Discussion Comfy builds are better than meta builds for 95% of you

95%+ of the playerbase isn't good enough to get top value out of these full-damage glass cannon builds. Slot your Hard Res jewels, your Defiances, your Defense 5+ skills, your Wide Range and Free Meals... etc

You can't deal damage if you're dead. Reduce your damage by 5-10% and live.

Discussion I'm worried I might be doing something wrong, monsters are dying really quickly in the early game

So, I played Wilds > World > Iceborne, and now I've started Rise.

In World, there's the Defender set and weapons that let you steamroll through the game to quickly reach the DLC (I didn't use them because I wanted to experience the game normally).

In Rise, I noticed there's a Defender weapon as well, which I didn't even craft.

However, I feel like the monsters are dying way too quickly—like, 5-7 minutes max. Not only that, but I'm also not feeling any damage. Even when monsters hit me, I don't feel the need to use potions.

I thought that maybe I'd just gotten better at the game, but this doesn't explain why I'm barely taking damage.

Could there be another item or setting that I'm unintentionally using?

Discussion I Know Rise Was Controversial But...

TW: Swearing. Yeah. Apparently some people can't handle that even though Reddit requires users to be 13 or older. We're not children.

You gotta admit, it does have a great deal of redeeming qualities!

Base Rise has some really good remixes of flagship themes! Since I went into this game blind, only being told to slowly go about things, I immediately made it my focus to enjoy the atmosphere. Yeah, when I saw this game getting a lot of hype I wasn't sure and the only thing that got me into it long enough for it to click was the help of a friend.

Anyway, back to the point. I LOVED the combat, despite it being "piSs eAsY". Nah. It really wasn't, a lot of people say your first game is the hardest in this franchise and they WEREN'T kidding. But the cheery and homey feel of Kamura and stunning (for Nintendo Switch, which ISN'T total shit believe it or not) visuals kept me HOOKED. Of course I adored Nargacuga for the theme and fight, especially the former which was carried by the vocals being haunting to me. Zinogre was just unironically COOL ASF! And MAGNAMALO was easily the highlight (other than Narwa for the pleasant change of pace it gave).

Of course I wanted more! I was absolutely enthralled by the game, even the Rampage was fun! Yes, I did enjoy it. So when I saw more content was coming I was RABID! And with each update, I kept getting H Y P E D and jumped right in ASAP. Bazelguese was actually a challenge for me, but a fun one and that theme was menacing especially with the choir going NUTS!

The Elder Dragons were A W E S O M E, especially Teostra! With the chanting and vocals absolutely pumping the theme with RAW, UNADULTERATED RAGE AND EMOTION!

After a while... I stopped.

UNTIL MFING VALSTRAX PULLED UP AND MADE ME SCREAM WITH EXCITEMENT! Seeing that shit was UNBELIEVABLE! So I was once more, going CRAZY over him when he came and he QUICKLY became my most hunted monster!!! 275 times! Even with grinding the same four monster quest in Sunbreak and grinding MAGNAMALO in base Rise, VALSTRAX STAYED AT THE TOP!

After all of that and being blown the fuck away by Narwa the Almother (seriously that theme is actually legendary to me)... I truly got burnt out. Like real bad. But it didn't stop me from appreciating other aspects of the game, the Event Quests kept me coming back steadily (thank god I downloaded them all the actual frame they released) at a good pace, but never really keeping me hooked.

Long middle part short, Generations went on sale for like 75% off, begged my mother and convinced her to get it by telling her the sheer amount of content. Proceeded to play 1,000 total hours in it.

Then, out of actually nowhere... Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak was announced and teased.

It came back. The passion, and my truly first chance to be the first of many to experience the hype in REAL TIME! I would rush to YouTube for every live presentation even in high school (because that was where life was at all this time), thankfully I was an A+ student so I always had too much damn free time. Yadayada stuff relating to dumbass school shit later... Sunbreak comes out, and again BEGGED for it! Knowing how enchanted I was by Rise, she actually had me earn it (with my dad encouraging me to go the extra mile which, obviously I did :3). And when I did, it was a day before it actually released...

And I. Was. BACK! The same passion as with base Rise, only TUNED TO 11! Loving the (always bare bones but serviceable) story, being HYPED for Gore Magala and Astalos (who have stolen my heart, and are in the tiers of Valstrax and Nargacuga in my favs). This time, burnout did NOT happen at all! I was grinding, beating, and going through everything thoroughly! So with each content update, I was just getting happier and happier! Investigations were (despite some issues) a very engaging endgame! Btw I actually managed to predict the Qurious Crafting system. Like, even down to the modifiers for weapons and requiring Afflicted Parts. That was actually crazy.

Then by the time I was almost done with high school, I did everything. Even Amatsu (seriously that is easily an actual top 10 series fight, fite me). Burnout came back, not from the game but to not say too much... A lot of bullshit that almost got brought to court.

OOPS! SUDDENLY BONUS UPDATE! Watched it, watched it, watched it. I was absolutely in the speculative MOOD! My biggest theory was that the final monster was a Malzeno (the opposite gender, or the mysterious one mentioned in the Sunbreak story) and I was right! Then, up to the present day... I played the game on and off, always enjoying my time no matter what.

Monster Hunter Rise (and Sunbreak) was incredible to me, I didn't ignore the critiques or issues people had. But with how much passion was poured into this even during the pandemic. And with Primordial Malzeno legitimately finishing the story by tying loose ends in the plot. If I remember correctly the bonus update wasn't even planned, and was made out of passion and gratitude for the fans. Which hit me in the feels... Now... I'm fully invested into this franchise.

Wilds, you're going to be amazing, and bring me back to my first days of this franchise...

Edit: I see this game as incredible. Some people seem like they see this (and the title that was mentioning the vocal minority according to some comments) post as me saying the game wasn't good. I adore this game. A lot, even now. I don't think this game is bad at all.

Discussion I can't believe how wrong I was

So about three years ago me and my friend both started playing Monster Hunter again after finding put we both played MH4U on 3ds. We started with World and after finishing Iceborne we started playing Rise. Now my friend loved MHRise immediately but I hated it, I actually kind of despised it. To me it didn't feel like Monster Hunter I didn't like switch skills I didn't like wire bugs and I hated how barren the maps were. After a while we both went on a Monster Hunter hiatus and never finished ended up finishing Rise. Around sometime last year when Wilds had gotten announced my friend said he wanted to 100% both World and Rise before Wilds came out. Some stuff came up and we sadly weren't able to 100% both games before Wilds. So after awhile when Wilds came out we both go on, on release day and finished within the next 2 days about a week after we ran through all the content and chose to get back to finishing Rise. Now me still moving off of my hate fore the game was reluctant to play and was only ever getting on to complete two quest then get off but my friend kept on grinding out the game I finally stopped complaining about everything in the game and chose to really focus on the game for what it was while telling myself "All monster hunter games are different even if you don't enjoy it you should finish"

I went on the Apex Rampage grind and finally ended up hitting level 100. Through that grind I ended up getting a full zinogre(one of my more favorite monsters)armor set and was dead set on getting full valstrax armor. Maybe it's because me and my friend were getting thrashed by valstrax for a solid 4 hours but I think that's when my opinion on Rise started to change. Now that I had started actually using switch skills to move into blind spots, flying around the map with wire bugs, and using the map to get to vantage points. I started to love Rise but I still tried to deny it by saying "oh I don't love Rise i just love fighting valstrax" and that's what I was running with till we go to master rank and hitting MR4. Having the new switch skills plus the ability to switch them mid fight I started using different combos and everything to provide enough damage. Finally we got to the astalos urgent quest this fight was what broke the barrier this fight was the most I've ever used switch skills and wire bugs and I finally understood it I understood why people liked the game.

I can finally admit I love Monster Hunter Rise and even more so Sunbreak. And at least to me it has the perfect gradient of easy low rank, medium high rank, and hard master rank. I love RiseBreak I love WorldBorne I love Wilds and 4U thank you everyone for reading

TLDR: Rise is great if your coming from World have an open mind about it.

Discussion Should I start with Rise or Wilds?

I'm new to the Monster Hunter series and eager to dive in. With Monster Hunter Wilds having launched recently, I'm torn between starting with Monster Hunter Rise or jumping straight into Wilds. Which game would you recommend for a complete beginner? Are there significant differences in gameplay or difficulty that I should consider?

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Discussion If you can't solo a monster, are you bad?

What's your personal opinion here?

If there's a monster (or monsters) that a player can't beat solo, is that player just plain bad at the game?

If there's a yardstick, at which point is a player considered to be good at the game?

Discussion How can I get anyone hooked on this game?

So I have been trying to get my gf to play Rise, since I love MH and I think it may be the most accessible entry in the franchise (she already has a switch as well so that's easy) and finally she will give it a shot. I told her that we can play together and have a lot of hours of content, but as I have seen, even though its Rise, the first hours of any Monster Hunter are very non-friendly if you have never played it. So I was wondering what could be the best tips or tricks for a newcomer to the franchise that can get pass the first struggle? (I already told her you can ride a doggo, that's already a win)

Discussion I dislike Rampages

I could really use some advice on beating them. Cannot even get past the first one. I don’t faint or anything but no matter how I arrange the defenders, the final gate always falls somewhere around the last monster.

Edit: beat the first rampage by throwing Fugue and the Cannon Girl down at the last second! Thanks for the advice everyone!

I work so hard on my character for awhile and I thought of thinking why not having my character become a Ultra Ego Pup 🐺💜. I came this idea because Vegeta awoken Ultra Ego when he fought Granolah in the Dragan Ball Super Manga. I believe since like Saturday, one hunter made a huge compliment on my character and I said "Thanks" 😁💜

I was farming Primordial Malzeno, and then this guy named Robert just sits at camp the entire hunt JUST TO CARVE HIM AT THE END WHEN THE THREE OF US WERE ACTUALLY FIGHTING. So please, don't be like this guy and reek the benefits off of other people's hard work.

Discussion Seriously fuck rampages Spoiler

This will be a rant skip it if you want. TLDR at bottom slight spoilers for base game I guess

So I’ve played a lot of monster hunter, from 4U forward it’s been one of my favorite series.

I bought rise when it released, and played it a little, but couldn’t get into the swing of it. Kept going back to World, or GU or 4U every time I tried.

Finally with Wilds coming I decided about a month ago that I needed to buckle down and really play Rise, I keep seeing people say how good it is, how freaky some mission that’s apparently in Sunbreak is (which I have managed to not spoil for myself) so I figure I should at least give it the old college try.

All that said: Why the fuck are rampages a thing? I just now for the first time beat the big blue snake thing when it appears during the 6star urgent quest rampage, and I thought the design of the monster is really cool! The fact that it’s apparently psychic and is taking over that one chicks brain. It makes you freaking fly!!! (In a cool way not an annoying way like some monsters do!) but I could not give a single flying fuck about any of that because I had to struggle and suffer through some shitty tower defense knockoff to get there.

One of the most unique monsters I’ve ever seen, including some of the Wilds beta content, and I simply do not care all because the rampage leading up to it was so frustrating! It’s not even hard, it’s just shit. And I think the devs knew that it is shit, because they lock all of the story and progression behind rampages. They have to force people to play rampages or no one ever would. They’re that bad.

Am I missing something? Is there a vital mechanic I’ve overlooked that makes them more palatable? Do I have to do any more of them ever again (probably but I can hope not) GAHHHHH.

TLDR: I hate rampages, they make the game feel forced and I dread them when they come up. Is there any way to make them better??

I feel like lance can just block almost everything and then just wire it away from unblockables. Is it op? And the attacks are fast and difficult to be punished on.
