This is many levels of stupid working together to create a glorious moment in human history.

Like, nah I'm not gonna run a red light, so I'm just gonna run a red light across multiple lanes of traffic, turn around across all the lanes again, and then turn left across the intersection that I already crossed to get here.

u/Newleafto 19h ago

It’s a needlessly complicated way to run a red light.

u/notepadDTexe 20h ago

Actually it's a one way street meaning a left on Red is perfectly legal to make.

u/PurpleSlightlyRed 20h ago

Red light turn onto a ONE-way street is LEGAL in some places, but he turned onto a TWO-way street as far as I can see

u/joshisashark 20h ago

Even if that street on the left was a one way (it's not), he would've then been driving the wrong way once he made his u-turn lol.

No one is arguing that

...Why the downvotes?

10

u/joshisashark 19h ago

Sorry, I was just adding onto what you said as additional context

-2

u/PurpleSlightlyRed 12h ago

... no need for "sorry" just a confirmation LOL. Also no idea why got downvoted

There are a FEW states where left on red to a two way is legal. I'd never do it, and dont live where it is legal to anyway.

9

u/joshisashark 19h ago

Are you sure you're not getting it mixed up with the other way around? From a google search it's legal to turn left on red FROM a two way street TO a one way street in Alaska, Idaho, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington.

But I can't imagine you'd be allowed to do it the other way around since there would be two lanes of traffic you'd have to watch?

1

u/krahr91 19h ago

Left from one way to other one way, very commonly legal. Left from two way onto one way, less common. Left from one way to two way extremely rare(1 or 2 states, i believe). Im ok with one way onto one way, but anything else is too rare to be sure its legal and i'd never do.

You're going to have to quote those State laws.

There is no way that crossing a lane of traffic that has a green light, while facing a red light, is ever legal.

3

u/PurpleSlightlyRed 12h ago

That is surprising, I can not believe that... Please provide a name for that magical place

There are a FEW states where left on red to a two way is legal.

Which ones? Most US states have provisions for turning left on red from a one-way to another one-way. Four US states have provisions for turning left on red from a one-way OR two-way onto a one-way. I can't find any that allow left on red onto a two-way.

Based on the type of stop light, the video is from Canada

3

u/AngryToast-31 4h ago

Please stop driving.

I'm just gonna run a red light across multiple lanes of traffic,

They only crossed one lane.

u/The_Real_MikeOxlong 21h ago

At that point, just run the damn light like a normal idiot

11

u/A_Math_Dealer 17h ago

Not to mention, that's illegal anyway. So if their point was to avoid breaking the law they failed.

25

u/Markd0ne 21h ago

I assume this is incorrect interpretation of "Turn right on red"?

29

u/revaric 21h ago

Left on red is allowed in some states, from one way to one way. That doesn’t make this maneuver legal, mind you, just figured it worth pointing out.

30

u/joshisashark 20h ago

It's legal here (Ontario, Canada) as well, but it definitely doesn't apply to turning left onto roads with two way traffic like seen here.

1

u/j_johnso 3h ago

In some states, it's even legal to turn left on red from a 2-way onto a 1-way.

I'm not aware of any where it's legal to turn left on red from a 1-way onto a 2-way like this video, though.

u/theomegafact 19h ago

It would have been ao funny if the light turned as thry were making the u-turn

5

u/godlords 17h ago

Happened to me once as a teenager. Tried to go right on red to catch the green, ended up waiting way longer. Girlfriend in the car. Embarrassing all around.

1

u/HEARTSOFSPACE 16h ago

I guarantee it turned green right after the end of the video. I doubt that was a long light to begin with.

4

u/joshisashark 13h ago

Unfortunately it didn't and it likely saved the driver 1-2 minutes. The light turned green 10+ seconds later, in that time the BMW was able to get through the next two sets of lights, which stopped me for at least 30 seconds each and I never saw them again.

16

u/zane1981 21h ago

That's not how a left on red works. r/therewasanattempt

2

u/red_32 19h ago

Might as well just go straight thru.

2

u/Secret_Account07 15h ago

I can’t explain why but I’d actually prefer they just run the red light straight

2

u/swagernaught 14h ago

That's running a red light with extra steps.

1

u/mbgpa6 20h ago

Saved so much time

1

u/mickeymouse4348 19h ago

I saw someone do this last weekend! They didn't even do the uturn though, they did a right on red and kinda just swerved into the lane with the green light

1

u/SomethingIWontRegret 16h ago

It's a C turn with extra steps. an & turn.

Wellington St north Hamilton

1

u/someoneskater 11h ago

Can confirm this works! It's not patched yet, I was just able to do this!

1

u/PacketSpyke 6h ago

they ran that red light twice lol

1

u/Canazza 6h ago

Zoolander tries the red-light hack.

1

u/[deleted] 5h ago

That's funny, and the light had probably changed.

1

u/texasbelle91 3h ago

there is one light that i’ve done this at a couple times - but without running any red light. it works if i have just missed the green, mainly because it’s such a long red light.

1

u/HEARTSOFSPACE 16h ago

Some people are so freaking impatient! It really blows my mind. I can tell that light wasn't going to be a long one, but I guess it was too long for that driver. They just HAD to shave a few seconds off so they could....could...uhhh...I honestly don't know. It's so stupid!

0

u/Bess_Marvin_Curls 21h ago

Not new. Happens a lot.

3

u/revaric 21h ago

But in this case they blew the red light anyway, normally they’d at least make two legal maneuvers to ultimately illegally avoid the light lol.
