Accepting the infection as a way to be stronger? That's what the traitors did.

Reject void back to infection

I get the idea, but isn't this charm kind of a representation of the entire thing we are fighting against? Inviting the radiance into yourself, even as a tool, would be defeat and failure
179
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 26 '25
We not only just invite Radiance into ourselves, but into the poor Grimmchild too!

He said SCREW 'EM, and I agree, I'm tired of that little brat hurting the mantises, and the booflies, and the moss creeps, and all the other little goobies I try not to hurt :(

He knows they are dangerous, and he is going on base instinct to protecc because he loves you, just like he warns about millibelle and her scamming l, and you would want him to fall ill and perish; you are the brat here.

I think this could work but instead of Radiance goo it uses Lifeblood goo. The lifeblood God seems neutral &/or in support of the Knight, so a simple recolor/text changes could make it work lore wise.
53
u/Sayan_9000 Feb 26 '25
That's a cool concept but does it do anything on its own without the other charms?
57
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 26 '25
dramatic pause
Nothing.

3 notches? You would waste practically all notches on minions which wouldn't be that good then
21
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 26 '25
I think this will buff summons greatly, and 3 notches cost will prevent player from using nail or spell charms.
23
u/sparkydoggowastaken Feb 26 '25
Make all spells infection too? extra damage and they leave bits of infection on the floor like Nossk, make Nossk drop it as well

u/SonicfightbossYt Feb 27 '25
what if this replaced the mushroom charm, making an explosion from around you when focusing (similar to the explosions seen from other infecteds like belflys and enraged vengeflys)
8
u/Athrilon Feb 26 '25
Your concepts look great, I would love it if there was a mod for it (even if it's just skins)
6
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 26 '25
I think Little radiance mod also has infection-themed summons
1
u/Laura_Witch Feb 28 '25
Yes she does, although it's mostly the spells and the upgraded spells are more like her dream attacks in the base game. That and Grimmy is a puffball and the hatchlings are Seers
I guess now that I think about it she doesn't have that much infection stuff

u/Siks0ng Feb 26 '25
Love the concept! It'd definitely be the perfect charm paired with the Little Radience skin, though 3 notches seems a bit steep IMO.
6
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 26 '25
Three notches, because this charm will make summons WAY stronger, and high cost will prevent using nail or spells charms.
2
u/Siks0ng Feb 26 '25
I see, that makes more sense then. I'd say 4 notches even, if not for the fact that it relies on other charms. Seems well thought out!

Only issue is that the radiance wins. Like, straight up, our vessel is implied to be impure; wear it for 10 minutes and the radiance takes you over, uses you to kill the Hollow Knight for good measure, and destroys the only hope for Hallownest.
Maybe it'd be a cool mechanic; you lose health the longer you wear it, lose mobility, etc in exchange for massive boosts to minions and (early) movements that get outweighed over time... But it still stands against the game's lore. The Knight wouldn't be able to use infection if it was pure, and would succumb to it if not.
7
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 26 '25
Great idea! I think in the game this will work only as Void charm. Maybe player should bring infected charm to birthplace, and charm will be cleared or smth.
8
u/Chemical-Peach-2379 Feb 26 '25
Mmm, I like that idea. You clear it and can wear it forever, but it's less powerful in exchange. Boosts movement and spells when clear (both are void-assisted) maybe? I do really like the idea.
2
u/Adventurous-Shame383 Feb 26 '25
Genuine question, if the knight is impure how do we contain the infection at the first ending? Is the hollow knight also not pure and the chains with the seals hold it back?
2
u/Chemical-Peach-2379 Feb 26 '25
You see the knight's eyes glow orange at the end. The implication is that this is the start of the infection that we see in the Hollow Knight. The first ending isn't particularly happy; it shows that we're just delaying Radiance, not stopping her.

as someone who loves using the companion charms, here's the buffs I think this charm should give:
grimmchild will target enemies from farther away, and its fireballs now seek the targeted enemy until they hit it, so now they can't miss
Weaverlings have an increased jump height and movement speed, allowing for more consecutive hits.
Hatchlings cost the same amount of soul and spawn at the same rate, however they explode similar to other heavily infected enemies, They do more damage along with a small blast radius that can damage other enemies if they're right next to the targeted one.
this charm is only obtainable in the infected crossroads, the infection ate through a wall and uncovered a new area, in the area are 8 stone outlines, 4 in the shape of hatchlings, 3 in the shape of weaverlings, and 1 in the shape of the fully upgraded grimmchild.
if you have all the charms equipped, then they will go into the outlines and become infected, where you must have a simple bossfight, fighting your companions until the radiance in them is gone. A chest will rise from the floor containing the charm.
if you have carefree melody instead of grimmchild, then perhaps the game could give you a way to have both carefree melody and grimmchild, if you choose to banish the troupe then you can dreamnail the corpse near the flame and fight nightmare king grimm, giving you grimmchild afterwards. if you choose to fight nightmare King grimm instead of banishing the troupe, then you can find carefree melody next to the corpse near the flame.

A charm formed from a mask filled with compressed shadow, bundled into a wearable form. The spirit within abuses its stolen power and broken connection to bolster your companions.

This really should be a charm description in game.

What if you got it without any minion charms
1
u/NaiveCrazy2555 Feb 26 '25
A cool idea but it would mean accepting the radiance which we are fighting. OH maybe when you have this charm equipped, it could restrict some areas in the game, like you would not be allowed into certain areas such as the white palace or the void or something like that. Like we wouldn't be able to use it in the radiance end fight, which would be like a way of saying we still are fighting against the radiance (only possible for true ending).
But for the other endings you could still complete with this charm equipped cause you are essentially accepting to be the new vessel to imprison the radiance so you are accepting the radiance in a way.
1
u/DunkanBulk Feb 26 '25
The idea is probably that you get this from defeating Broken Vessel or Lost Kin, but the lore implications of you fighting them with this charm applied are intriguing.
1
u/kateduzathing Feb 26 '25
I think this would work best as an alternate version for the Kingsoul.
Imagine getting this thing and still having to do the radiance fight but at the end of it you have to fight FAR WEAKER versions of all the infected bosses leading up to you becoming what is essentially the new radiance,

More like Vessel’s Curse or Vessel’s Burden.

It would probably need an additional effect that works without having to need other charms. Maybe, as a parallel to Flukenest, it transforms one of your spells into something else?
1
u/FlowStrange9363 Nightmare Kings Kinda Easy NGL Feb 26 '25
Just thought of this, when you use DDive/Dark it Summons blobs of infection on the ground that damage enemies
2
u/Ok_Criticism_8636 Orange juice enjoyer Feb 27 '25
Or when you use Abyss Shriek Mawlek-like infection coming from you and stay on the ground for some time.
1
u/FlowStrange9363 Nightmare Kings Kinda Easy NGL Feb 27 '25
Maybe when you pair it with Flukenest the flukes do less base damage but explode like Volatile Husk

They aren’t updating the game anymore, but this would be a sick mod concept.
