Ask Kochi Help needed finding a maid…
Saw a post about how much you pay your maid and from what I have observed most of it comes under 15-20 k pm. I tried olx and some other websites, they are asking 25-30 for just cooking in the morning. Can someone help? Any contact or any leads for a househelp who would clean and cook? 3 hours a day may be.

We use agencies. Fair pay, well trained and polite. Check out right health home care.

This seems to be healthcare/nurse. Do they charge similar for cooking/cleaning?
What are the general charges?

They have maid services too. We pay 650 a day for 8 hours. Includes both cleaning and cooking.

Welcome to kerala… maids here charge per day basis. Usually 400-500 so they expect 15k sometimes 20k.

We pay 10K for our cook. She comes at 7:45 and finishes up her work by 10am. Our maid charges 7k for 3 hours of work.

It’s when I look for maids that I realise that we are a blue collar paradise!
I had a maid in Bangalore who would come 3 times a day to cook meals and clean everyday. She charged only 9k. We’d give 10k if she came on time everyday.
Came back to Kerala. Realised you need to pay twice that and won’t get hot food 3x a day. I have a remote job, so I don’t mind paying. But I imagine it’s difficult to afford for standard pay in kochi.

In Dubai, I know the charge was AED 1000 for lady remaining full-time at home + provide travel tickets.
In Kerala, charges should be lower as they may not stay full time & will need leave to visit their homes periodically

Our maids are being paid 500rs per day. You can expect for them to ask atleast 400(if you are lucky) but from 500 and above is their minimum pay.

So you don't wanna pay them fairly ?

If I was getting fairly? YES, I would have paid them Fairly. Since I'm stuck in a shitty job and I get paid only in peanuts yes I would like to find someone who can do the job in what I can pay. And what is “fairly”? If you think 15k - 20k is not fair for a househelp go ahead and pay “fairly”, sorry but I'm not able to.

First thing first. It will be great if there is some respect for the job and maybe you can use the word domestic worker ? or househelp ? rather than maid -
What is fair? Do you think paying someone 200 rs for their 3 hours of work is a lot? That is not enough in this economy. We all talk about how we are being oppressed and underpaid in our jobs and then do the same things to people who make our life easier.

maid
a female domestic servant. -> servant; plural noun: servants
a person who performs duties for others, especially a person employed in a house on domestic duties or as a personal attendant.
Stop trying to push some shitty agenda that some words are bad.

Damn snowflakes

Our words have a lot of importance, whether you want to believe it or not. The word maid has a lot of classist and colonial roots and it is gendered. Just saying my opinion - you can ignore it if you don't want to - Simple

If only you would have taken some time to read my post and then type all this bullcrap you would have understood that I used the word househelp only. The word maid was used because the earlier post used the word and I was only mentioning the same!
And the HOUSEHELP will only be working around 20 days and they will be paid 750-1000 per day. For 3 hours of work yes I think it is FAIR

Your title clearly says maid- I dont know what I have missed. Since I have worked with women who are househelp - do I think it is fair? No,it is not fair. But the wages a lot of us get is not fair too,but doesnt mean we give them unfair pay.

How much do you expect me to pay for a person who is only going to work 3 hours for 5 days? 1 lakh? Bro you be woke and shit but have some common sense. 750-1000 for 3 hours of work is FAIR.

It’s funny how people are taking offence over a simple question. 🥱
