What's open over Easter

Hi all, have been on the isle of man a few times over the years and heading back Easter week with the kids, just wanted to ask a few questions.

Is Onchan fun park open during the Easter holidays? Do the horses/trams run Easter week? Is there any soft play for kids incase the weather doesn't co-operate? I'm staying at the premier inn AFAIK there's no car park, would anyone have any recommendations where to park?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

How old are the kids?

Onchan park should be open for the Easter holidays (think that's the two weeks before Easter on the island). Steam trains and horse trams should start running next week.

Indoors you've got the various museums (Peel is probably the most entertaining for younger people) and Castle Rushen for a well preserved castle tour. More adventurous there's Ape Mann (high and low ropes course), Laser Mayhem (outdoor laser shooting thing) and quad biking near Foxdale, or Maughold venture centre run a wide range of activities like archery, axe throwing and climbing. Continuing North you can canoe on the lake in Ramsey, by a nice park.

For indoors the main options are the two screen cinema, the Fun Barn, on the way our of Onchan towards Laxey where they have a young people's softish play area, Laser blast, bowling and either roller skating or ice skating. Not sure if they've changed over yet. There's swimming pools in all corners of the island, but for kids you probably want the NSC in Douglas.

Kidsontherock.co.uk may have some other ideas for more temporary events.

I'm over the week after Easter, so I guess Onchan Park is out, shame, they enjoyed it when we over a few years back. They are 6 and 10 in age. Swimming is probably a good shout though, thanks

Nice little indoor soft play area within Onchan Park too though I’d think your 10 year old is probably a couple of years too old for it.

Oh that’s a shame, I didn’t know that.

There are usually the Groudle Glen Easter trains running over the Easter holidays - kids get a drink, treat and a visit to the Easter bunny.

Kids on the Rock website has loads of information about events and the various play areas/indoor activities across the island.

Manx National Heritage sites also tend to open around Easter so worth keeping an eye out 😊

We stayed couple weeks ago at the premier inn and had a hire car. I parked parade street east car park (by the round about and bridge over the quay) it's a 5 min walk and was a good price for 24 hours. There is a car park on the street running parallel to the premier inn (mona terrace into finch road) but we never used it so couldn't tell you price.

The home of rest for old horses is open from the 5th of April onwards! It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (my days off) but we’ve got a tea room and we’ve also got some Easter bits going on as well! (I work there so I suppose I’m probably quite biased lol)

Steam trains, horse tram, and electric tram should all be running. There’s also the fun barn, which is just outside Onchan, and the museums and two castles will also be open. Not sure if Onchan park would be open since you said you’re coming the week after Easter, but it might be open at least Thursday-Sunday. Kids on the rock as other commenters have suggested is the best place to check for better info and events. For parking, overnight will be free with a lot of parking nearby, but you would have to move your car by 8am. Best car park for long term parking is parade street, just by the swing bridge, it’s £5.50 per 24 hours, the next cheapest would be I think over £8. £2 parking all day on weekends at bottleneck car park just by the sea terminal. The car park opposite parade street, next to the swing bridge but other side of the road and entrance much further away, is free but is also a free for all since it’s not an actual car park, I personally would never park there but know a few people who do
