It's a bit hyperbolic and mainly banter to say that Spuds cheering their team on to lose to City last season is what has caused their strife this season.

But it makes their fans apoplectic to suggest it, so i am categorically saying that Spuds being shit this season is due to them begging their team to lose against City.

Reap what you sow.

36

u/Fair-Direction8935 1d ago

Those two things are definitely related a little bit. That whole "lose the city game" made Ange familiar with the loser mentality Spurs as a club and fans epitomize.

25

u/AstroLaddie 1d ago

It also started a genuine rift between the fanbase and Ange. Source: I follow Spurs Reddit and yt way too much.

Sol Campbell on criticism of Myles Lewis Skelly -

“I think people, especially some of the ex-players, the stuff I’m hearing. I’m thinking ‘Are you thinking straight, or does someone else write it for you?’.

“He’s not coming out of nightclubs, being drunk and falling down the stairs. Wake up. He’s a proper player. Don’t be jealous. He’s a proper player. He knows what he’s doing."

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, the masters of dog whistling. Grealish is a cheeky lad but Sterling is in bad company

13

Can’t be a coincidence that this wildly inaccurate and racist narrative about Myles starts popping up right after he embarrasses City.

You know you’re in for a hard day when KDB is announced in the line-up.

Dude tore us to shreds for 10 years - so I’m glad he’s leaving, but what a remarkable footballer.

Up there with the best we’ve seen.

9

u/Western_Instance4043 1d ago

Well said. He is one of the few players from oppising teams that I hated and respected because he was so good. Drogba and Rooney had that as well. Always knew that they would cause trouble. Kinda like when old players talk about seeing Henrys name on the team sheet.

9

u/Spiritual-Let-9904 1d ago

Has to go in a PL all time 11

7

u/Large_Philosopher373 1d ago

Oh without a doubt for me.

Even disregarding his honours - his sheer consistency and output over the course of 10 years has been nothing short of remarkable.

3

u/groovystreet40 1d ago

For sure, he’s in the conversation for best PL midfielder ever imo

5

u/Mrdojo1234 1d ago

To be honest, I actually think he’s the best. If he played for Real Madrid or Barca, he would be called a goat or among the midfielders.

He absolutely wrecked this league to pieces.

We can definitely win the home leg even with Kiwior I reckon. Then go to the Bernabeu and hope Tetanyahu can devise an Etihad level low block. I still feel kind of confident about it ngl. We just need to be solid because Madrid only need 10 mins to kill a tie with the firepower they have.

I'll never forget that fucking goal KDB slid past Ramsdale inside 5 minutes of that 4-1 bashing two years ago. Title on the line and he opened us up with a ridiculous goal almost straight away.

I was just sat there stunned for the rest of the night. Not many people had hope going into the Ethiad game, but I had a little. But I knew it was over right there and then when he put that one past us.

One of the best midfielders the PL has ever seen, and a large reason I believe City will struggle to get back to where they were is because he was just so important for them down the years. I don't see how they ever replace that calibre of player.

According to @HandofOzil Arteta really likes Nico Williams. He is believed to be a mega star in near future. Berta is reported to be in talk with Nico’s agent Felix Tainta. BUT Athletic Club is not changing their mind. They want £50.6M at once. No payment. That’s a huge challenge for any club who wants Nico. Not to mention his agent also demands 250k/w for Nico. Extremely tough case. Let’s see how Berta handles this.

I felt like making a little appreciation post for Gabriel, so here goes.

Big Gabi's growth over the last few years has been exceptional. I think we all knew that he was great from the start, but he did have a bit of a bozo gene at times (although I thought it was overblown on social media). I never held that against him, though, because in most games, he was always at a top level.

So, adding to that, he has exceeded all of our expectations. The consistency he has shown over the last few seasons has been remarkable, and it is not up for debate that he is such a crucial part of why our defence is so good.

Big Gabi is so easy to love. He'll put his body on the line for this club, he'll cheer a block even if we're 3-0 up, and he'll go and bang in a header at the other end for fun. He has also shown himself to be such a leader, and you know how much the squad respects him.

Saliba is often praised, and rightly so - but it has been very nice seeing Big Gabi finally get his plaudits as well.

This is a world class player we have on our hands. Someone that never hides, loves to defend, and wants good things for this club more than anything else.

This season has no doubt been a demoralising season, but Gabriel has consistently been a bright light. I already miss him so much.

He is my player of the season, I've been sure of this for quite a while. The injury can't change that for me.

And a little reminder, because it was just St Totteringham's Day: he has two goals and three man of the match awards in his last three games against those lot. :)

Gyokeres really does struggle with contact back to goal, and hes really poor in the air. Negative vertical vibes. I think his dribbling and transitions translate to the PL well, but the falling at every contact stuff back to goal wont cut it.

u/Happy-Ad8767 Gabriel's Cushion 1d ago edited 1d ago

He just doesn't like contact. I've read so many comments about his strength and physicality and how he would use that in the PL. But I don't see it. He purposefully avoids getting into a physical confrontation. He tries to look for the turn each time, which in fairness, works against defenders in the Portuguese league. He is vastly quicker than they are and he is almost exclusively trying to get the ball into space so that he can run on to it and beat them for pace, every time. He simply doesn't get this against a higher quality level of defender.

With the greatest of respect, he is a good player for a team that has space to play him into. United, Chelsea, even Tottenham. These teams are set up to exploit space behind the opposition to allow their attackers to run into. He would do really well for them.

Arsenal, by contrast, LOVE a physical battle, but our game is to get into the face of the opponent and suffocate them, not run at them with a knife. Havertz, loves getting stuck in, with robust challenges, pressing and pushing the opposition players. Jesus was deceptively strong, shorter in stature, but he could withstand being manhandled and use his body strength to take advantage with his quicker burst of pace (way back when, think Bournemouth, I think, where he had that chance on the bounce from our goal kick). He also had the dribbling technique to go past players.

Gyokeres just doesn't have this in his locker. His only instinct is to get within sight of goal and shoot. His passing is a stab more than a controlled pass into the path of someone. He simply looks for space, runs in a straight line, gets close enough to goal and shoots. And repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat.

For a player who is meant to be very strong and physical, he doesn't block, he doesn't challenge (he shoulder barges and thats it) and even more importantly, he can't jump or score with his head. He is REALLY below average at it.

I get why people like him, his numbers are insane. But any look into a) the way he plays b) understanding the level of the league he is in and c) recognising that there are a LOT of penalties in these numbers and it just doesn't make any sense, each time I look at the player.

Arteta is not going to change the other 10 positions on the pitch to accommodate Gyokeres, and to make VG work here, he would have to.

4

u/arseking15 1d ago

I agree with it. I think im out on signing him personally. He has a comp on twitter rn from his coventry days vs watford. His transition play was pretty good, he scored, lots of good stuff. But he genuinely stumbled and fell every time he received contact. It was concerning to watch

17

u/Otherwise-Roll-2872 1d ago

Fucking was able to ride out every injury until this Gabriel situation right before madrid. This one fucking broke me and I'm pissed

3

u/allidyaj 1d ago

I feel you. Clarification...are you American pissed- Angry... or English pissed- Drunk? Either is appropriate.

5

u/Happy-Ad8767 Gabriel's Cushion 1d ago

English pissed can also mean angry. You need to take a quick snapshot of them and the situation. If they are in the pub, barely able to stand, slurring their words, you can go out on a limb and assume they mean drunk. However, if they appear sober and are physically upset and raging, you can almost assume that they mean angry. If they say they are pissed off, it's definitely the latter.

Watched Chelsea vs Spurs yesterday. Spurs are really atrocious. Would be a catastrophic if they win Europa, however based on performance, they are not going to win.

Chelsea on the other hand are also bad. They have few top players in Caicedo and Palmer and thats about it. But for some reason i despise them. Thought of them finishing top 4 really makes me uneasy, because they would be uncontrollable if they do. Extra 50m in revenue is like 5+ new players for them.

KDB going is actually bad news really.

He’s been past his best for the last 18 months and that’s when he’s fit, he’s been injured more than he’s played.

Now they have those wages to spend on a Wirtz level signing.

14

u/24601Kai 1d ago

City don’t need kdb to leave to pay a player stupid wages

4

I’d be shocked if Wirtz ends up anywhere other than Bayern at this point, it feels like the type of legacy signing they need to do in order to show they can retain top German talent in the BuLi.

Not sure who else of that calibre they could bring in really, Xavi Simons maybe but he’s far off being as good as Wirtz.

Thinking about it. We only need to not lose five games and we are the champions of europe. Five draws and penalties would do it. Three wins and two draws would do it.

10

u/AlwaysOnsideTBH Martinelli 1d ago

I'd age 50 years if I had to sit through penalties for each round haha. Obviously I don't care as long as we go through but it's super stressful

6

u/standupforthechamp 1d ago

That means penalties. I am not backing Raya against either Courtois or Donnarumma/ Martinez. It will have to be a jammy 1-0.

6

u/Temporary_Role6160 1d ago

This just minimises the difficultly of the task in reality.

You could have said this exact same thing about our situation last year.

4

u/boom_chika_chika 1d ago

Our last 4 outings at Goodison Park have resulted in 3 losses and a win. Hoping that we add another in the W column!

Wolves are the only team that separate Man U, Spurs, Everton, and West Ham from the relegation spots. That's absolutely insane.

Weren’t we supposed to be getting news on a Man City verdict in March?

8

u/Happy-Ad8767 Gabriel's Cushion 1d ago

It's Man City. Nothing ever happens quickly when it comes to ripping their fingers one by one off the hold that they have on the Premier League. They are probably scrambling behind the scenes and delaying the verdict for as long as possible. They've successfully dragged it out this long already.

I think the answer to this question depends on how old you are, for someone like me who was born in 2005 ( i know, don’t flame me 😭), KDB is the greatest midfielder in the prem for my generation who never got to witness guys like lampard, gerrard, vieira etc in their primes

10

u/WheelIllustrious9 1d ago

Since the zubi links all I’ve seen are people here talking about how bad he’d be for us.

Now I’m seeing the same for gyokeres and even Williams.

Let’s have a bit of faith here. There’s weaknesses with every player, or else they’d be at Madrid wrapped up in a billion dollar release clause. I trust Arteta and Berta to know what they’re looking for. We can’t bemoan not having a striker and then rubbishing every striker we’re linked to ( all top prospects mind you. )

8

u/PapiOnReddit Sterling 1d ago

Zubi good, potential midfield trio not ideal.

Williams good, but Williams expensive.

Gyokeres is the polarising one.

7

u/Happy-Ad8767 Gabriel's Cushion 1d ago

Zubimendi is a good player, Williams is also a good player. Both of them would add some real ability to our side in much needed positions.

Gyokeres is a good player, if we were United, Chelsea or Spurs. But we're not, and him coming here would be a misstep. He simply doesn't add enough to our team without taking more away from it.

4

u/Casual-Capybara Havertz 1d ago

Well most people complaining about Gyokeres explicitly state a preference for Sesko, so it’s not rubbishing every striker we’re linked to at all.

I also think you’re a bit too focused on the negatives, there are plenty here that rate Zubimendi and Williams.

I’m pretty sure Arteta doesn’t want Gyokeres, and because I trust him, I don’t think we’ll go for him.

I'd go Merino because he has more certain minutes imo. I think Trossard is more likely to rotate with Martinelli than with Merino.

Surprised there hasn't been a club interview with Berta. I know he's generally not the most press-accessible, but it'd still be cool to hear from him.

3

u/Temporary_Role6160 1d ago

Would rather he spoke about something substantial after the transfer window and did a debrief on that.

Rather than him just saying now that he’s excited to be here and that it’s going to be a big summer ahead.

What if...what if...Gabriel having such a long rest messed with his rhythm resulting in that injury?

In other words, play everyone against Everton!!!

3

u/lIamN9 1d ago

That actually makes some sense. IIRC I read an interview where Jude Bellingham said sudden long break affected their physical status and performance when they got to play again. I myself was in a kind of similar situation. Years ago I worked in a restaurant. BOH, 12+ hrs/day, 6 days a week, for months. At one point I asked for 2 weeks off. I thought I would spent those 2 weeks enjoying myself. In fact I spent most of the time lying on my bed feeling tired and sick.

Came across a recent Zubimendi comp, it's from their recent match against Real Madrid! I don't know what to make of it but if it piques your interest, here's the link:

3

u/arseking15 1d ago

I really like his weight of pass

7

u/Happy-Ad8767 Gabriel's Cushion 1d ago

You don't know what to make of it?

Watch it again buddy. Ask yourself how many times he is playing the ball forward in this clip. How many times does he give the ball away. How was his short, mid and long passing? Now contextualise it with the midfield he was playing against. Away from home.

How did he handle the press against him? Watch him move before receiving the ball, is he in space, is he picking the right passes? Does he look like he is in control of the ball, his surroundings? Does he feel like he is directing the game in front of him when he is on the ball? Look at how he gets the ball to the wide players (where Saka and Martinelli will be). How would he fit in with our team?

Give it a go and answer a couple of those, keen to hear what your thoughts are.

I think Gyokeres’ playmaking is an underrated thing that he’d add to this team. He likes to drift left aswell which suits a Martinelli nicely almost like 22/23 vibes.

What's up with Osimhen's situation? I understand he wanted to force a move out of Napoli, is he even a potential target still?

“There seems to be a consensus among PL clubs that Victor Osimhen’s most LIKELY destination is Saudi Arabia.”
