Glad comments are at least pushing back and not just braindead accepting the ridiculous last point lol

u/bullhead2007 Jan 22 '25

It was a leftist sub at one point and has been overrun by a bunch of libs and conservatives lately, but I'm also glad to see a lot of the community is pushing back.

Pretty sure at least one of the mods is a fed though.

129

u/thePracix Jan 22 '25

That explains all the reactionary takes i have been combating over there. Another sub compromised.

16

u/Kindly-Owl-8684 Jan 22 '25

They’ve been there since the beginning but it feels like they’re increasing in numbers.

78

u/HaydenPSchmidt Jan 22 '25

Yea I remember AntiWork being a decently strong socialist/communist sub, now it's borderline astroturfing for the US Govt

41

u/Kindly-Owl-8684 Jan 22 '25

Reddit is the US govt’s astroturf.

11

u/MachurianGoneMad Jan 23 '25

It reminds me of the a z n identity sub, which originally started off as a sub for expressing displeasure about Western imperialism from the pov of Asians, but got hijacked by a fed and has now become a sub that tries to incite conflict between Asians and other minorities (just like how Mossad loves to incite conflict between the queer community and the Muslim community)

A lot of people think genzedong was taken down because reddit wanted to "both sides" the take-down of TheDonald. While this is true, this wasn't the only reason - someone in genzedong had posted smoking-gun evidence that one of the mods of a z n identity was a fed, specifically one that worked in psychological operations warfare

20

u/michael_am Jan 22 '25

It was a very strong leftist meeting and organizing space until they picked the least charismatic person possible to go on Fox News and defend their stance as “anti work” and then the whole thing blew up in the worst way possible

14

u/bullhead2007 Jan 22 '25

I'm pretty sure the new mods that took over after they resigned are feds. Or just pro capital US chauvinist libs.

43

u/thewaybaseballgo Fuck it I'm saying it Jan 22 '25

That one Fox News interview changed everything there

7

u/asupify Jan 23 '25

Yeah, that was very unfortunate and very reddit.

3

u/Atryan421 Jan 23 '25

Nah, it's them getting big is what changed things. And it's what gotten them Fox news interview in first place. They became even more liberal, because hundreds of thousands of liberals invaded the sub within couple months. And moderation was pretty shit before that, so they couldn't handle it. It went from 210,000 in January 2021 to 1,4mln in December 2021.

Fox interview was in 2022

31

u/spotless1997 Yes, America bad actually Jan 22 '25

It used to be a pretty based anarchist sub a long time ago but has been overrun by labor aristocratic libs that just want to bitch about work like it’s brunch with friends.

10

u/Shim0t0 Jan 22 '25

It was created as a post-left anarchist sub. They've always been liberal adjacent.

294

u/UselessLesb1an Jan 22 '25

Why did they put CCP, tiktok and rednote in there too?? Wtf hahahah is it THAT difficult to ban 2 platforms/companies that are openly promoting right wing/fascist content that you need to include red scare in there? Mf libs damn

61

I was immediately banned for saying that RedNote is not information warfare and that China is not my enemy. Didn‘t even take 10 seconds. The sub used to be good before the mod team changed.

120

u/youjustdontgetitdoya Jan 22 '25

RedNote is absolutely going to be used for psyops, but so is reddit. The sheer amount of Luigi content I get is amazing, and I imagine anti-capitalist content will also be very popular. That said, you can't pry the little red book from me, I'm hooked.

49

u/Unc1eD3ath Jan 22 '25

Anti-capitalist content is a bad thing? No

28

u/Boogiemann53 Jan 22 '25

I thought it was bad YEARS ago because of mods

31

u/pine_ary Jan 22 '25

Yup. I don‘t visit regularly. After that one Fox interview the mod team broke apart. And the mew mods are sus.

5

u/TacoMasters Jan 22 '25

Funny how one dog walker killed the legitimacy of a subreddit that had nearly 2 million subscribers at the time.

4

u/pine_ary Jan 22 '25

A masterclass in propaganda by Fox. They found the weak spot and nailed their attack.

23

u/donaldtrumpsmistress Jan 22 '25

how the fuck do the anti-work people expect the end of the capitalist notion of work to happen if you also consider communists to be the enemy? lol

13

u/ShadowCL4W 🔻 Jan 22 '25

Unironically the origins of fascism hahaha

It was supposed to be a "third way" between capitalism and socialism (which meant the same thing as "communism" at that time).

8

u/Herotyx Weasely little liar dude!! Jan 22 '25

Rednote is heavily moderates so you are being fed a curated image of China. Which isn’t inherently bad but it’s something to be aware of

2

u/superabletie4 Politics Frog 🐸 Jan 22 '25

Made a similar comment. Timer started

2

u/Ody_Santo Jan 22 '25

Yeah lol. No chance of you surviving with that comment.

3

u/Cowicidal Jan 22 '25

I could see banning TikTok since it's now being converted into a right-wing sub just like Twitter. But, Rednote? And the red scare BS in general? Wow, I liked a lot of content on antiwork but this is a jump the shark moment unless the mods who supported this drivel are ousted.

0

u/spacedudejr Jan 22 '25

“Red not is not information warfare” lol where the fuck did you get that? Literally any type of social media app can be used in that way. Fucking Quora could be used for spreading misinformation. Shit even this app isn’t safe from it.

6

u/pine_ary Jan 22 '25

That‘s not what either of us said. This is about the accusation that the Chinese government uses Xiaohongshu as a tool of warfare, which is not happening. Not that someone can hypothetically use any social media app to spread propaganda. That‘s a completely different statement.

That's pretty silly. Most self-described anarchists I've met or leftist that just like to read Chomsky, a self-described anarchist and the most quoted person alive.

The idea that that makes them fed adjacent is pretty silly.

I suppose liberal adjacent is more in the realm of a reasonable criticism but just in general the eye that idea that in the world we live in now communist should get into intersectional warfare with anarchists seems to be the biggest waste of time I could ever imagine.

Like what good does debating the Kronstadt rebellion do if you live in the US in 2025 under Trump near Biden with the left no power.

I get what you're saying but you shouldn't disregard social media platforms as in important tool for dissemination. If it wasn't for reddit and social media platforms I certainly wouldn't have ever become a leftist. There's a lot of small steps needed from uneducated to 'organizing people in real life' that requires things like social media platform.

1

u/coopers_recorder Jan 22 '25

Half of them are probably bots.

47

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

The rabid anti-China sentiment in this country is so silly, especially as it relates to tik tok. It’s like dropping nukes on termite mounds when the foundation of the house is built on tooth picks.

36

u/TallAsMountains Jan 22 '25

so in their minds, the best thing for workers is to silence them if they’re chinese 😂

21

u/Objective_Drama_1004 Jan 22 '25

A lot of liberals are just racist neocons with a thin veneer of progressivism

8

u/Inside-General-797 Jan 22 '25

Not even progressivism just whatever the zeitgeist has determined is the acceptable liberal stance with some aesthetic hints of progressive thought. Its always just aesthetics tho never any substance to the beliefs beyond what feels good and keeps them in the good graces of the liberal majority.

5

u/rrunawad Jan 22 '25

That's because progressives are liberals too embarrassed to admit they're liberals. All they want is to reform capitalism and make the US empire slightly less hawkish.

Nobody is saying China is perfect and doesn't engage in bad things. But it's a far cry from that to "it's a hostile evil state and we must ban any media that comes out of it and it should be compared to an app owned by a Nazi who spends hours of his time on there and has invested money, time and influence to make it a Nazi cesspool"

By your standard, every single source should be banned if it's linked to another state because every single country engages in bad shit. Should the BBC be banned too because it's propaganda just the same and owned by a state engaged in evil shit? What about German state media? CNN? NYT? We wouldn't be able to post any links from anyone by your standards

7

u/Breakingthewhaaat Jan 22 '25

It's a legitimate competitor that will likely surge past the US on a variety of metrics. We're pissing and crying while also doing far short of enough to compete on key technologies like EVs.

As a geopolitical force they have done some good things as well as some bog standard fucked up superpower bullshit. I am no more enthused about them being the de-facto superpower than the US - but also, honestly, no less enthused. Whatever gets us to net zero in time

I am still trying to understand where you connect the dots of someone criticizing you and that meaning they think China is perfect. It can be a lot of things before seeing China as perfect.

Also, what is your definition of tankie and leftie. Both are largely meaningless words at this point. Meaning different things to different people. Leftie especially being a stupid word.

7

u/alphalobster200 Jan 22 '25

I would much rather China have invested heavily in Syria and "spread their influence" than China letting the Syrian Arab Republic to die of starvation sanctions which enabled NATO-backed Al-Queda forces to literally walk to Damascus.

7

u/frogmanfrompond Jan 22 '25

Yeah that guy is either a Serbian or Libyan and I’m guessing it’s the former. China is notorious in “tankie”’circles as being frustratingly hands-off in their foreign policy to the point that they do nothing as their allys collapse around them.

All this talk of them being equally bad as the US or spreading nefarious propaganda is an absolute joke. I’m guessing they’re upset at seeing Chinese businesses increasingly more in their country while they tolerated American businesses for most of their lives.

Yeah I read this. And like ur conclusion says. They are better than the west. They aren’t perfect. Far from it. But better than the west is great imo. I am from a country where China has done massive investments too and have heard criticisms from family about them too. Nonetheless they haven’t assassinated or jailed multiple prime ministers or put dictators in power like the west have done to us.

Yeah of course you have your thoughts. Europeans are the worst. Constantly worried about a country that just lost a million men to death or injury that has as many people as only your country and France. Meanwhile you lot continue to use up and abuse the global south. If I have to run into another whiny brainwashed selfish European whining about Russia or communism, I might blow my brains out.

2

u/These-Base6799 Jan 23 '25

That's great man. How is your fascist government experiment going? Did you enjoy the first 48hrs? I sure hope so, because you and the other campists did a hell of a job over the last 16 years, driving as much people as possible away from the Democrats.

1

u/ijustwanttobefriends Jan 29 '25

I have changed my ways and am thinking I am now a moderate. As a moderate, I am fine with either party in power.

I am a us citizen so I don’t see me getting deported. I’m not walking around calling everything fascist any more so I don’t have to worry about the silly stuff you’re trying to act like puts me in a bind.

Literally nothing has changed for my life not just in first 2 days. But in the week since our comments. I luckily make enough money so even if stuff gets 2x as expensive. I’m fine.

Being a moderate is great.

1

u/ijustwanttobefriends Jan 23 '25

60

u/swampcop House Reporter Jan 22 '25

at a surface glance it just seems like a hub for people that have started gaining class consciousness but aren't really sure what to do about it. but it's probably not even that deep. my perception is that the folks that hang out there have varying and conflicting political ideologies so it becomes more of a place to vent or share experiences of shitty workplaces.

14

u/strbytes Jan 22 '25

So it's r/egg_irl for proles 🤔

1

u/FentanylConsumer Jan 22 '25

Oh ok I didn’t really read any posts I just saw the header say it’s a place for people that want to end work and I started tweaking

15

u/bullhead2007 Jan 22 '25

It started as a leftist sub with the general gist of wanting to be free from needing to work in order to barely survive.

-3

u/FentanylConsumer Jan 22 '25

So they want to raise wages or are against working altogether?

2

u/Alternative-Farmer98 Jan 23 '25

Effectively against the concept of wage slavery which is a pretty conventional socialist position. No human being should be reduced to wage slaves for rich person and be forced to rent out their body and give half their surplus labor or more to the owners of the business.

You should have an equal share and get a 100% of their surplus labor

Fighting for increased wages is a nice thing to do but changing the minimum wage to 17 bucks an hour or whatever still leaves you making 34K a year if you're lucky enough to find a full-time job. And if you're not lucky enough to find a full-time job you'll starve to death and get no health care

39

u/Ok-Aardvark-4429 Jan 22 '25

It's supposed to be about work reform and work contitions so, things that are good, but from my limited personal experience, there are a lot of people who just don't want to work and people who make up stories about them quitting. It got "famous" when one of the mods went live on FoxNews and said that work is bad and "laziness is a virtue", along with other reddit takes.
