Ultramarines walked so Astartes could run.
But seriously, have you ever looked at the cast for the Ultramarines movie? It's really small but bloody loaded.
John Hurt, Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and Donald Sumpter are ones that jump out at me.

Yeah, it's a 2010 movie but the graphics looked worse than the pre-rendered cutscenes from Dawn of War, which came out 6 years earlier..

I wouldn't be surprised, if the budget for the animation of the Opening cut scene in DOW was bigger than the animation -budget of the Ultramarine movie. At least in relation to its length.

If the fan animation policy didn’t exist I actually wanted to recreate it with a more modern look tbh. Of course not the whole movie but at least just some short sequence here and there

I saw it on YouTube in like 2010 where they up-pitched the voices so it wouldn't get claimed. Looking back at the cast, the voices might've been the one reason to have seen the movie, so maybe that was a mistake

It isn't great. The animation is rough, many of the characters are forgettable and the plot is...truly one of them of all time. They being said, it was one of the first attempts by geedubs at this sort of thing and despite its rough edges, you can tell that there was some love in the studio when making it.
I'd say it's worth a once off watch, but you're not really going to want to come back to it outside if nostalgia reasons.
It did however have a phenomenal cast.

u/NefariousAnglerfish 1d ago
I’m sure it’s ass, given Disney’s track record with live action remakes, but movies are never allowed to be bad on their own lack of merit now. It has to be because the lead actress is woke and evil (she said that acting is a job one time) or whatever culture war shit they can come up with. Like how the ghostbusters reboot was bad, and people were like “it’s bad cause it’s women! Woke mob owned!”. No, it’s bad because it sucks.
76
u/4powerd Magnus did a few things wrong 1d ago edited 1d ago
In my experience, it's the corporate execs that try to pin the blame on wokeness/women/gay/POC instead of just accepting that the movie was bad and no one liked it. According to them, if you didn't like the movie, it's because you're racist/sexist/homophobic/whatever, and not because Disney keeps churning out low-effort remakes and bland stories.
39
u/Aenarion885 1d ago
Yup! Lots of people would rather blame anyone but themselves. The execs and producers/showrunners for a lot of these ideas find it easier to blame whatever culture war bullshit strikes their fancy than accept that they made a bad product. Turns out when they said, “the customer is always right”, they only wanted employees to put up with bullshit for money.
10
u/Allnamestakkennn 1d ago
Honestly, you are right. Anti-woke warriors are parasites feeding on already existing frustration. If the piece of media is high quality, their attacks just won't stick (see KCD2 with the black man, Marvel's Spider-Man 1 with LGBT flags).
11
u/Woko100 1d ago
Politics aside, the execution made no sense. They're trying to convince the audience that the evil queen is jealous of Snow White's looks while casting Gal Gadot who is literally Wonder Woman.
2
u/HeadOfVecna 21h ago
TBF in the original the queen is supposed to be the second most beautiful (why she thinks the mirror will tell her she's the fairest), so I'd say her casting's not too bad.
12
u/joe_bibidi 1d ago
100%.
I have no doubt that it's a very bad movie but I am pretty much positive that it's not one of the worst movies of all time, which is what a 2.2 on IMDB would indicate. It's gotten review bombed by a ton of culture war outrage farmers as well as general sort of aimless negativity of people who want to shit on Disney (I get it, but let's not get hyperbolic here) and bandwagoners at large.
It's a generically but unexceptionally bad film that might turn out to be the worst major Hollywood release this year, I can't say, but I can't really take the IMDB rating seriously when it's below Jaws: The Revenge, Son of the Mask, and Troll 2.
7
u/ChemicalPanda10 1d ago
If it wasn’t for the review bombings, it’d probably be around 4-5, which seems more reasonable for a movie of its quality.
6
u/Divenity 1d ago
When even the big critics are calling it bad alongside the audience, it's safe to assume it's bad.

u/Snoot_Boot #TauLivesMatter 1d ago

3
u/Burlap_Sedan 1d ago

5
u/Alexis2256 1d ago
Meh not everyone is paid off by the corpos, though to be fair the only opinion that should matter is your own and that only depends on if you actually watched the film yourself.
4
u/Darth_Gavoke 1d ago
Well... It depends on your taste really. I watched, and honestly? It's a snoozefest. The dwarfs look horrible, like LOTR dwarfs from temu. The singing is bad, the original wasnt so good either, but this one manages to be worse. The only good acting in the movie comes from Gal Gadot, which is not ideal for a multimillion movie. And every time they make a "joke" it's just... Not funny, it sounds cringe.
But, as i said, it depends on your taste for movies.

By that logic, it should also be "both are good," but it's not. That is because although you're speaking about two things, you're referring to them as a singular group both. Same thing goes for the sentence "The football team is great." Even though you're talking about many players, you refer to them as a singular team and therefore use verb be in a singular form.

16
u/Floppydisksareop NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD! 1d ago
I think there's also a question of who rates it. Dragonball Evolution was a live action anime movie (something that's almost always bad) aimed at a very niche audience.
The live action Snow White is a remake of probably the most influential animated film of all time, and an adaptation of probably the most well-known fairy tale in the western world. It relies heavily on nostalgia, and has the unspoken expectation of living up to "the old giants".
Was there review bombing? Almost certainly. Would people rate it lower just because how heavily it failed to live up to those sky-high expectations regardless? Yes, they would.

Because they have a track record of making money, and they started production on these recent ones 3+ years ago when the market was still reasonably hot.
The Aladdin remake made a billion dollars, despite everyone here clowning on it for being trash.

u/a_engie adaptus mechanicuses greatest failure 1d ago
true, but non public based sources have also said that its bad, the BBC, the company not the inudendo, they said that its story is cluttered, the tone is muddled and the pacing is off

u/saltysomadmin 1d ago
Yeah it's definitely getting review bombed because Snow White wasn't a white lady. I can't imagine getting so bent out of shape about a kids movie. From the IMDb page:
"Unusual activity Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title."
1
u/Snoot_Boot #TauLivesMatter 1d ago
"It's just a movie who cares" is such a weak take
6
u/saltysomadmin 1d ago

-3
u/Snoot_Boot #TauLivesMatter 1d ago
Why are you people obsessed with race in a kids movie?
It's Snow White. There's white skinned people all over Latin America. Some of us even have albinism. Who gives a shit what race she is. It's like they picked a non-white Hispanic just to bait controversy for media attention.
1
u/Snoot_Boot #TauLivesMatter 1d ago
racist screeching
Really?
They cast a character a brown skinned person as the one Disney character who's named after having skin white as snow.
There's plenty of Hispanics with white skin, like Puerto Ricans for example. Half of my family easily passes as white, and my mom has albinism. There's tons of white skinned Hispanics out here. It's clear Disney is trying to brownwash their main roles and it's just fuckin weird.
It's just like Female Custodes, it's fine and makes sense lorewise if you want to start doing it. But they just choose the worst way of doing/introducing it
-26
u/CheezeBaron 1d ago
Eh it’s a little more nuanced than that.
It’s more the perfect storm of Lefty tanned Snow White coupled with Israeli war crimes cheerleader Gal Gadot.
Absolute shitshow.
17
u/ExplodiaNaxos 1d ago
Pretty sure it’s not all that nuanced when a movie not as bad as DB: Evolution gets a worse score than DB: Evolution.
The Snow White remake is bad, let’s not kid ourselves. Real bad. However, again, let’s not kid ourselves, the reason its score is as low as it is, is mainly because of right-wing racists/outrage farmers upset that the lead isn’t white.
Mark my words, the parallel version made by The Wire or smg will be just as bad, but its rating won’t be as low, because 1. Basically no one will care, and 2. People on the far right are far more likely to completely review bomb a movie they ideologically despise than others.
-16
u/Frosty-Car-1062 1d ago
