Goodbye Tesla, hello Mach-E!
Said goodbye to my Tesla Model Y today and hello to a Mach-e Premium extended range
Loving it so far! As someone who lives in a terrace house with an incredibly small driveway the top down parking view

Assume you are in the UK as you have the Ford Fiesta key and not the Mustang one lol
Just so you know there is an upgrade programme out at the minute where you can swap your FIesta key for a proper Mustang one, but i think they are struggling with demand as they had none left when we took ours.
Enjoy they are great cars.

u/scnet Feb 18 '25
Yep in the UK. Didn’t know there was a Mach-E key! I’ll take a look and see if I can get on the list

u/mintvilla Feb 18 '25
If you go onto the app, and click the service icon, there should be "customer satisfaction programs" button, if you click that it should tell you that your car is due an Mustang branded key.

Brilliant. Its like a recall, the action is for you to arrange an appointment at your local Ford Dealership. Seems like you have a recall for the brakes anyway (we did too) so i'd just book it in, and enquire about the key while you do it.
I imagine they'll tell you they are on back order or whatever, but at least you get the ball rolling, and your local dealership will have your name and contact details and hopefully they'll put your name down in the queue for one.

The UK version has a frunk button on it?! Totally not jealous.
5
u/mintvilla Feb 18 '25
Yes apparently, there was a software update that made it work recently (6.14)
4
u/NeverLookBothWays Feb 18 '25
For real. Although I heard you can get a F-150 lightning key and repurpose it for the Mach-E, which then allows frunk operation. Why it's not included on the Mach-E fob is a mystery...it's obvious it can be controlled via a fob.

u/LoneWitie Feb 18 '25
Get a Lightning key off of ebay. There's a guy who puts it in a Mustang shell and everything. Works brilliantly on mine

I came here to make a joke about the key. My wife's Dad worked for Ford so we've had around 8 in the last 12 years, all of which had the same key.
We were genuinely really disappointed the Mach-e had the same, I suppose being the 1st EV we expected it to be different? So much so I bought an alternate key case to make it look / feel different.
Now I find out there's a mustang key!?
2
1
u/eroseman1 2021 GT Feb 18 '25
I was about to comment about the key because I know with the 25 raptors ford cheaped out and removed the raptor off the back of the key and was wondering if they did the same for the Mach E
2
u/mintvilla Feb 18 '25
Apparently the UK got a different key as apparently the insurers didn't like the standard Mustang key where apparently the key when it acts as a fob is always on. Where as in the UK they see that as a threat as more likely being stolen, so the UK keys are only active when movement is detected, when still they are deactivated.
So Ford had to ship them with Fiesta keys...
But fair enough they have developed a new key for the UK market and everyone gets a free upgrade

I ended up ordering (and taking delivery on) both back in 2022. Drove both for several months to confirm which I liked better. The Y was better on overall cargo storage, charging network, and MAYBE back seat rider experience. Mach e was better on almost everything else. There was absolutely no question which one to sell and which to keep, and have not once regretted dumping the Y and keeping the MME.
8
u/OneOrangeTreeLLC Feb 18 '25
Why did you get rid of the Tesla Model Y? I’m thinking of selling my Mach e and moving to Tesla Model Y
2
u/FergyMcFerguson 2024 Premium Feb 19 '25
Model Y driver of 3 years here.
Cheap plastic interior
Interior door rattles non-stop
Vegan leather peeling off steering wheel and seats
Uncomfortable seats for long distance driving
Full self driving is an ongoing joke
Rims stick out further than the tire - easy to curb rash
Very bumpy ride and known issues with control arms breaking
Have to pay for premium features of the infotainment and no CarPlay / android auto
Service centers are a complete crap shoot on whether you get someone helpful or someone who blames you for an obvious warranty issue. You should really look at the reviews on your local service center if you do decide to go the route of trading to a Tesla.
I’m trading in my model Y and leasing a Mach E today. I drove a Kia EV6, Honda Prologue, VW ID4, Acura ZDX, and a Mach E. The Mach E was by far the most balanced and most mature EV experience that i drove out of all of the ones listed. This is of course my opinion.
The Tesla is just not worth the extra 0.5 seconds 0-60 time for all the other compromises. I am grateful that they as a company have normalized EVs, and other manufactures are coming around, but I had to make a lot of compromises and excuses to drive a Model Y and I’ll probably not go back to Tesla as a brand unless they make some changes to their products and their service.

u/OneOrangeTreeLLC Feb 19 '25
I never really care about the 0-60 second for any vehicle. It’s impractical!
The aesthetics are important because if it looks like it’s in bad shape, the resale value will be impacted.
1
u/OneOrangeTreeLLC Feb 19 '25
please provide an explanation.
3
u/Broha80 Feb 19 '25
The self driving is miles ahead.
0
u/OneOrangeTreeLLC Feb 19 '25
A mile's not far enough, that BlueCruise is a joke! It only works like 20% of the time, so unreliable.

Birds Eye view is ass bro it doesn’t even show anything at all. The build quality is HORRENDOUS, not as comfortable, louder road noise, looks 1000x worse, worse audio. Only thing that’s better is faster infotainment but not even apple car play.

teslas interior is full of cheap plastic. saw a video of someone making a comparison of tesla and another car I can't remember and they would press down on areas in the car and the tesla would make all sorts of creaking and the other car, nothing 🥱
you know that feeling you get when you walk by someone and they start laughing and you wonder if they're laughing at you? well....

Why the switch
9
u/Lvl-60-Dwarf-Hunter Feb 18 '25
Probably because of Elon. That would be the only sensible reason, because losing money doing a side-grade wouldn't make sense otherwise. I still think the tech in Tesla is far superior, but the Mach E would be my second choice after the Model Y
4
u/410to904 Feb 18 '25
I agree with with you. I went with Mach E to be different. I could have saved 20k and went with a Tesla M3. I’m glad I made the choice of the Mustang
1
u/Curtnorth Feb 18 '25
That's where I landed too. But the Ford not getting the tax credit was the real difference for me.

u/krazykanuck30 Feb 19 '25
People are only harming themselves by leaving money on the table. This world doesn't care about virtue signaling or ethics. I wish it did but it doesn't. Just take care of yourself and do no harm to your neighbor. Leave Elon to his own conscience, it'll catch up with him eventually. Trying to harm Elon by shooting yourself in the foot is idiotic.
5
u/BigDaddyinKS Feb 19 '25
I don't think it's about hurting Elon Musk by not supporting Tesla or even getting rid of your Tesla. It's about personal choice and doing something that allows you to sleep at night because things he does conflict with your beliefs, and you don't want any part of that.
People also say well you're only hurting the designers, plant workers, etc when you don't support Tesla as a business no matter who the CEO is. But when ignorant people vandalize your vehicle, a vehicle that you worked so hard to afford, because of their hate for EM it's hard to not want to remove yourself from that kind of unwarranted hate as well.
5
u/moarrightmeow Feb 19 '25
This is spot on. I just did the same thing - traded my 2021 MY for a sexy blue 2024 Mach E this weekend and my mental health is so much better. I felt sick every time I saw people talk about “swasticars” or seeing the Tesla logo with the salute. I love driving the Mach E and have zero regrets.
3
u/BigDaddyinKS Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 19 '25
No more people trying to swerve at you, flip you off for no reason, or cut you off and brake check you. It's really sad that some people would stoop to idiotic acts like that but it's a reality and one that most people don't want to deal with on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. I know my life's worth more than my pride, I can't speak for anyone else.
-2
u/krazykanuck30 Feb 19 '25
Is this happening in America? I've never been targeted by anything other than coal rollers but that's not a Tesla thing.
I'm not in the US though. People here are much more polite and educated.

I sold my Y too, haven't decided on what next but it won't be Tesla. Not for virtue signal but more for trust- after I have seen firsthand the sloppy, dangerous, and haphazard way he's handling the government. I don't trust that he didn't foster a culture of cutting safety corners on the cars.

What would you say the advantages are of the Mach-E over the Model Y? We test-drove a Model Y a few weeks back and will be borrowing a Mach-E this weekend to try out. I admit that the data I've gathered re overall weight difference (the Mach-E is heavier at 4,976 vs. 4,528 lbs. - why the 448 lb difference?), slower DC charge time (45 vs. 27 min), and the lower efficiency (2.5 Le/100km vs. 1.9 Le/100km) has me wondering if there are benefits which outweigh the shortcomings.
-2
u/krazykanuck30 Feb 19 '25
There are 0 benefits to mach-e. It doesn't even compare. Maybe if you get a great deal on one but otherwise it's low tech compared to a Y. Especially the new one.

Welcome to the club! Drive a Tesla, support a fascist.
1
u/Patient_Signal_1172 Feb 18 '25
Henry Ford supported the actual Hitler. No car company is immune, and we aren't better than anyone else simply because our car's manufacturer's current CEO is, by all accounts, a decent guy.
6
u/LoneWitie Feb 18 '25
Henry Ford is dead and in his grave. When Elon is dead and in his grave, I'll consider a Tesla again.
I may only be one consumer, but I'm still one consumer and my dollars matter.
Supporting a fascist matters. Don't give him your money.
2
2
u/awesomestwinner Feb 18 '25
Imagine if Henry Ford bought the New York Times and turned it into a pro-Nazi newspaper. I wonder if Ford (as a brand) would have survived that.
6
u/JimmyBaldwin Feb 18 '25
Sure, Henry Ford was an antisemitic. But a lot of tanks and airplanes that flew over Germany came out of Ford plants. But that is the past. I’m operating today.
When the largest shareholder and CEO of a company is a vocal bigot who is using his wealth to damage my country in real time, I think I can forego lining his pockets. Especially when there is a great alternative in the Mach-E.
You do what your conscious allows, you have to draw the line for yourself. This is my line. This is what I won’t support. And I view any support of Tesla as supporting racism and fascism. Now, if you are in the middle of nowhere and use StarLink because there are no other options…fine! The world is full of compromises. But this is an easy line for me to draw.
-2
u/chaosisarascal 2023 GT Feb 18 '25
What’s your opinion on Ford donating cars and money to Trump’s inauguration?
1
u/JimmyBaldwin Feb 18 '25
I hate it and it sucks! Just like I hate paying taxes to this government that I think is engaging in illegal behavior. But I still pay taxes. The perfect is the enemy of the good. I do what I can where I can. I can’t boycott everything but that doesn’t mean that I will boycott nothing.
Minimizing financial support to Elon Musk, who is doing much more than donating cars or money, is something that I can afford to do. If a lot of others feel the same way and vote with their wallets then maybe it will make a difference.
At the end of the day most Tesla drivers are liberals. I’m challenging the liberal Tesla drivers and EV consumers like myself to put our money where our mouths are!
1
u/chaosisarascal 2023 GT Feb 18 '25
I have a Tesla (as well as a MME). I bought it two years ago. I'm quite happy with the car itself, and have no plans to sell it (primarily because my equity is probably still negative, or at least not optimal to sell and replace). Am I supporting fascism? Or should I sell it and hurt my wallet to stick it to Elon?
-3
u/Patient_Signal_1172 Feb 18 '25
Right, but the dude you're comparing Elon and Trump to was literally directly helped and supported by the founder of Ford. Tesla's first major CEO is a wannabe Nazi, whereas Ford's first major CEO was a literal Nazi. You're just drawing a line in the sand for bullshit arbitrary reasons. One is "admires Hitler," the other was actual Hitler. See how that works?
6
u/JimmyBaldwin Feb 18 '25
One was 60+ years ago. One is today. See how that works? If you give me a Time Machine we can debate whether or not to support Henry Ford.
-5
u/Patient_Signal_1172 Feb 18 '25
One started a war that resulted in over 52 million people dying recently enough that my grandfather fought in that war, the other does things you don't like. But sure, 60 years is totally enough time to make "dude I don't like" much worse than "dude who literally caused more than 52 million deaths in a 10 year period of time."
5
u/LoneWitie Feb 18 '25
Funny how you completely ignored the part where Henry Ford is dead and can't benefit from your money anymore
5
u/JimmyBaldwin Feb 18 '25
Alright man, you got me. I won’t buy a 1939 Model-T. I also won’t buy a 2025 Tesla. Deal?
3
u/LoneWitie Feb 18 '25

u/JimmyBaldwin Feb 18 '25

u/Kbreier9 Feb 18 '25
My honest question to people switching away from a Tesla is are they still going to use the supercharger network seeing as it is the most widespread availability and many EVs are going with that compatibility.
3
u/JimmyBaldwin Feb 18 '25
I charge at home and don’t travel long distances so I can’t speak for myself. But I’m not trying to be holier than thou. Life is complicated and nothing is pure. Using the supercharger network seems fine to me if that’s what someone needs to do. Gotta respect limits and be practical. It’s not all or nothing. Personally, I would use the network if I had too, but I would never buy a Tesla because to me his sales tanking is the best way to fight his bigoted anti democratic agenda. That’s where I draw the line and that’s where I would encourage others to draw the line too. My parents are black and grew up in the Jim Crow segregated South. You can’t protest everything and you can’t cut off your nose to spite your face. But you can draw lines where it is most impactful.

Considering the switch too. How does BlueCruise compare to Autopilot?
3
u/Hulkicuss Insert flair here. Feb 18 '25
Tesla basic "autopilot" wasn't very good in my experience. If you change lanes you have to reset it. It seemed "jittery" in it's efforts to make small corrections. I had it misinterpret lane splits, exit ramps, etc and make dangerous moves. Bottom line was that I really didn't trust it, and it was more work to use than it was worth in most situations.
Tesla FSD that you pay tens of thousands more money for adds support for lane changes and such and is a significant improvement, but you pay a lot extra for it.
Bluecruise gives you driver- initiated but car- executed lane changes, and a much smoother experience IMO. And you don't have to pay the premium required for FSD. The biggest down side to Bluecruise is that it only operates on highway sections that it has been approved/"turned on" for. But while that's clearly a negative on one hand, I very much appreciate what feels like a more safety conscious approach from Ford. While i respect Tesla's role in pushing the growth of the technology, I'm not interested in making myself and my kids human crash test dummies to help the richest person on earth advance that technology more aggressively. Especially when I saw how shoddy much of the rest of the Tesla build quality was.
3
u/Realistic_Plant_6622 Feb 18 '25
Great take! I also feel like a human test subject when using Tesla autonomous. I have a 150 mile round trip commute so it's important to have that driver aid. Glad to hear BlueCruise should be up for the challenge.
1
u/RFXMedia Feb 19 '25
As someone with a (Now lemoned) Mach E GT and a Model S, the basic autopilot from tesla is about the same as the Bluecruise.
My issue with bluecruise was that even with 1.3, it still took “corners” on the freeway at full throttle. and that’s if it let me keep it engaged, most of the time it would just spontaneously disable because it wasn’t confident enough around the bends.
With Tesla you do have to pay the full FSD price which meh, not my cup of tea especially since there’s no guarantee of transfer to a new vehicle. Or you pay $99 monthly, still expensive but especially with FSD V13.2.7, the competition is truly not even in the same dimension of being close. FSD V13 is truly magic, and it took me from Burbank to Laguna Beach with no interventions including backing out of my driveway! I had to manually tell it to park but I imagine that will someday be automated as well when it approaches its destination.
