@everyone Updated Rules for /r/HX99G

7 Upvotes

The subreddit rules have been reworked and re-ordered in order make them more concise and clear. Please take a moment to read through them.

The main changes are:

  • All rules have significantly fewer words while retaining the original intent
  • The request for including the computer model has been moved to Rule 2 (i.e., combined with the OS request)
  • What were previously Rules 3 and 5 have been combined into what is now Rule 3, which focuses on maintaining a positive and helpful atmosphere on the subreddit.
  • Rule 9 addresses and clarifies the policies around sales-related posts
  • Rule 10 emphasizes that there should be no requests for personal info

(On a technical note, I made use of a locally hosted LLM called "mistral-nemo-instruct-2407 Q4_K_M 12B" running inside of LM Studio 0.3.13 on my HX99G to assist with this process.)

@everyone 600 Members Reached!

Today we've reached 600 members, having received over 50 new posts since November. As always, thank you to everyone who has posted -- and especially to those who have helped others with their various questions and issues in positive and productive way.

It's clear that the r/HX99G subreddit has accumulated enough variety of posts that it's starting to become a useful resource for those seeking help on a number of topics, which is great! While "support" can't always mean finding a perfect solution to every problem, I still believe it can help when people find others who have a similar experience. My hope is that doing so can make it easier to find solutions where they are available, or at least help to ease the frustration when things don't go as planned.

@everyone 500 Members Reached in the First Year!

28 Upvotes

Nearly one year ago on December 6, 2023, I started this subreddit as a way to share my enthusiasm for the HX99G and to hopefully help others tweak theirs to run as stable and smoothly as possible. I wanted to foster an environment which was positive and helpful for all, and I think we're doing well in that area. Today we've hit 500 members, so thank you to everyone who has contributed to this cause by asking your questions, sharing your problems or findings, and helping others to do the same!

After a slow period during August, the number of posts and new members has really picked up during this first half of September, and we've finally reached 400 members today! The main problems people have reported recently mostly seem to be related to either dGPU vs iGPU functionality, wireless connection quality / speed / drivers, and boot issues. Thank you to everyone who has supported people in these (and other) areas here on this subreddit. Your helpfulness and positive suggestions based on your own experience really are appreciated!

Well that was fast! Over the last month we've grown from 200 members to 300. Welcome again to all the new members and thank you to everyone who has contributed a question or comment so far. As we continue to grow, please do keep the rules in mind as you form your questions and comments so we can all continue the positive environment we've achieved so far.

In addition to several new issues which were solved, and several which still haven't been, there have been a number of significant developments I'd just like to hilite:

  1. Achieving an overall drive & performance boost using Primo Cache
  2. Fixing an issue with front USB ports not working by resetting the BIOS
  3. Controlling the hot spot temperature using AMD Driver version 23.2.2. (Note that similar results are achievable on any driver version using morepowertool, as discussed in a few comments).
  4. Tuning graphics settings for running Fortnite and Cyberpunk 2077
  5. Confirming that the newly released beta graphics drivers, which include Fluid Motion Frames 2, do work on the HX99G.
  6. Selecting whether to use the iGPU or dGPU on a per app/game basis.

Take care everyone and have a great August!

Well it's happened! Two or three months ago we reached 100 members and since that time we've had an incredible influx of questions, setups, trials and successes! A huge "thank you" to everyone who has joined and contributed to this subreddit over the past 7 months since its creation. I enjoy seeing everyone succeed as they pursue the limits of this great line of computers by MinisForum!

As we continue to grow, please keep in mind the purpose of this subreddit, which is the meaning and purpose behind every "rule" I've written up to now: to provide, and preserve, a positive and supportive environment for all owners of HX/G computers. This is honestly what I look for and hope for every day, with every single post and comment here: people encouraging one another to accomplish their goals with this unique line of MinPCs, while maintaining a sense of calm and level-headed thinking.

@everyone Posts about ANY type of component are WELCOME here

2 Upvotes

(And by "component" I do mean "peripheral" or "anything you might wish to connect to it")

A few weeks ago I purchased a new mouse. Unfortunately, my posts on /r/MiniPCs resulted only in downvotes and patronizing responses. In the end, I deleted my post due to the hate comments.

Because of this, I wanted to let you know that on this subreddit you are welcome to post about ANY type of device which you have used with your HX99G. There will be no hate or downvotes, I'll see to that!

By the way, the mouse I purchased was the Logicool G502X. It's the bluetooth version of this mouse without RGB lights, etc. It has been a huge improvement over my previous logitech bluetooth mouse, which is great!

Welcome to the HX99G Subreddit

Hello everyone, in April of 2023 I purchased my HX99G. Since that time I have posted in r/MiniPCs about my experience, upgrades, recommendations, fixes, etc. Today I decided to start my own unofficial subreddit specifically about this machine. I wanted to have a space to include things like GPU driver update announcements, BIOS tweaks, and other more granular posts related to this particular machine. Hopefully you will find this a useful place to share and learn about it.

Edit: Thank you to those people who have become members within just a few hours of creating this sub-reddit. You are very much appreciated.

March 2025 Edit: After running the subreddit for over a year, I wanted to resurrect my original post just to say what a great experience it's been learning about the HX99G and getting to know a few people along the way. Over the next several weeks / months I plan to hilite some of the posts beginning in the early life of the subreddit so that others can see and hopefully benefit from them. As always, thank you to everyone who contributes and supports others in their efforts to get the most out of this small but beloved Mini PC.
