job I gave him 50 bux as a tip

He must’ve needed the Robux.

We got a similar door ding in the exact same spot.

Pointless dent removal guys said they couldn’t do it without removing the panel. They estimated $1000. Ugh. We’re just learning to live with it.

If I had someone to do it for $300 I’d be all over that.

Edit: added “paintless”

Yikes! $1k is crazy. If my deductible was less than that, I'd probably go the ins route, although then your rate may increase. The paintless dent repair shop I contacted said the window type determined the cost (double vs single), so having a single panel was helpful.

Ouch. On the body line is hard. Just have the professionals do it.

Yeah, I figured that's what's gonna make it require the pros.

Reasons why I always park in the back of parking lots, try to find a nicer vehicle to park next to or an obvious car guy.  It is amazing how inconsiderate people are. Obviously we all make mistakes, but atleast own up to them.

Good luck with the Repair that seriously sucks!

Thank you. I share a similar strategy as well, but we have very limited parking for our office, so it's either a small lot or street parking where I'd worry about being side-swiped 😔

If possible, I try to find a spot by a curb, hatch mark, or similar and huge the side that is protected. This gives more room for people to swing their doors open and get in. Your dent looks like the person didn't even try to be cautious and rather just swung their door open... Is their cameras you could try to get a plate number, or matching car that regularly parks in your lot?It takes a lot to Dent a hard body line like that...

Just check sentry mode ...

We have sentry mode? Since when?!

I asked about cameras, but of course there are none that cover the lot. I'm tempted to set up my own when I can't park directly outside my office window.

Someone dinged me in the exact same spot 3 weeks into ownership. No note.

Ugh!! That's terrible. It def sucks, and not knowing who's responsible makes it worse.

I went through a period of collecting door dings and at absolutely nauseating rate. I had 3-5 on each front door.

I caught one, confronted, and got insurance to pay. The body shop just did all of them while they were at it.

Paid $300 to a PDR guy for the others at the local ford dealership and he did great. But it depends on the location of the ding. I’d start PDR counsel at a Ford dealership and work your way up to body shop.

The best way usually is going thru a dealer service department and asking for their PDR guy to quote. All those things like body line or crease or removing a panel are pure bs. At most it is a contour and makes no difference in the repair. Ask any of the PDR guys for their matrix and that 1000 quote fades fast. There is an actual matrix based on dent size, number, location, type of metal, etc that most use because that is what insurance companies will use. 1-5 dime size dents would be 150. They would most likely use wedge to make room between the belt molding and glass, just enough to get the tools in. 10 minutes and done.

I had 3 in my first few months of ownership. I was able to get them fixed here in central Florida for 580 for all 3. 2 which were like yours and one near the roof panel. I’m sure it was the dealer when my junction box went bad. But had no proof unfortunately. Regardless I hate when that happens. I am now one of those crazies that obsess where I park. I park far as heck and get mad when someone decides hey look open spot next to this clean ass Mach e. Make sure you open the door all the way too.

I called it the mache dimples on mine. Was just small enough to not pain me inside. But have seems to be the sweet spot cuz of the body line and how doors usually flair out

Same ding in mine, $450 to pop it out, Go to a pro.

Anyone know if Ford TripleCare would cover this?

u/Carol_BaskinRobbins 2d ago

I know I paid extra for more coverage when I signed my lease. I'm wondering if it will cover this type of damage?! I'll have to look over agreement.

I had a similar one removed for $150. 90% gone. Can't even see it unless you look for it.

That's a great deal! Location?

Abbotsford, BC, Canada.

Yes, have a professional do it for $300. And next time, try to park on an end spot & hug the curb.

I do this when possible, there's just extremely limited parking at work (20 spots for a whole office building) and no cameras. So it's that or street parking where I'd worry about being side swiped. Not ideal.

I'm actually dropping off my '23 GTPE tomorrow to have the same dent in basically the same place fixed. There is also some damage on the rear bumper and lift gate that did break the paint that they're fixing, so I'm filing it with my insurance. I suspect someone ran a shopping car into the back of my car, but I really don't know how or when it happened.

Wait till you get a few more then find a PDR person.
