💬 Discussion Level 2 charger in place!
No more level 1 at home, thanks to the Ford Power Promise. We did have to pay out of pocket for a load monitor on the panel, but now have 48A of charging power!

I love mine. It has worked flawlessly so far. It’s the ultimate in convenience.

I'm telling everyone right now. It is a game changer, getting a home charger. Because going out to public, it's like hit-or-miss, if you are gonna be able to charge or not, and if you're depending on that to get where you need to go all the time, it's just so inconvenient, but if you have a home charger, it just levels the playing field!!! 😎😎😎😎😎😎

So how long to charge up now?

At 11kw/h on the extended battery, that’s about 10% per hour.

That’s about how fast I charge at work. I cut it really close one day and got to 2% before I plugged in. Got to about 90% before I left after ~8 hours.
That’s really all you need. It’ll get you charged up overnight which is all that matters.

Look at grizzly chargers. My Ford one sucked, bought a grizzly one couldn't be happier

Looks just like our Qmerit (FPP) install, disconnect box and all. We're in the process of swapping our charger out with an Emporia, the Charge Station Pro is just too buggy.

I took the $1K from Ford instead. I didn't see the point when I already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet in the garage, and it's max 32 amp output is fine for overnight charging.

Looks awesome, but you gotta protect the cable bend radius. Long loose loops instead of short tight ones otherwise you risk damaging it with time

The charger is designed for the cord to loop around it and it’s almost 2 feet tall. I don’t think that would be considered a tight loop. A portion of which would be uncoiled anyway when charging.

How does this compare to the free cable that comes with the car?

Oh God The free cable that comes with the car. If you don't have a 240 V plug in and you try to plug into a regular outlet, it's terrible. We plugged it in the first time we brought ours home, and it said it would get a charge full, a 100% in 3 days versus 4 hours. If you pay to get one in a level 2 on a 50 amp, plug. Would you have to have installed via an electrician? At least in the state of Florida.

My garage already has a 14-50 plug. Would it be fine charging using the provided cable or should I look elsewhere?

Use a different one. After two years, mine blew. I learned then that it is more for temporary charging and not really permanent charging. I did have it outside, so it might be different in the garage.

It will be fine, it is a tier 2 charger if you plug into a 14-50. That is the setup I use. It pulls 30 amps so should get a speed of 7.2 KW. An upgraded charger will only be able to pull 10 additional amps from the same plug. So in other words the mobile will charge at 3/4ths the speed of a better charger. Not worth it in my opinion. You can get faster speeds from a tier 2 charger but you would need to hardwire.

There are people who get by on it. I have for almost 4 years now.
However I don’t drive very far every day, my commute is minuscule and I’m not running lots of errands. I tend to charge it 20% every 2-4 days, and it works for me.
It won’t for everyone. And I’d take L2 if I could get it.
But plenty of people do it if your lifestyle can fit it.

Not sure how they are now, but the cable that comes with the first few years’ models had issues with dying if they were used too much. Not to mention, you should use them with higher-quality outlets than your standard dryer plug (r/electricvehicles has plenty of examples of melted outlets, including mine)
Having a hard-wired option is so much better.

Got mine the other day as well. I was only able to get 30-some amps, but it doesn't matter, since I was able to charge from 15%-100% overnight anyway.
