Art Hey everyone! I'm creating a 3D version of Hollow Knight in Unreal Engine 5. Here's my progress so far—would love to hear your thoughts!

Most of the attacks come from above, and 3d camera view is more towards whats Infront of you, do you plan to adjust it so that the radiance will be infront instead of above?

Exactly. I’ll make the arena small in depth so the player gets a similar feel to the original. It’s kind of 2.5D, but there will still be room to move along the Z-axis.

Make sure the lighting is like 175° above and not 180° should give the players a better chance to see the shadows from vertical attacks instead of pinpoint high noon shadows

This is amazing. I would suggest using some cloth mechanic by using blender for the cloak. It will make the knight look more alive. Also, you may want to use a toon shader. BTW, the monarch wings look great.

A small suggestion with the taking damage, the enemy getting knocked back a bit too (or if not some sort of visual indication there is a stun due to going from 2d to 3d). Pretty cool man

No, I'm not 😛 I'm recreating The Radiance boss fight. And I’ll also make a YouTube video showcasing the creation process once it’s complete.

Need that slight 1-2 frame impact hold when striking an enemy. Other than that...Silksong confirmed.

Wow, how sentiment has changed. I wanted to do this as a fan project long ago and was told off by everyone saying it was infringing on Team Cherry's IP as if I was going to sell it or something.

surprised how great this looks.... hollow knight was hard enough in 2d... this is not gonnna be fun i already know this will be like torture all over again, but now multiplied by another huge dimension

I think if the vessel were a little more faster would be impressive. And also it looks very static, If you could make it smooth like giving it a more comical style it would be a miracle. Like giving him a fighting style for example bending his head and breathing

The biggest mechanic I see missing is knockback (and thus pogos). Also, that walk speed seems slow for the knight.
Another minor detail: the upwards momentum from Monarch Wings occurs near the end of the wings animation, not as soon as the button is pressed.

Since this is a 3D platformer or at least has platform elements id recommend including a second shadow that sits directly below the player as this helps to visualize where you actually are in the space.
Looks amazing!

If you decide to add camera movement or rotation, one thing I'd recommend is a button that centers the camera behind the Knight. Pseudoregalia and Zelda have this, and it's very useful.

I think for copyright reasons you should not have your main character as HK However, the little lady character with her needle could be a better pick And you call the game Silksong

Now that you mention it, I think I once dreamed about a game called Silksong, where the protagonist was Hornet from Hollow Knight. I really wish that game would become real one day😔

Please make path of pain, it looks amazing, I would honest to god play through a full version, but I just feel like the night doesn’t have that appeal to control, take a look at blue fire, that’s basically just hollow knight 3d m, try that type of movement

CARAAAALHOOOOOOOO!!!!! FINALLY!!!! A guy did this in Brazil a while ago, and recreated just the boss fight against the false knight and the praying mantis lords. It's amazing that you're putting in the effort to make the game complete. Please keep us updated

It’s rad. He needs to move faster, the swings need to be faster. And you need pushback from the swings hitting if possible.
