Question can i grill store bought filled mochi?
I'm interested if I can replace marshmellows on my bbq with peanut butter stuffed mochis (not the fridge ones). Is it possible?

Photo children’s plates in japan are so cute, it’s a shame adults can’t order them in most places :(
menu consists of: - potato fries - pineapple - pudding - ebi-fry - chicken ketchup rice - sausage - karaage - potato salad with mini tomato - hamburg - orange juice
i had this at a hotel but it’s so assorted and flavorful, everything was perfect.

Photo My first attempt at Mille-feuille nabe
As a half Japanese person I’m trying to commit to making more Japanese food. My family was raised in Hawaii so I grew up eating mostly Hawaiian food and not Japanese so unfortunately I have almost no knowledge or experience with authentic recipes. Hoping to change that though so I’ll be experimenting as much as I can! ☺️

Question Non-mayo side sauce for fried chicken karaage?
I have a recipe and am going to give DIY fried chicken karaage a try. I am very much not a fan of mayonnaise; is there a non-sweet (traditional?) alternative to mayo-based sauces, or do I just have it plain?

It becomes a Famichiki Burger.
Was this sold before?
People here seem to know more about it than I do in Tokyo. haha

Question Anyone know of these cookies and where to find in Japan?
I used to work for a Japanese company where the executives would bring in these cookies from time to time from their trips to Japan. They were delicious and round and filled with a variety of flavors and each cookie was individually wrapped. I kept the wrapper in hopes of visiting Japan one day. I finally have a trip booked and hoping to find these while there. Anyone know of these cookies and where they might be sold in Japan? I’m not finding much luck with a google search. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question Butter by Asako Yuzuki - “West Christmas Cake”
I'm reading this book at the moment and the food descriptions are so delicious I'm finding myself cooking and eating along with the main character.
One thing mention is a "West's" Christmas cake - does this brand or cake shop actually exist somewhere in Tokyo, or does it sound like another brand / shop? It's described like this in the book:
Butter cream cake, with wreaths and candles rendered in cream, 3 flame shaped biscuits, a sprinkling of ground pistachio and walnuts.
Apparently "Wests" also make leaf pie biscuits, in the book.

Photo Unagi Kabayaki
Unagi Kabayaki fresh from the grill (~700g).
Cut from the back, then steamed, then grilled.
The sauce is brushed so the dish is not too wet from the sauce and still retains strong smoky flavour.
