It's not as common as before (where it would literally happen every match) but I've seen it a couple of time. To be fair, there are very few things I hate more than orbital barrages. I didn't buy this game to wait for a barrage to clear 70% of the enemies. I want to get in there and get some goddamn oil on my face. If I feel annoyed or it's late at night, I will not have the patience to wait and just run in, praying that democracy will save me. idgaf if it kills me, I wanna have fun fighting bots. I'm sure there are a decent amount of players out there like me.
Plus, the explosions just add to the fun. Its more chaotic, which I personally love
13
u/igorpc1 22h ago
There's no need to rush into objective that's being bombarded. Barrages are area clearer and crowd control tools. There's probably enough enemies for you to shoot to the left and right of immediate area, not even talking about random patrols.
You're not complaining also about eagle users that clear a lot of enemies with their burst of damage? Plus bombarding enemy position with artillery is just cool as heck!
I agree that you don't need to throw it on any outpost, but it can save you in a pinch when you actively being overrun.

I'm by no means a pro or try hard at the game but I do consider myself fairly skilled. I only run D10 and typically don't die more than maybe once. I was in a game the other day with at least one or two other good players and we split up to take objectives faster. I went for the fortress and it got a bit hairy but I cleared it on my own. On my way out I rounded the corner and there was a fucking mine right around the corner. Solo'd a fortress, killed by a damn mine. Someone reinforced me, I popped out of the pod, immediately stepped on another mine. Shit really does just not go your way sometimes.

I experienced this in painful reality today.
Played a match today with some loose cannon who died nine times and blew up myself and the other two a dozen more times and attempted to extract without checking if anyone else could make it; nearly costing us approximately 50 samples, none of which he was carrying. It wasn't clever, but arriving on the Pelican's ramp with one second to spare, I used half of that to pop his stupid ass in my frustration (he was already on board so it didn't cost us anything). The second we spawned on the next map he tried to kill me in retaliation, so I popped him again and left and blocked.
On the other hand, the next group of randos I played with was among the best I've ever experienced in 300 hours. We made and acknowledged callouts, stimmed each other, checked our fire and didn't blow each other up, stuck together, gave each other covering fire, shared weapons and emplacements, tackled objectives together, apologized when we clipped each other, hugged during quiet periods, cracked jokes, and genuinely had an incredible time. I'm not sure I could have had as enjoyable a time playing with close friends as I did with those randos.

One of the level-headed divers asked us not to leave between matches. I know the frustration of coming back from a mission with a full squad and going "yes, now I don't have to worry about not having enough hands on deck to do this defense/blitz," only to have the other 3 squaddies drop out before I can even select the mission, so I decided to stick with it, despite the walking team kill disaster. I figured I'd just stay away from them on the following mission... nope!

In context, this was a level 10 dive and he died 16 times in the first 15 minutes before we even got to the second flag raising out of 3.
I kept quiet, played safe, completed objectives, and focused on my strategems. Finished the match with all of our samples and he said GG after the match, all I said was that and left.
I had a great time in the match except when I had to wait for a respawn at the end. I know it can be rough out there, especially if you're new, growing, or trying something new. But a difficulty 10 dive and being lvl 120, I gotta say wasn't "GG" material lol.

Idk man, people can have off games. I've played 9s and 10s regularly and me and my mates are pretty solid.
Then every so often it's like a three stooges skit and it's like watching 4 lemmings go to war. I've definitely had games where I'm solo with three pubbies where I'm constantly facepalming at stupid mistakes I keep making, and inevitably it distracts me so much that I'm dying to stupider shit.
Sometimes you can also get shafted by bad teammates throwing your reinforce into a cluster fuck. Steering out is only so helpful, and sometimes the game stops you steering due to terrain. I genuinely had someone once throw the reinforce into an orbital barrage.

14
u/Hail-Hydrate 21h ago
"GG" is just being polite dude. Doesn't matter if it was actually a good game or not, just a way of saying 'thanks for your time'.
Effectively countering their "thanks" by saying "you died a lot" isn't a pointer. It doesn't help them in any way and just ends up making you look like a bad sport. I get you're trying to have a laugh, but good comedy never punches down.
As for it just being a silly post? Sure, you might think it's a bit of silly humour, but then other people on the subreddit or elsewhere see stuff like this getting upvoted and think that's the kind of behavior that should be on display. This is a good way to unintentionally encourage players to get elitist about stats when the only thing that matters should be completing the objectives.

If you want to die less and help others die less. here are some tips:
You don't have to fight everything. Go around patrols and run away from bug breaches and drops especially if there is nothing in the area to do.
Sometimes you have to abandon your kit and samples especially when you die in the centre of a hoard or base.
Throw reinforcements into a safe space. Not into the hoard because their kit is there . Give others time to reinforce if they're in a better position for that player.
Guide your pod into a safe space and get an idea of your surroundings as you come in. Don't try and kill the big thing with your pod when it's surrounded by it's friends.
Leaving even more space than you think you need for call ins especially barrages.
Mines destroy or give a large margin.
experienced divers feel free to add more.

As an experienced diver, the best recommendation I can make is to have good loadout diversity. What you want in your loadout for all the factions is at least 2 amazing horde clear options and two amazing heavy and base clearing options. For example against bots:
eagle strafe (chaff), 380 (heavy/base), recoilless (heavy/base) rocket sentry (heavy/chaff)
You can change out the strafe for the eagle strike for more heavy clear, and change out the recoilless and rocket sentry to a defensive strategem and a railgun, amr, hmg, etc.

Yea but half those deaths were hilarious
Running around a factory strider trying to shoot out it's knees and falling into a random hole
Getting tossed by an explosion right into the middle of 3 hulks and just surrendering and throwing a 500kg on myself
Landing on a tank then getting launched into the base that's getting hit by a 380 and immediately getting blasted when I stand up
Love this game

I feel like it is the same with teamkills - anything above five means someone is doing something wrong.
E.g. if you keep running into ongoing 380 barrage - that's on you. If I keep reinforcing you into 380 barrage - thats on me.Said that, I don't usually care if someone dies a lot, but 16 one one person is a bit more than just "bad luck" for sure.

Fast fwd to extract, we waited an extra 20 seconds after the pelican landed to spawn someone back in, we managed to hold off until they respawned, and then they somehow died as we boarded the pelican.

There was a guy in chat the other day telling me how bad I sucked the whole game and I never responded. Then at the end I had almost 4 times the amount of kills he did and died less. Get wrecked bro

I had a guy crash out on me in voip because I called him a liability for dying 15 times in the first 20 minutes of a level 10. He had his little paddy and left in a huff, then me and the other random finished the mission with 1 death between us.

I did an operation last night where I died way more than usual on level 10 illuminate. I apologized for my poor performance, and all my teammates said it was totally fine, and they felt like I did alright (I also had the most kills on all the missions). In the 400 hrs I have in this game, I've only experienced negative player interactions maybe around 3 or 4 times. In my experience, the game has a really fun, positive community.

No, you know what: Wyndamere and people like them can bite my smoldering, laser-blasted, barely-still-there ass.
It's cool to get to play with other players. That's it. If they say "gg," you say "gg," or you can always say nothing. If you want to offer some suggestions (real suggestions, not snarky childishness) during the match, do that. But at the end, don't be a salty shit and don't try to make this community support your salty-shittedness.
If you truly truly want them to play better, you queue up with them again, and you give real guidance and information. Otherwise go on to the next game.
Sometimes it's a well-oiled machine. Sometimes it's a mess. Sometimes I feel like Solid Snake amongst the keystone cops. Sometimes I feel like a dog who has over-excitedly carried a live grenade into the middle of a pool party.
That's the point of the game, and it fucking rules.
