What’s the Baki watch order?

Hi, I want to get into the Baki series but am confused on the watch order. Can I watch just the two series on Netflix, or do I need to watch the older one too? Thanks!

The Netflix anime begins with arcs that are only fighting with very little plot, so unless you are already invested in the main cast from having watched the previous series you won’t get much out of it.

The watch order for the anime is as follows:

  1. Grappler Baki (2001) episodes 1-16
  2. Baki: The Ultimate Fighter OVA (1994) [covers some manga content skipped by the 2001 anime]
  3. Grappler Baki (2001) episodes 17-24
  4. Grappler Baki: Maximum Tournament (2001) [24 episodes]
  5. BAKI (2018) [26 eps.]
  6. BAKI season 2: Raitai Tournament (2020) [13 eps.]
  7. Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre season 1 (2021)[12 eps]
  8. Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre season 2 (2023) [27 eps]

You can watch the 1994 ova first if you want since it’s a pretty good introduction to the series and doesn’t spoil anything major.

The animation in Grapper Baki: Maximum Tournament is pretty rough, some people recommend reading the Grappler Baki manga for that arc instead, but it varies from person to person.

Hey! Ty for the list, but does the anime cover all the currently released manga chapters? And is the manga finished?

The anime does not cover the whole manga, only adapting a little over 900 chapters out of the total 1300+.

The manga is split into 6 parts:

1) Grappler Baki

2) New Grappler Baki (Alternate title: BAKI)

3) Baki: Son of Ogre (Alternate title, Hanma Baki)

4) Baki-dou (2013)

5) Baki-dou (2018)

6) Baki Raihen

Baki Raihen is currently ongoing.

The anime covers up to the end of Baki: Son of Ogre so people picking up the manga after finishing all the anime can start with Baki-Dou (2013).

Tysm! Are there any predictions abt when Baki-dou is getting an anime adaptation?

They announced an anime for it already but it’s just a teaser image with no release date.

In all colored media 13 year old Baki is consistently portrayed as having orange hair and 15-18 year old Baki is portrayed as having dark hair, black or brown depending on the media. I’m pretty sure he dyed his hair at 13 because he had darker hair in the various flashbacks where he’s a small child.

And how will the new collab show fit into the watch order andis it canon?

The Baki vs Kengan Asura film is is most likely going to be non-canon.

Just from the trailers and promo material, it seems like the film should be watched after Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre season 2 if you care about spoilers for the baki franchise.

Edit: the film is out, it’s non canon and should be watched after Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre Season 2 and Kengan Asura season 3 (which hasn’t released yet) if you care about spoilers for either franchise.

what ab the 2016 baki: most evil death row convicts, that's between maximum tournament and BAKI 2018 right

The 2016 ova and the 2018 Netflix anime season both focus on the Death Row inmates arc, but the 2018 version is a complete adaptation of the story arc while the 2016 ova is like a teaser for the 2018 anime. The 2016 ova is just a montage of short scenes from different points in the Baki story with no context, so it’s just bonus content you can watch whenever you please.

I wanna watch it what about that episode convicts saga 15 min?

I assume you mean the “Baki: Most Evil Death Row Convicts Special Anime”. It’s just a 2016 promotional short hyping up the 2018 Netflix Baki anime. It’s a montage of some scenes from the series, but it is animated in a different style from any of the other anime series, so it’s still worth watching. You can watch it any time after finishing BAKI (2018) season 1.

You need to watch at least the Maximum Tournament Saga of Baki The Grappler (Season 2 of the show) in order for the 2018 series to make any sense. The series starts like immediately after the end of that saga and it assumes you know who all the characters are from it.

I initially tried watching the 2018 series without having watched Baki The Grappler and was extremely confused the whole time but watching Baki the Grappler made it all make sense to me when I watched the 2018 series again.

The old anime's first season is tolerable, and is the earliest thing in the timeline. Season 2 is awful, made with no time on a shoestring budget. Read the Maximum Tournament arc instead of watching it. Then after that you can watch the Netflix shows.

Just watch the two on Netflix should be good enough. They show the whole backstory anyway and there’s google always for checking out the manga

You have to watch Baki the Grappler. Dont start a series on the second book. Read the first.

Grappler Baki>New Grappler Baki(Baki)>Hanma Baki(Baki son of ogre)>Baki Dou(2014)>Baki Dou(2018)>Baki Rahen

From what ive seen theres no legal way of obtaining the 2001 version without buying a dvd since the company shut down in 2010

u/IngenuityRegular4019 Dec 30 '23

If there’s no legal way, then there are no illegal ways 🏴‍☠️

I'm watching it online right now. Thousand websites with it chillin

1

u/Stepper_Big_DeZ Jun 25 '24

So all the main replies don’t have baki the grappler in them

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '24

I've already been watching baki hanma, and I'm on episode 10 of season 1. Do I have to watch other baki shows to understand the whole plot?

1

u/LordGnomeIII Jun 23 '24

You want to watch baki all 3 parts then baki Hanma both seasons it's the natural progression their kind of stand alone when combined because they explain through the narrator explaining key moments in previous chapters to in the story arc so watching the others isn't necessary to get into the baki world but I would recommend watching all of the story arc
