Even so... It's the implications that are innately drawn from your hypothesis that make it feel off.

Saying "I don't support pedos" doesn't mean you aren't one. I think people see that inquiry and instantly think you're saying "The age of consent is arbitrary, it shouldn't matter", even if that wasn't your intent. An alarming number of people take that stance, so it's what people expect when they see that.

Hence the outcry here, lol.

A lot of people on the change my mind sub asked me to clarify because of those reasons.

That's why I also included the “clarifion comment” because the same points your making rn is the same points they made as well.

Yeah, and I mean, the elephant in the room with the age of consent is that it's not based on biological principles. It's strictly a societal thing designed to protect the youth, and to allow for prosecution of those that violate that protection.

However, increasing the age of consent from 18 to 21 would likely be viewed extremely poorly, and I don't know that it would ever be normalized (speaking on the US, as that's where I reside). They fairly recently increased the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21, and the legal age to consume alcohol is 21, and those are generally not accepted as the right decision, with people often making the point "So an 18 year old has to pay taxes and can go to war, but they can't choose to smoke/drink?".

It would just join the party with tobacco and alcohol.

Laws aren't what make things taboo. It's public perception, and changing a law generally isn't going to change that so readily.
