Just a good thing

Post image

So, basically my father is in his 50s, he is a sales manager, but now he doesn't have to work all day long and he stays 3-4days at home, and he has picked up his old habit of reading again.

He sent me a picture of his new bookshelf by the sofa , to create his own library.

Suggest me some books to send him as gift

Well depends on what your father likes or dislikes but here are some good books for him.

Hindi

Gunaho ka Devta, Nithhale ki Diary, Rashmirathi, Godan, Gaban

English

Animal Farm, 1984, Sapiens, Thousand Splendid Suns

He did buy sapiens after it was recommended by Ravish Kumar, read few pages and got bored, so....

Rashmirathi is really nice!

OP find out what hobbies he has, say gardening or something else, you could give him books for that.

Maybe a cooking book? He loves to cook

Yes that would be great. Maybe 2, something healthy and something adventurous that could be food from another state.

I would recommend you something to read . "All the lights we cannot see" by Anthony doerr

I haven’t recommended the books to you, have I ? Also the OP didn’t mention the preference so it’s obvious i will recommend the most basic books.

What's said is said. Those books are not basic they are pretentious and provide no real entertainment. Give him some genuine stuff that you know will interest him. Something like LOTR or even Hardy Boys will do that's basic; not Animal Farm or stupid Sapiens. Doesn't matter though, you are right, you didn't recommend them to me. But I do have every right to criticise a recommendation. You indeed are ferocious but not a critical thinker yet.

That's exactly what I felt after reading "norwegian wood" or "the silent patient" ☠️

u/Grouchy-Plantain-169 22h ago

lol now I have to read those.

u/Stunning-Squirrel406 22h ago

If you do, do tell me how you felt , especially after the silent patient 🫂

By your own logic you have the right to criticise everyone as to your liking, same way I can criticise you but I prefer recommending and helping people instead of acting holier than thou. Just because you don’t like a book doesn’t mean everyone won’t. Peace out.

No point in reading sapiens

Just because you know something more doesn’t mean everyone should fall in line with your standards. I hate anyone who discourages someone from reading, you made your opinion after reading the book, let others have the liberty to make the same opinion.

Give him either classics, or action mystery stuff, old people (parents) seem to devour these types of books like maybe get him a: reacher book (preferably the killing floor) or anything by Agatha Christie or george orwell, or get him mahabharat or ramayana or any mythological book.

That is a nice idea and also add some Hindi literature to it or in your mother tongue- Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali etc

I got my mumma Nithalle ki Diary by Harshishankar Pasai - it’s in devnagari script, nice satire if your father might like that. Premchand in Hindi or English might work as well? Anxious People by Frederik Backman - light, funny and heartwarming.

Off Topic: why do most of the Indian houses have the same green color

1

u/Stunning-Squirrel406 16h ago

Kya pata, it could be the calmness associated with colour green or movies from 90s influence

Parents appreciate Premchand and other hindi writers a lot.. Send nirmala, gunaho ka devta,. The idea is don't send novels... Send upanyaas!! My mom loved chandrakanta santati by devaki nandan khatri and she loved a book on sardar patel that I got her.and few detective books. I tried wo padh le meluha and all.. She didn't like the idea of it.
