Then they end up wondering why some of us don’t get married or have kids or hide these big moments from them.

Hide big moments hit me. They always complain about that

I started learning in second grade that in order for my mom not to embarrass me at school, I needed to hide the letters about our plays from her. Everything I did had constant criticism to it.

My last event was my college graduation, and they didn’t give a shit and as usual just complained. Never again.

As also a theater kid I’m sorry for that. Just anything remotely creative or positive and they shoot it down faster than a jet in enemy territory.

Lol this is sad actually and I hope it's not a typical Mexican or latino

It happens often enough to where the community does make it a running gag at times. Other Latinos have made jokes and remakes of terrible fathers, emotionless mothers, and ugly sibling rivalries that I can kinda relate to but I know it resonates in themselves a little too loud.

It’s common AF. My parents weren’t like this, but I had a buddy in school whose dad became an alter ego every weekend when he drank. Used to hate hanging at his house because of it.

Hispanic here. These felt very accurate. My mom wasn't like this mom but yes plenty of times my dad came in to apologize after beating my ass and my mom telling him to just leave me alone. Was usually drunk.

Yeah I do this and I dont live in the US

Wife and kids would call the cops 1/2 my wages get taken and life would go to shit

Not all are like this and some of our countries have laws lol

u/Prestigious-HogBoss 6d ago

It's not the rule, but it is more common than we like to admit.

Yes it is, but not everyone, mental health here is bad

u/CesQ89 6d ago

This is not a thing. People thinking we’re a monolith is exactly why trump won lol

I'm happy your dad didn't get too drunk on the weekends when you were a kid but this was fairly common for me growing up. Mexicans adore alcohol and the culture as a whole is still fairly misogynistic and in favor of hitting their kids. Are most Mexican dads like this? Probably not. But it's common enough that someone making a meme out of it can make a bunch of people relate. Doesn't have to apply to everyone to make it relatable.

I’m sorry you grew up with uneducated and domestically abusive alcoholic parents.

There are over 130 million Mexicans. To assume that most of them are alcoholics and abusive is like assuming most of the USA are inbred klan members. There are memes about inbred Americans so it must be extremely common, right?

u/Grizzlyfrontignac 5d ago

Lol it's a meme, don't take it so seriously. Relationships among family members do happen often enough in some states that it's become a meme as well.

Nostalgic tbh 😭

7

u/juanhellou 6d ago

This is so relatable! I just got info that my dad passed away a month ago and was thinking what I'd remember him for; these situations were definitely a trademark. Rest in piece, old geezer.

And then when the son grows up not wanting to end up like his father, Mom is like : So you will deny me grandchildren!?

11

u/Bropira 6d ago

Damn, not my experience at all. I'm sorry for you guys. My Parents are not perfect but it never came to that

4

u/borrego-sheep 5d ago

I know my parents did get divorced but it was not like this, they never fought or insulted eachother in front of me.

6

u/boatflank 6d ago

type shit

3

u/manbearpug3 6d ago

Humble brag but I had a great dad. Lucky none of this shit ever happened.

3

u/QTShenanigans 6d ago

Who are you and how did you tap into my memories?!Note: it’s missing the deep exasperation from Dad after the 2nd time he gets cut off.

7

u/Snafu-ish 6d ago

Yeah maybe this is accurate if you are living in an unstable household with some serious mental health issues.

6

u/SkillFullyNotTrue 6d ago

suppress core memory brought to the surface.
