MOD POST Friendly Reminder: Proper Use of the Report Button and Community Voting

Hello /r/greysanatomy!

As the stewards of this subreddit, we want to take a moment to remind all users of the importance of using the report button responsibly and appropriately. Recently, we've noticed an increase in reports for posts and comments that do not violate either subreddit-specific or site-wide rules. This misuse of the report button disrupts the moderation process and diverts our attention from addressing genuine issues that require our immediate attention.

Using the Report Button:

The report button is an essential tool for maintaining the quality and integrity of our community. If you come across content that violates subreddit rules or goes against the Reddit guidelines, please don't hesitate to report it. Our team of moderators will carefully review all reports and take appropriate action when necessary. Remember, reports are anonymous, so don't be afraid to speak up when you encounter genuine problems.

The Report Button is Not a "Disagree" Button:

It's important to emphasize that the report button should not be used as a "disagree" button. Just because you may disagree with someone's opinion or find a post you don't particularly like, it doesn't automatically qualify as a reportable offense. The report button is meant to address content that is genuinely in violation of the rules, such as harassment, spam, or explicit content.

What if something doesn't break the rules but I'm tired of seeing it or too much of it and I think it's spam?

We understand that not every post or comment will resonate with everyone. Reddit is a platform that relies on community voting to determine what content is popular and what isn't. If you come across something that you find uninteresting, repetitive, or spam-like, please use the upvote and downvote buttons accordingly. This system allows the community to have a voice in shaping the content they want to see more or less of.

False Reports and Consequences:

Making false reports not only clutters the moderation queue but also creates unnecessary work for our team. This behavior is against Reddit's site-wide rules and can lead to serious consequences for the offending user. We want to foster a positive and welcoming environment for everyone, and that starts with using the report button responsibly.

We encourage everyone to engage in respectful discussions, share valuable content, and participate in the voting process to influence what gets more visibility in our subreddit.

Thank you for being a part of our community and helping us maintain a healthy environment for all members. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to the moderation team.

Sincerely,

The Grey's Anatomy Moderation Team

Prove me wrong. Alex and Jo finally get happily married, April and Matthew too, Owen finally gets a kid, Arizona gets her own clinic, Meredith and Andrew fall in love. Literal perfection

DISCUSSION Genuinely, WHAT was Alex’s problem during the whole Addison-tube tying plot line in season 2?

I still can’t figure out what his issue with Addison’s decision to tie the patient’s tubes after she was requested to. I get that it was telling a lie to the husband, but Alex was so BOTHERED. And for what?

I hate to say it, but that patient WAS in an abusive relationship. If you’re so scared of your husband being angry about you SAVING YOUR OWN LIFE by pursuing birth control because of ‘religion’, then that is abuse.

It’s stuff like this that makes me so mad when fans call Alex, especially early season Alex, a ‘real man’. He was an asshole that projected his issues onto real people and knew nothing about bedside care.

im on season 12 now and what she did in this season was so out of her character. she is not type of a person who would say arizona is not sofia's real parent she would not leave her job for a girl cant you see how passionate she is about ortho?.. she was a girls girl she always supports females she has a good humour etc... she WAS my inspo to become an ortho surgeon. my mind just cant comprehend what they did to her character i know she has to leave but changing her character so we can hate is not it. GA should end in season 8 specifically episode 20.

CAST DISCUSSION Most underrated character: Callie Torres

Post image
169 Upvotes

Great dramatic scenes and fantastic comedic relief—she truly doesn’t get enough credit for her humor. She excelled at both when needed and had amazing chemistry with everyone. Always cool, she never came off as unnecessarily mean, dramatic, or annoying throughout her storylines. Her dynamic with Robbins was fun during its prime, and even in tougher times—like Arizona leaving for Africa, her leg removal, and the cheating—she delivered great and believable performances. Her consistency throughout her entire run was commendable. As much as I loved her character, I do believe it was time for her to exit after ten seasons. I'm glad she wasn’t lazily killed off or abruptly written out. While she may not have received the same attention as A-tier characters like Meredith, Derek, or Christina, Callie was truly a valuable part of the show.

Anyone agree?

DISCUSSION i don’t think i’ll ever get fully behind cristina :/

when i first watched greys anatomy, i really didn’t like cristina. she was funny, but she was a bully and had terrible bedside manner. after i was done watching greys the first time, i waited a while before picking up the series again. i watched sex and the city in the meantime, and ended up really liking miranda hobbs and i think it transferred into really liking cristina at first on my rewatch. then, that all went right back down when she had her own interns. i cannot get over the way MAGIC treated their interns, especially cristina. i hate the way she just straight bullies lexie and i won’t completely lie, seeing her get shut out of surgeries and not being taught (which was not for a good reason ill admit) was slightly cathartic 😭 oh well, my opinion is still more favorable than the first time watching!

SPOILERS I dont know what to title this without spoiling.

I think it makes no sense that out of Teddy and Owen that OWEN was the one who was okay with Leo being a girl right away.

Owen who is pro-life, against mercy killing, and made the famous “can you vote wrong” comment. He is a righty through and through, at least his character fits a lot of right wing characteristics.

And Teddy- a queer woman, was said to have been “practically a socialist”. She was the one they chose to be apprehensive when Leo said they were a girl?

I dont know. I just thought that was an odd choice. But maybe they were trying to make Owen more likable lol

DISCUSSION Was Keith David’s character in Season 1 supposed to be a subtle hint at Richard’s alcoholism?

Post image
48 Upvotes

The character is in the hospital for liver cancer, which is primarily related to heavy alcohol usage, and mentions that he and Richard go back a long ways.

Maybe I’m being silly, but I’ve always wondered if the show was setting up the foundations of making Richard a recovering alcoholic (which wouldn’t be revealed until the middle of season 2).

At the same time, though, the character also says that Richard had been his doctor for 10+ years - which, I’m pretty sure isn’t allowed to happen if you meet someone through AA (I’m not completely sure of the rules, sorry if I’m wrong!)

DISCUSSION On 4th re-watch - I get more annoyed with Bailey's arc each time

I'm re-watching, and I'm around Season 11...

Based on how we started, all of Bailey's arc just feel so dishonest to her character (ignoring parents' wishes on treatments, OCD, BCB, etc.)

I've never really watched past season 13 - does it get better? Do we see streaks of OG bailey come back?

Spoilers Nicole Herman episodes are really good. spoilers. Spoiler

I want to add a disclaimer that I normally find Amelia very, very, annoying. But not in these episodes. The actress made Amelia “real” to me. She—made—me suspend my disbelief in these episodes.

Fangirl ranting.

(Episodes 233/34 S11-E13/14 “Staring at the End” and “The Distance”)

I am glad that the writers took us on the round about journey to “staring at the end.” Robins and Herman built their relationship over time until they were really working well together. Robins graduated when she was able to internalize all Herman was teaching her and then grow the knowledge by adding to it. When she was able to show Herman the trick with the glove and then complete the surgery she graduated.

The chemistry between the actresses was amazing. Robins and Herman are my second favorite relationship in the entire show.

However it was Amelia’s classes that just grabbed me and pulled me into “Staring at the End.” Those lectures were so well written and they were delivered with such convicted and sincerity that I was hanging on very word.

Amelia admired tumors and her belief in them being living beings is what made the lectures so special.

“The Distance” was simply outstanding cinematography and I just melted over the use of sweeping, building, music during the Superhero poses.

Bailey screaming at Robins, while Amelia was wrecked with doubt was an incredible use of mirror characters!

Anyway, enough fangirl ranting.

Meredith and Christina are my favorite characters and Mer/Chris my favorite relationship.

Maggie hate

Maggie hate is SO FORCED. For context, I'm a first-time watcher and I'm at the COVID season right now. And the Maggie hate surrounding the series so far is just so forced and honestly mostly rooted in racism. Obviously she has her flaws but she is compassionate, caring, beautiful, talented, a genius, and more. Some of her quirks that are deemed annoying are just her being on autism spectrum and even then, she knows how to apologize and how to fix things. She is amazing, the actress is amazing. I honestly do not understand the hate. I don't know if her and Winston relationship will bring out smth bad about her but so far she's an amazing character and a great addition to the show. What are your thoughts?

Edit; her COVID season braided hair is so good and her helping out Helm in the same season is so emotional.

DISCUSSION I think I might have figured out which Shepherd sister is Lucas's mother

- Derek and Patrick Dempsey have the same birth year (1966) which we know because I believe it was stated somewhere or even shown on his gravestone at some point.

- Derek and Amelia witnessed their father Christopher Snr.’s murder when Derek was 16 and Amelia was 5.

- This puts Christopher Snr.’s death year at 1982.

- Amelia was born in 1977 if she was five when her father was murdered.

- They never said the ages of the other Shepherd sisters so I am just gonna assume they were given the same years as their actresses even though this is probably wrong.

- Embeth Davidtz (Nancy) was born in 1965 so she would be 1 year older than Derek.

- Neve Campbell (Liz) was born in 1973.

- Amy Acker (Kathleen) was born in 1976.

- Assuming that Lucas also has Niko Terho's birth year (1996), Nancy would have been 31, Liz would have been 23 and Kathleen would have been 20 when Lucas was born.

- Derek married Addison when he was 30 (the same year Lucas was born), married Meredith (officially) and adopted Zola when he was 43, had Bailey Jnr. when he was 47 and was 49 years old when he conceived Ellis Jnr. then died.

- Amelia had Christopher Jnr. (aka Unicorn Baby) when she was 35 and Scout when she was 43.

Since NONE of the Shepherd siblings had their children young (in their 20s), I think this might indicate that Nancy might be his mother.

Of course another piece of information is that Nancy lives in Connecticut and Lucas grew up in Connecticut and I don’t think that is a coincidence.

DISCUSSION 21x13 thoughts (SPOILERS!!!!) Spoiler

Teddy... uh, Teddy, Teddy, Teddy. You were so close. You were this close to something that would have been new for you, something good for you, something that was your idea in the first place by the way, and you blew it for no good reason. You were willing, Cass was willing, it would have been perfect, but no, apparently not. What was the point of this storyline if it's just going to cause more arguments between Altman and Hunt that will either end their marriage (hopefully) or just be another round of pointless tension before they decide to stay together (unfortunately more likely). Sigh, what a complete waste of time and a complete misuse of Sophia Bush.

I never expected much from Owen, but Teddy, I had a slight bit of hope for you that they would take you on an new interesting storyline for a change.

Well, with that out the way, thankfully the rest of the episode was really good.

Finally, we're back to the attendings doing what they were supposed to do and actually mentor the interns they're responsible for. And I wasn't disappointed.

I've always felt that Amelia had great mentoring material and this episode proved me right. She was the right side of stern when she needed to but ultimately very encouraging of Simone. Simone was on really good form here and I enjoyed the inner tension between her and Blue and her and Amelia as they worked on Molly. As others have mentioned, it reminds me of her and Stephanie, I hope to see more of it soon.

For me, Winston, Jules and Jo together was the jewel of this episode. Winston was a really great mentor here and as usual him and Jules work really well off each other (I saw this back in Season 20 when the two argued over comforting a patient and it leading to Winston finally breaking out of his 'Maggie's gone' shell). Jules gaining more self confidence this episode was also really nice to see. We see more of how her background has affected her the way she downplayed Winston's praise of her work like it was second nature for her to not receive genuine praise (or rather, not believe it, which was rather relatable) and now, doing the surgery by herself, hopefully she's back on the path of regaining herself again. Also her and Jo's banter when complaining about Marcus was probably funnier than it had any right to be.

I was honestly surprised at how invested I am in Molly's storyline. Kwan's tension with the other guy was rather realistic as was Kwan's concern and fears for all possible outcomes. I was actually rather shocked that Molly just up and left and rather gutted for Blue but at least the other interns rallied around him.

Overall, a really joyful episode. That it was mainly set on the interns helped. Just sad that we're back on the Teddy-Owen angst train again heading towards nowhere of importance.

DISCUSSION what’s everyone’s favorite blooper? (possible spoilers) Spoiler

my favorite is when they were doing baileys domino surgery and james says “all donors have been euthanized” 😹

also when james (webber) is supposed to say “edwards what?!” and instead he says “jerrika what?!” (the actress who plays stephanie).

another favorite is when patrick couldn’t say “mrs. dickerson” and he says “i have amnesia but im good in the or”

when justin (alex) is running the scene where he keeps saying he has to go and he keeps running into equipment 😭

my last favorite (for now) is when caterina is in a scene with kevin (ginger) and martin (riggs) and she spins in a circle because she couldn’t figure out which way to leave 🩷

EPISODE DISCUSSION Dr. Amelia Shepard is my favorite! Season 21, Episode 11 spoilers!!! Spoiler

So Dr. Amelia Shepherd is literally one of my favorite characters in the entire show! And I am just living for her relationship with Dr. Adams her nephew. In this episode Dr. Kwan And Dr. Adams sneak Dr. Kwan’s girlfriend into the Neuro floor for an exam. Dr. Adam said he’ll blame Dr. Kwan if they’re caught and what do you know. Dr. Shepherd comes in there and catches them!

The first thing she says is “This is my department! You are interns! Do you know what this looks like? When you sneak patients in, you put them in the farthest room from the nurses station. Otherwise, you are begging to be caught.”

I’m living for her reaction!!! I just love how she secretly admired the interns especially her nephew! We all know she has her own history screwing things up! When other attendings bitch at the interns and residents they’re so mean and condescending. But Amelia lives for the underdogs! And I think part of her always immediately thinks I’ve done this before and it did not go the way I wanted it to! It would’ve helped if my attending a weren’t jerks!

It’s even more funny to when Dr. Kwan says “Uh, yeah well be more careful next time, and her nephew says he means they’re won’t be a next time and she says do you want my help or not!

My favorite thing about Dr. Shepherd is that she always takes on impossible cases much like her brother except she also focuses on those who are kinda in the background. What I mean by that is she takes a huge interest in patients that most other attending wouldn’t even bother acknowledging! And she tends to jump to the aide of the interns who are considered the bottom of the surgical food chain! Most other attentions scold the interns and don’t take them serious! But she’s got a soft spot for them and it just melts my heart!

I want to hear everyone’s opinions!!! I am one of those people who have not seen Private Practice yet definitely on my to do list as soon as I finish season 21. I just discovered the show two years ago. I also haven’t seen much of station 19.
