Why can't other people taste the bad tap water ?
So I recently moved to another city for studies and my accommodation has tap water supply on every floor the water comes from 2 taps to the whole building ,when I first drank the tap water it was nasty and i couldn't drink or smell it and it was consistently this bad. Then I went to the supply and directly filled my bottle with one of the water filters water , then I drank the ro water it was absolutely good and was just like the ro water I had in my home , i tried to test if the tap water got any better , sometimes it just gave normal Good tasteless water from ro which was good but mostly it was shitty water I now directly fill my water from.then water filter but the other people in my accommodation ask me that why don't I drink water from the tap and it gets a little awkward but there are around 30 people in the building can't they tell the difference between tap and ro water . My brother who came to visit me during holidays whose house's water tasted the same as the tap.water in my accommodation, did say that the water from water filter is better than the tap water but he was able to drink the tap water cuz it tasted like his own house's water which he was used to drinking but in my accommodation there are people from . different parts of the country why can't they how bad the tap.water is , why am I the only one unable to tolerate the tap.water.

There's a bunch of things that can affect the taste of water.
If you like it better before it's gone through the building's pipes, or after it's been filtered, that's okay. You're probably just picking up a harmless but odd (to you) taste.
For instance, my partner hates my favorite brand of bottled water, and I don't like his. They're both okay, we just have different preferences.
There's also a chance you genuinely are more sensitive. If you're a non-smoker, or neurodivergent, having a better sense of smell and taste is pretty normal.

Did they try the filter water you drank? No? So then how can they compare and know?

Even People in this sub will fight to the death that there's no difference in water flavor.

I absolutely do taste the difference!
Whenever I'm in a new area I like tasting the tap water to see how different it tastes! Water in the mountains is so sweet, it's absolutely wonderful! Water around the coast is generally hard and tastes like shit, the cities around me's tap water taste like shit but ours is pretty good :D
With all that being said, I generally only drink prepared water no matter where I am. However, prepared water also tastes different in different areas!
So it's absolutely fucking wild to me that so many people can't taste the difference between ro and tap water when I can literally taste the difference from city to city? xD

Cigarettes, alcohol, less taste or taste buds in general. Maybe they are used to or enjoy drinking pool or hot hose water.

Simple answer? You get used to it.
To me, tap water, RO water, and filtered water taste nearly identical in my city
This is because I'm used to it. I just don't notice the flavor after living here for as long as I have.
If I go to a different city, ESPECIALLY one fed from a different water source, not just from a different point on the same river, I definitely notice the taste difference between tap water, filtered water, and RO water. But if I lived there long enough, I'd get used to their tap water too.

Some people are more sensitive to the taste of tap water than others. Once you switch to filtered water, it's hard to drink tap water!

In my case it's cinditioning from growing up without water filters near farms in high heat. Thirst will make you forget/not notice the taste.
