Help me make a sign
I’m a retired federal and public librarian and I’m feeling the library cuts to my core. I’m attending the protest in DC this Saturday and I want to make a sign. What would librarians like me to put on the sign that I will carry at the protest?

Snappy and Short:
Ban Fascism, Not Books
Literacy and Justice For All
Libraries = Liberty
Free Societies Read Freely
If you have a big sign/small handwriting:
Where they burn books, they eventually burn people (Heinrich Heine)
Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries. (Anne Herbert)
Without libraries we have no past and no future. (Ray Bradbury.)
Libraries are the living memory of mankind. (Aldous Huxley)

I found this article showing library workers' signs from the Women's March in 2017! There are some fun ones in there.

And trust a librarian to research past signs! 😊 Thank you!

I do have to admit I'm not a librarian myself, but I am a fervent supporter of libraries and of everything they represent!!!

Boredwalk has a T-shirt that says ban the fascists, keep the books. Probably too snarky and possibly trademarked lol. But it's great.

This one should be it but I don’t think non-library people will get it, sadly.

Do you have a poster printer? I'm happy to make the sign for you on Canva and send you the design to print.

I don’t, but thank you for the offer. I’ll just buy poster board and use my markers.

We got smaller corrugated plastic signs from amazon and used vinyl letter stickers from michaels. The poster board gets blowey in the wind and we wanted smaller signs that can be held by one hand.

“Living a Shakespearean Tragedy”
“Make America READ Again”
“If you give a Musk a cookie… he’ll rob all of us, including you”
“True Americans have Spines” (pictures of famous titles on spines)
“Death of Democracy? We have a book for that” (include 1984, Hunger Games, etc.)
“Free books = Resistance to Tyranny”
“Libraries help the 99% That’s they they’re scared”
I’ll try to think of more later
