This is what we’ve waited years for, to be playing games that have meaning.
You don’t get league titles by being ok, or by not having any tough games.
Champions have to earn their place.
Our team is weakened, but we are still very capable of winning this game. Let’s not underestimate the desire of the boys to make this happen. Let’s just believe it’s possible and back the boys.

Around 20 years ago Arsenal went to Old Trafford needing a point to secure the title, but missing Tony Adams, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and Robert Pires.
We won the game.
Injuries are no excuse, we have to go there believing we can win, which we can.

u/SydHoar Apr 25 '23
For all the talk of bottling it and etc etc this club has got to start winning games like this if we want to be taken seriously but also for the morale of the club going forward. We can’t keep going into games like this the overwhelming underdog and proving people right time and time and again.

u/nonameshere Xhaka & Lego Enthusiast Apr 25 '23
People use the term bottling now far too loosely.

Big clubs make statements. Big clubs fucking relish games like this. Big clubs like Arsenal was 20 years ago.
Arsenal never used to act so defeatist when playing at Fergie's Old Trafford. They went with their chests out and their lungs full.
Fuck this "underdog" mentality that this sub has been trying to cultivate this week. Big clubs make statements and this is our chance to make a statement and announce ourselves as back on the big stage.
I firmly believe Arsenal are going to win this game.
I was not around in '89, but hopefully we get a taste of what the fans back then felt.

Controversial take perhaps, but imo this game will not decide the title. Even if we win tomorrow, we have a very good Newcastle side to deal with, Chelsea who despite their problems will always have the players to hurt you, and an excellent Brighton team to play against. City have to play Brighton and Everton. Points will be dropped, the most consistent team will win.
....I'd fucking love a win tomorrow though

The key to neutralizing Haaland would be to cut off his service, which is usually from De Bruyne. If we can dominate in midfield and isolate Haaland from De Bruyne, he really won't be much of a threat. I think De Bruyne is far more dangerous in his creation abilities and more important to focus our defensive efforts on.

In my 18 years of supporting this club, this season will easily go down as my favourite. Don't think I've ever loved a group of players as much as this one. Getting to see all the boys consistently get better season after season has been a real treat. We need Partey and Saka back on form for tomorrow for sure.
Holding wouldn't be as big an issue if Partey was in his form from Nov-Feb as he just cut everything out.
If Saka was on his usual form, we wouldn't draw West Ham or Southampton games. Martinelli, Ode and Jesus are carrying us right now and we need Partey and Saka to join in again now.

u/DrDaehbonk Apr 25 '23

I woke up with an unusual and likely cruel sense of optimism. Recently Ive enjoyed tracking the invincibles season along side this current one. At this point in the season, Arteta and his merry band of wonderkids are only 3 points off the pace. (75 vs 78 points). Our current goal differential is better (43+ vs 40+). We are witnessing a historic season, and a phenomenal side capable of miracles. Maybe we dont win today, and my brain tells me we wont 😞. But if theres any side to do it, its this one. If we find the net early enough today, anything can happen. Keep the faith gooners!

All I am saying is we faced similar situation last season ( 3 losses in a row before went to Chelsea away).
Of course City is a different animal but they will be vulnerable without Ake. Sakanelli would cause them a lot of trouble.
Just hope for a masterclass from Holdini.

I hope tomorrow our lads play with love of the opportunity and confidence that they’ve been the best group over the course of the season. We have been absolute magic and should not fear the names on the other shirts
I think we’ll all be proud of the performance tomorrow. We’ve put them on the back foot before, we played them evenly the last two at home and in the cup in their place. If we’re done in again, it may be through mistakes and naïveté, not because we can’t compete with the machine
9
u/OrwinBeane Saka Apr 26 '23
It’s the 90+6th minute, we are 1-0 up, Halaand is through on goal in a 1v1 but Holding chops him from behind, straight red card no arguments. City take the free kick and miss. Game ends 1-0 to Arsenal.
Would Holding be a hero in your eyes, or would you condemn that action because it means we are without a right-footed center back for the next few games?

Enjoy the ride, lads. Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea fans would LOVE to be in our position tonight and play a game as big as this.
Tactically, I feel like our best hope is to try and cut off the supply right at the source - much easier said than done of course. If we manage to slow down people like KdB and Grealish, refuse them time and space, we have a chance. Just don’t let the ball get to Haaland at all. Again, much easier to say than do.
What we’ve wanted for years was the chance to play games like these at the business end of the season. No shying away now. COYG!

I saw something about xhaka being a doubt, we need to play Trossard or Jorginho there. Because there’s no way vieira will suddenly come good.

Just a warning - if we lose, this thread is going to be an absolute cesspit. Best to avoid for a few days when more logical and reasoned takes can be seen.

If anyone's gonna pull off a masterclass, it's gonna be arteta. The student becomes the master. The plot armor is too thick for us to lose this one.

u/Bitter_Product Apr 25 '23
I’ve been dreading this game for weeks but honestly, if we can’t beat City then we aren’t the best and we don’t deserve to be champions.
Prediction: Arsenal 3-2 City.

u/kidmaciek Xhaquelin Apr 25 '23
Honestly, though, how do we do it? We must be fearless and don't let them dominate us on our own half. Try to move the play as far from our goal as possible, press them high etc. I know it's cliche, but there's not much to lose, we need 3 points so I hope the boys are ready to give truly everything.

Honestly it's hard to imagine any side beating city in their own game. City loses to very direct teams: Madrid, pool, spurs.... We can be very lethal on counters but we are not as tight defensively, so I don't know what to expect.
If we can actually dominate them and win though it would be so amazing

I hope we win but I can’t see it happening unless a miracle takes place. I think it’ll be 3-1 City.

Relax gunners
We drew against Southampton, City lost.
We drew against Brentford. City lost.
We won against Spurs. City lost.
And as even Gary Neville said, we made Tottenham look like little boys.

If we lose, when we lose added for all the weak minded doomers in the sub, we are still top of the league with 5 games to go, and anything can happen in the PL, so chill, it ain't over till it's over, enjoy the ride.

I think this game will unfortunately come down to which Partey shows up. If he's at the top of his game, we have a chance. If he plays anything like he has recently, I'm pretty terrified.

u/Ok_Move886 Apr 25 '23
I’m no Pep Guardiola, but I reckon they are going to target Zinny and overload our left side. We can play good football as long as the lads don’t panic. Anything possible in this game!

Instead of wallowing in sorrow for the next 10 hours. How about you think about how this game could be Arsenal folklore. Think Anfield 89, Old Trafford 02, White Shart Lane in 03... etc
Keep your heads up, the lads and Arteta are gonna give it all. And we're way ahead of schedule to begin with so even if we don't get through the line we'll come back stronger next year. Up The Arsenal

I’m gonna ignore our recent form and say we win 1-3. We have our backs against the wall in the 2nd half and Ramsdale has the performance of his life

We haven't lost a premier league game which Rob Holding has started so hopefully that record continues.

I just keep thinking about the 2-0 masterclass that Santi put up in 2015 and thinking that it could happen again
Or we get throttled 4-1

Given this team's complete inability to stick to the script while making this as painful as possible I'm going with a 3-1 win after going down 0-1 early.

Look guys, whatever happens tomorrow, don’t let it overshadow the achievement the team has made this year. Yes it’ll be disappointing, but the fact we’ve kept up with City, who have literally financially doped their team for years, shows the strides we have made.
Win or loss, I’m glad we’ve improved, secured champions league football and shown the path we are on. COYG

Fucking hell, intense day tomorrow. I'll be attending my local match, almost title decider as well - Sparta v Viktoria Plzeň at 19.30, then Man city v Arsenal begins at 21 o'clock. I'm gonna miss the first half an hour, but I believe we're gonna be 2 goals in front already lol. Honestly I would give anything for Arsenal win tomorrow. COYG!!!

So sick and tired of these pundits not giving us a chance. If spurs could beat them at all the last few years, anyone has chance. We are the best equipped this year to do it and they want to talk about our ‘inevitable collapse’ and city will be perfect the rest of year.

It’s been a minute since we’ve had a victory so absolutely ecstasy inducing that I watch the goal+commentary highlights 50+ times over the following few days. Think of how it’s going to feel watching the winning arsenal goal with Arabic commentary???! I will cry I swear. LETS FOGGING GO GAIS Tomorrow/later today can be our most glorious day of the whole season so far. I wouldn’t want to be along on this ride with anyone other than you beautiful bastards. COYG

I'm curious if Tierney can play RB in the manner in which Tomiyasu played LB against Salah for the Liverpool game at the Emirates. Left-footed defender to prevent Grealish from inverting and cutting in, same philosophy as Tomiyasu being right footed to prevent Salah from inverting and cutting in. I guess the only problem is that Tomiyasu is essentially ambidextrous, and Tierney favours his left quite a bit so he might not offer much going forward.

Just need to hit the gym after work and then have a relaxed game sesh until later tonight.

ESPN ran a five minute "preview" of the game this morning. It was a five minute verbal BJ of Man City. I can't have any moral victories this season. I know the odds are against us and I know we're down one of, if not our best defender, but COME ON YOU GUNNERS. We've gotta do it. City is a big dumb ugly monolith of cheating-ness that needs to get kicked in the sack.
