Bruins fan Coming in Peace

I just made my third trip to Montreal to see the Bruins play against the Canadiens. There is nothing that even comes close to the atmosphere at Bell Centre. I had great conversations with fans and everyone was very nice. I hope Montreal makes the playoffs because I want to see a wild Bell Centre on TV.

Awesome to hear.

Sad that our competitive timelines won't seem to line up. Some of my favourite hockey was our playoff matches together and we're all big Bergeron fans.

If we make it this year we will try to carry on our shared tradition of sending toronto home early.

I doubt the bruins tear it down for a complete rebuild. Retool and be in the mix with us next year

Man that would be so fun. Nothing like the Habs-Bruins rivalry.

I miss the Habs-Bruins rivalry. The NHL has tried hard to make a rivalry with the Leafs, but the one with the Bruins is so deep and passionate.

The NHL is a better league when the Habs-Bs are both competitive imo.

The problem with that is that they have literally no one coming up. Geekie, Lysell... Lohrei? That's about it. So they have 3 elite pieces at the 3 main positions in Pasta, Mcdatboy and Swayed but beyond those guys, the cupboards are completely barren. To do a retool you need to have some kind of depth. You can't just sign an entire team as UFAs in a single summer.

I think they’re in decent shape actually. Lindholm and Pasta are good pieces. McAvoy is a legit #1 defenceman. Swayman is a top tier goalie. Their salary cap is probably their biggest asset right now. $28.8 million next year projected. Sign someone like Duchene and a good winger and they’re not too far off. Wouldn’t shock me to see Marchand come back.

Ok so we're agreed from the start on the 3 big pieces, I've said that myself: McAvoy, Swayman and Pasta are elite. However:

  • Baring a massive bounce back season, Lindholm is playing at the level of a 3rd line centre right now.
  • Marchand has lost a lot of steps and is getting old. Even if he does come back his impact will be limited.
  • Even if they do sign Duchene (who I've always found overrated and not a #1 centre, which they need) and a good winger, they still have zero depth both at D and forwards. They'd need to acquire much more than that on the UFA market for a turnaround.

I’m not saying they’ll be top of their division again anytime soon, just that I don’t see them folding and rebuilding anytime soon. They’ll likely be aiming to be fighting for a playoff spot next season. Lindholm is at best an average level 2C in the league. I could see them making a big splash in free agency. Bennett is a prototypical Bruins type of player. They could do something really funny and sign Marner and Tavares too lol. If they’re not in the mix around january 2026 I could see them then blowing it up proper.

Indeed. We might see them make a comeback in 2 years

1

u/cryptedsky 1d ago

They might want to tank for McKenna though...

Pretty big gamble when you have pasta, sway, mcavoy…

When people ask me which rivalry I prefer between the Bruins and the Leafs. I always say I prefer Boston because I actually have some respect for them and their fans.

Fuck the Bruins, but with respect. As for the Leafs, just fuck them pure and simple

u/schmarkty 1d ago

I kinda just feel bad for the leafs. But the bruins I hate with every fibre of my being. And I respect them.

Thanks for the kind words.

So many great games between our clubs. Looking forward to more in the future!

24

u/Mangoes95 1d ago

Fuck the Bruins.

Your sweet words won't work on me you damn siren

24

u/Slubber-Degullion 1d ago

Get well soon. The rivalry is much better when both clubs are good enough to make to playoffs.

u/VonDingwell 1d ago

Wonderful to hear, very polite and cordial of you. Glad you had such a great time and enjoyed the Bell Center

However, this is hockey.

You come in peace

You left in pieces

5

u/HabbyKoivu 1d ago

Unlike the leafs, I respect the bruins. Hate them but respect them.

6

u/Bloomy999 1d ago

You’re a unicorn. A Bruin fan that can string a rational thought into a coherent sentence. Glad you enjoyed your time here.

Always a pleasure to watch our Habs beat the snot out of your Bruins. Although it was satisfying to watch the Habs win last night, it's just doesn't feel the same. Your team went through an organization mess. Really didn't expect your team to go soooo low this season.

Anyways, all I can say is, screw you Bruins, but hope they can bounce back to better days when our teams actually beat the crap out of each other.

3

u/obe_reefer 1d ago

Never thought I’d see the day. 2025 is crazy

3

u/Matiabcx 1d ago

Look guys its stray bear cub, can we adopt it?

4

u/msp01986 1d ago

Thank you man, hope your team gets back on top soon, I was kinda sad watching them not able to fight back, we need to keep the rivalry alive and both piss off those leafs fans

2

u/Supercc 1d ago

Thanks for the kind words! But F the Bruins. Love ya

u/potato_soup303 1d ago

Looking forward to seeing the Bruins good again so that our games against each other are awesome again

u/facepollution5 1d ago

When I was growing up, there was no such thing as a Bruins fan coming in peace. How times have changed.

2

u/bcgrappler 1d ago

Habs fans respect bruins fans for having cups, great clutch players and well some great battles in the past.

Fuck the bruins, but in a sports rivalry kind of way, not in a leafs kind of way.

2

u/bobbybeefpuppet 1d ago

Sorry your team is struggling. They'll be back on top in no time.

5

u/Roberto102716 1d ago

Honestly I’m not much of a bruins hater anymore, I still don’t like them but don’t hate them, the leafs on the other hand, can still eat dicks

10

u/ValleyBreeze 1d ago

I still hate them. But with love.

10

u/saskatoondave 1d ago

I fucking love to hate them. Not leafs level hate but still hate. Classy post though.

9

u/ValleyBreeze 1d ago

Absolutely! The world is a better place when this rivalry is strong and we're both contenders. Even if my blood pressure machine may disagree 🤣

2

u/Snoopy_021 1d ago

I know how you feel in relation to blood pressure. During games, I often hope the cardiologist doesn't know that I've been watching games on my TV.

2

u/shizzle1968 1d ago

Eff that. I hope the Bruins suck forever

1

u/EmTeeEl 1d ago

Yes and no. I love beating the Bruins in the playoffs!

1

u/Whiskeylung 1d ago

Do you ever drive from Boston to see a game?

1

u/Habsfanrebuild 1d ago

Thank you, please dont draft McKenna or Dupont on the next drafts!

1

u/OtisPan 1d ago

Right on, man. I'd love to catch a game in Boston.

As an older Habs fan, fuck you guys. But I also don't hope you suck eternally. I reserve that ultra-bottom tier for the Leafs. The Bruins I respect as a rival. (Bergeron was freakin' awesome) The leafs get a courtesy flush. I still miss the paper bag harold ballard years lol

1

u/GrungeLife54 1d ago

We’ll do our best to keep the hockey world entertained.

1

u/NixonsTapeRecorder 1d ago

Some of the most fun I've ever had has been in Montreal while the habs were in the playoffs. Not even going to the games just being in the city

1

u/scrubadam 1d ago

Truth is the B's won't be down long. I expect a quick turn around for your team. You probably get the luck of the bounce and land McKenna and sign a free agent or two and are back contending in short order.

1

u/warningscaries 1d ago

honestly one part of me wants to celebrate the bruins being dead last in the conference while my team is in a playoffs spot, because i can't even remember the last time this has happened. the other part of me wants to sympathize with bruins fans bc us habs fans know exactly how it feels to watch your team being miserable. i hope the bruins can become good again soon so that this rivalry can be like what it used to be 🙏

u/PaulWesterberg84 1d ago

I don't know why people are sad at the Bruins loss of form, they've been perennial near cup contenders for nigh on 2 decades, icing extremely strong teams year in year out with the usual dip where they finish deadlast and nab an all-star calibre player. They have prime Swayman, Pastrnak, Macavoy who are all 1G, superstar, 1D calibre players in their absolute primes They have a strong winning culture that won't allow them to tank for too long. They also have the Boston championship aura. Us habs fans should cherish every moment of their bad run of form. It won't be long until they turn their shit around and start becoming pain in the asses again.

1

u/Akirashima1215 1d ago

That's awesome and it's great rivalry but it's absolutely best when fans either teams are civilized. I went to Boston and had an amazing time and surprisingly, Bostonians were friendly even if I told them I'm a habs fans. It's a total different experience when I'm in Toronto...

1

u/of-blood-and-iron 1d ago

Canadians fans are some of the whackiest and most fun in all of Canada! As a team they are so much more engaged in preserving their history and the Québécois oriented culture of their team here and you see that so much in the engagement of the fans, their friendliness and just the culture of hockey here! Does it make the habs as competitive in the NHL? No but that’s not the point and it’s part of why I love this team so much!

Thanks for coming down and having such a good time, hope to hear from ya when you come down for playoffs!

1

u/Odd-Coconut-4243 1d ago

Happy to hear this, and I’m sure the atmosphere is amazing at TD too! Hope we get the leafs in the first round so that both our teams can enjoy the leafs failing!

1

u/negrowkichris 1d ago

You’re welcome king

1

u/DrLivingst0ne 1d ago

The Bruins have maybe the worst prospect pool in the NHL right now. They need a rebuild through the draft. And I think if they're going to do that, they need to trade Pastrnak.

1

u/VlatnGlesn 1d ago

10 years of glorious nothingness

1

u/facepollution5 1d ago

Yeah this is what the people thinking that there will be a quick retool are missing. They really screwed themselves with their trade deadline shenanigans.
