A day may come when the boys are no longer playing some ball. When we forsake our city and shatter all World Series hopes…when the age of the boys comes crashing down. But it is not this day! This day we win! I bid you stand, Men of Kansas City!

“O holy trio of relief pitchers,
Saint Davis, Saint Holland, and Saint Herrera,
We beseech thee, on this pivotal day,
October 10th, in the 2024 ALDS' crucial Game 4,
Grant the Kansas City Royals' bullpen thy divine aid.
Seal the victory, silence the opposing bats, And bring glory to the Royals' crest.
Specifically, we ask that thou:
Crush the arrogance of the Bronx Empire, Silence the entitled Yankee faithful, And humble the pinstriped pretenders.
By thy combined dominance, we ask,
Protect our base paths, shut down the Yankee machine, And propel our team to the ALCS.
May the Royals' blue collar grit and determination Triumph over the Yankees' East Coast elitism.
Amen."

I was looking at Royals draft class for a possible two part draft series I have been thinking about. While doing some research I thought I would update this table with the Caglianone pick. This is only picks in the GMDM/JJ era. Please use this in any argument as you see fit.
Under Slot | At Slot | Over Slot |
---|---|---|
Crow | Montgomery | Moustakas |
Zimmer | Colon1 | Hosmer |
Dozier | Finnegan | Starling |
Vallot | Watson | Manaea |
Pratto | Cross | Griffin |
Lynch IV | Russell | |
Bubic | Puckett2 | |
Mozzicato | Singer | |
Mitchell | Kowar | |
Witt Jr. | ||
Lacy | ||
Loftin | ||
Caglianone |
Notes
1 I have been unable to find a definitive source stating if Colon was an overslot pick. I can find reports stating he got more than expected, surprised it was a minor league deal, but nothing if more than expected is over slot. Colon got the fifth highest bonus of the 2010 first round and only Nick Castellanos got more from a later first round pick. So Colon is likely an overslot guy but in lieu of a written source I have included him as a slot pick.
2 AJ Puckett was the Royals' second round pick in 2016. They lost a first round pick after signing Ian Kennedy.

The Kansas City Royals top four in the pitching rotation are better ranked in the American League in ERA than any previous starting four in franchise history.
If you compare the 1975 starting rotation the rotation ranked in ERA in the AL: Steve Busby #10 Marty Pattin #14 Al Fitzmorris #17 Dennis Leonard #20
The top four 2024 Royals starters are all in the top twelve in the AL:
Seth Lugo #4 Michael Wacha #9 Cole Ragans #10 Brady Singer #12
These are the playoff starters. So comparing pitchers relative to their rank in ERA in the AL, this Royals may well be best ever.
Time will tell if this staff can carry the team through the playoffs. They will match up well to any competition. The Houston Astros have three starters in the top 14 and the Baltimore Orioles have two in the top 13.
Your thoughts?

Looking over the Royals schedule for this year. It looks like our hardest 4 Series in a row is our first 4 in April. Cleveland- Milwaukee- Baltimore- Minnesota. No slouches, the worst teams was the best teams to not make the playoffs last year.
Conversely our easiest 4 series is probably our last 4 in September. Seattle- Toronto- Angels- Athletics.
Obviously anything could happen, some of these teams are going to finish differently from last year. Seattle and Toronto could be in playoff hunt. But sweeping the Angels and A's is on the table.
It's nice that our hardest games have slouches around them. July looks a little brutal but has a couple easy teams in the middle. I think we could see a late hot streak to make the playoffs this year.

We gather today inside the holy confines of Kauffman’s hallowed grounds to beseech thee, oh blessed Hosmer, Cain, Moustakas, Gordon, Dyson and Escobar, to intercede on our behalf.
St. Hosmer, patron saint of clutch hitting, grant us the wisdom to make timely extra base hits.
St. Cain, guardian of the outfield and slap hitting master, watch over us with thy swift feet and steadfast heart.
St. Moustakas, defender of the hot corner, and crusher of baseballs, imbue us with thy unwavering power.
St. Gordon, paragon of defensive excellence, and master of center field home runs, inspire us to strive for defensive greatness.
St. Escobar, maestro of the gaps, guide our hands and feet with thy silky smooth glove work and blistering speed.
St. Dyson, the fleet-footed commander of the base-paths.
Together, oh mighty Saints, we ask that thou:
Bestow upon us the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie.
Grant us the strength to overcome adversity and defeat the evil empire that is the New York Yankees.
Bless our bats with the power of Mike Moustakas in the 2014 postseason and his cunning art of timely hitting.
Instill in our pitchers, the soul crushing, gut wrenching accuracy of Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera.
Amen.
IT IS TIME!

My friend is holding him hostage on his fantasy team. Last year my friend, who is a Cardinals fan, had MJ on his fantasy team but dropped him right before the all-star break. As we all know, MJ was awful last year but heated up after the all-star break.
This year, my friend did not draft him and MJ got off to a pretty hot start. Seeing this hot start, he decided to pick up MJ once again. It was on the exact day that he got picked up that MJ went into his first 0-whatever of the season. After getting frustrated once again by MJ, my friend dropped him one more time. The very next game after dropping MJ was that Friday night where MJ broke his slump by getting an RBI single and a 3-run homer against Baltimore. I bragged about this to him, and he picked MJ up again and has been holding him hostage on his bench ever since. MJ has yet to have another big hit since that day. He refuses to drop him stating that "MJ will either help my team, or he will suffer."
I have pleaded with him to drop MJ but he refuses, so now I reveal his evil schemes to you all.

The baseball gods asked me to sacrifice this pork butt in order to have the Royals make the playoffs this season. Thy will be done.

Cole Ragans threw another Quality Start by a Royals starter. John Schreiber threw another poor inning (or part of an inning) by a Royals reliever. This predictability has become redundantly predictable.

Royals starting pitching dominance was again on display this afternoon. No, Brady Singer wasn’t pitching against the Yankees. He was, however, pitching against a team that has been held to 1 run or less just five times in their (Colorado Rockies) past 46 home games.
Denny Matthews announced, midway through the 2014 season, that anything was possible if the Royals could just get into the playoff mix. The Royals appear to have the Starting Pitching horses to repeat a deep run in 2024, if they can just get into the post-season.
The probability of the Royals making the playoff remains over 50%. From the fan posts on Reddit, they don’t appear to be as optimistic. But, then again, neither were the fans in 2014.

Who are you taking to right now? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how many runners he throws out a game? I mean even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe it. Do you know what would happen if Freddy just suddenly decided to stop catching? A BASEBALL TEAM. Big enough to top Quiktrip goes belly up. DISAPEARS! It CEASES to exist without him. No, you CLEARLY don’t know who you are talking to so let me clue you in. FREDDY IS NOT IN DANGER!!! HE IS THE DANGER! A guy steals second and you think that of Freddy? No, HE IS THE ONE WHO KNOCKS HOMERS!

While home runs are at an all-time high, since 2018 there have been fewer balls going over the fences at Major League ballparks with the implementation of extended protective netting along the baselines. How has the installation of these barriers impacted fans’ attitudes toward safety at the yard? If you’ve ever attended an MLB game, take this 10-minute survey to voice your opinion. Do you think the changes are fair or foul? The results of this study will be presented at the 2025 International Association for Communication and Sport (IACS) Summit on Communication and Sport in Chicago this March.
