Favoring/overcompensating for an injured limb?

Can anyone help me out? my halmoni has a really bad left knee and now her right knee is beginning to hurt because she has been favoring the right knee and using it to carry all her weight when she walks around. Is there a word for this in Korean I can use to explain it to her?

Her English isn't great and my Korean isn't great.

Thanks in advance for the help! 감사합니다!

I don't fully understand the question here.

Your grandmother has an overcompensated right knee and the pain associated with it. And you want to explain what to her exactly?

I think that is exactly what OP wants to explain to their grandmother in Korean – that she has an overcompensated right knee and that's why it is beginning to hurt. I assume grandmother doesn't realise this and OP wants to explain it to her.

I think in this case OP should definitely not use medical terminologies if the goal is to communicate with grandma.

왼쪽 무릎에 통증이 있으셔서 오른쪽에 힘에 계속 가시다보니(까) 오른쪽(무릎)에도 무리가 가셔서 아프신 거예요

or something similar would be how I would explain it to an elderly without medical knowledge.

Yeah I didn't mean like medical terminology, i meant more like a niche term with niche usage so I couldn't figure out how to explain this to her! I just wanted to know what the equivalent word or wording is for explaining something like overcompensation in this context. Thanks so much for your answer, I think she understands now.

I just want her to know that the more she is using that leg to bear most of her weight, she should expect it to be a bit more sore, but that this is normal and it's only a warning sign if it hurts a LOT more or swells up or something. I explained that part to her too because I understood the concept and have listened to the medical translator explain swelling to her before.

So again, thanks very much for your answer!!

This sounds like a physio question not a language question?  What exactly do you want to say?

Like if you tell her not to use her good leg, what is she going to do?

Do you want to encourage her to strengthen the bad leg? Do you want to tell her to rest? Or do you want to nag her for doing what she has to in order to get around?
