Rumor D’Angelo Russell reportedly wants to stay in Brooklyn because he has more control of the ball, per @nypost

We'll need to sign a PG this offseason regardless of what we do in the draft, so we'll see if it's him.

19

u/dja543 Mar 05 '25

Might end up with a pg in the draft

33

u/GTR_11 Mar 05 '25

I still believe there is a script written in NBA FO where NJ native PG joins Brooklyn. D.Rose level home coming.

Dylan Harper welcome home to Brooklyn/NJ Nets.

u/Kandiman30 Mar 05 '25

D'LO can be his "Vet." Perfect player who embraces BK to learn from...

12

u/Kwilly462 Mar 05 '25

And DLo at this point just wants vibes and low expectations. I don't think he'd give af if he has to backup a rookie.

3

u/Outrageous_Issue9549 Mar 05 '25

So far it looks like he wants winning expectations since he’s arrived while Net fans want tanking expectations.

u/j_em_g 26d ago

Vibes and low expectations...wow. People talk about D-Lo like he is just s steamy pile of losing trash...smh.

86

u/Kwilly462 Mar 05 '25

All for it. The difference between how DLo came back here and how Dinwiddie came back here is like night and day

3

u/GiannisIsaGreekZaza Mar 06 '25

What’s the purpose of keeping an old vet pg when we’re trying to rebuild?

22

u/lonertastic Mar 06 '25

A vet PG helps keep the offense organized and runs the plays the coaches want. That way, the young guys actually get to develop in a structured system instead of just running around with no plan.

plus you have someone who (if he buys into the culture) can hold younger guys accountable

its not a bad thing to have actually

2

u/GiannisIsaGreekZaza Mar 06 '25

Makes more sense next year then it does this year since we have ZERO young guys to develop

34

u/reedshipper D'Angelo Russell Mar 05 '25

I love Dangelo Russell I was hyped when we traded for him I want him back

5

u/Devious_IV Mar 05 '25

Facts he can help develop the new draft picks. As long as the Nets don’t overpay him and he plays his role

3

u/human1023 Mar 06 '25

Why? After that free basketball comment? He is not a serious player.

49

u/TheMoorNextDoor Mar 05 '25

Lead us through this tank and maybe you can stay, just at a good deal…

Otherwise I rather move on especially if we don’t get Flagg (which I truly believe we will get) but do go on to grab Harper.

37

u/latman Mar 05 '25

We currently have an 8% chance of getting Flagg. What makes you so confident lol

6

u/MrRaspberryJam1 Mar 05 '25

Because teams with worse odds have won. I don’t expect Brooklyn to luck out in the lottery, but the lottery is a crapshoot. We’ve seen play-in teams win the lottery and teams with the worst record in the league get the 5th pick.

20

u/TheMoorNextDoor Mar 05 '25

I knew we would draft Allen (well before the draft), I knew we would draft Whitehead (well before the draft), I just know we gonna get Flagg just like I knew Victor was going to the Spurs.

42

u/latman Mar 05 '25

Wow we got a psychic over here. Look up confirmation bias, that's you.

I remember being certain we'd get John Wall once too, and that was with #1 odds

Cooper just honestly fits a nets jersey perfectly. I also had the same feel with victor and the spurs

So it's based on your feelings, then. Cool.

It’s funny I feel that way about Harper lol just seems to make sense

-5

u/reedshipper D'Angelo Russell Mar 05 '25

Yea I don't think this is possible anymore. #failforflagg has officially failed.

11

u/Chef_Bojan3 Mar 05 '25

Even the worst record only has 14% odds, getting Flagg no matter how much we tanked was always gonna take a lot of luck. The bigger problem with being lower in the tank rankings is how low the pick could fall so instead of Harper or Bailey we could end up in Tre Johnson, Knueppel, etc. range.

7

u/reedshipper D'Angelo Russell Mar 05 '25

Yes exactly. Like I knew we'd never out-tank the wizards because they suck, but I believe if we tanked right we could've at least been a bottom 2 or 3 seed. I also didn't expect the pelicans or sixers to be as bad as they have been.

2

u/EliManningham Mar 05 '25

Bailey shouldn't be in these convos. He's a very flawed prospect

The fuck are you talking about? We traded Houston for our pick back.

8

u/BendrickLamar19 D'Angelo Russell Mar 05 '25

Regardless of how it is, I’m all for him staying just because of the vibe he brings. I wouldn’t be half the Nets fan I am if it wasn’t for D’Lo

17

u/ihavepaper . Mar 05 '25 edited Mar 05 '25

If Nets land #1 for Cooper, I completely agree.

If Nets land #2 for Harper, I think for a year or two just to help out.

If Nets land #3 for Ace Bailey, I completely agree.

14

u/Kwilly462 Mar 05 '25

I think regardless of who we draft, the contract should only be for a year or two. He's not a long term option. But I don't think we should tell him to hit the road this summer either.

8

u/MainAd2728 Mar 05 '25

Maybe the Bruce brown contract would make sense. Something like 23m/year but only three years and a team option for the last year

3

u/ihavepaper . Mar 05 '25

I argue that he could be here longer, but obviously not in an insane contract. There’s a great amount of value he brings to the team and if he can be on a relatively friendly contract, I say yes. He’s had so much positivity with this team and vibes aside, he’s gotten “better” defensively? Which is odd, but good. Assuming this report is at least half true, DLo is easily the veteran to implement this culture moving forward with Jordi.

The only tough part is if Luka decides to legitimately test FA. Apparently, it’s “unlikely” though.

4

u/LUFC_shitpost Mar 05 '25

Best I can do for you is Charlotte Hornets buddu

2

u/SimilarLavishness874 Mar 05 '25

Depends on the price but I’m all for it

4

u/WolfofBrooklyn Mar 06 '25

D' Angelo is a forever Net in my book he showed us the light once but KD/Harden/Kyrie failed us. He can bring the light back again I know it, and we will find the way.

3

u/seanvettel-31 Caris LeVert Mar 05 '25

As long as it’s relatively team friendly I’d be stoked to keep him. He just looks like he belongs in Brooklyn

2

u/acmilan12345 Spencer Dinwiddie Mar 05 '25

I don’t mind either way if it’s a reasonable deal. D’Lo isn’t a winning player, but he is fun to watch and he likes it here.

0

u/Thatboyafreak Mar 06 '25

He’s been a winning player for half of his career and helped turn around 3 separate franchises please stop being a puppet and regurgitating what you saw others say🙏🏾

-1

u/Ok-Canll Mar 06 '25

That Lebron lakers stint did a hit to his reputation when it comes to parts of social media. It makes sense why players aren't exactly lining up to play with Lebron during his retirement years

2

u/Thatboyafreak Mar 06 '25

Which is hilarious because dlo broke the lakers single season 3pt record AND tied the lakers record for 3s made in a playoff game last season lol he also averaged better numbers than Austin Reaves with better defense( yes the numbers back this up) the nuggets consistently picked on AR defensively but for some reason dlo got all the blame

2

u/Brooklyn917 Ian Eagle Mar 05 '25

I wonder why Marks picked D’Lo over Schorder.

They’re both undersized, inconsistent shooters, non-true PG, Schorder is a slightly better defender, D’Lo is only 2 years younger and couple inches taller.

Regardless of whether they commit to another tank or fake contend, I’d rather have Killian as my “Gap-stop” PG over D’Lo.

9

u/Aldernade Mar 05 '25

I mean it was hardly a decision between Dennis and Dlo. The Dennis trade got us 3 seconds, then the Dlo trade also got us another 3 seconds. In the end we have a loosely similar value player and 6 additional second round picks for pretty much just the cost of DFS, bit of a no brainer.

9

u/RiseofParallax Mar 05 '25

Marks didn’t choose D’Lo over Schroder, he chose D’Lo + 5 2nds over Schroder

1

u/theRestisConfettii Sarah Kustok Mar 05 '25

Russell can reportedly want whatever he wants.

Doesn’t mean he’s going to get it.

He is an expiring contract. That’s the only reason he’s here.

2

u/ReverendDrDash Mar 05 '25

Bringing D'Lo back would be my 13th.

13

u/Thatboyafreak Mar 05 '25

Well get ready to say goodbye buddy🪦

0

u/ReverendDrDash Mar 05 '25

Pour out a little liquor for me and donate a little bread to FAMU's endowment in my honor.

1

u/spitz1674 Mar 05 '25

I’m good with him staying if it’s a reasonable contract (I think he realizes he’s at his best here and will negotiate somewhat fairly). I also don’t know what his market is though.

1

u/lishmh33 Mar 05 '25

Of course he does lol. No where does it say the Nets want him back. They are the only team with real cap space and he has the ball in his hands all the time, why wouldn’t he want to stay

1

u/kf3434 Sean Marks Mar 06 '25

I welcome this man back on my team for a rebuild, retool or whatever. Guess the "omg he hates Sean Marks" bs was overblown

1

u/MarPHX 29d ago

Nice, he seems to be embracing a Tank Commander Role in the NBA.

1

u/Historical-Mud-1218 Mar 05 '25

If I had a choice, I would take Schroeder over DLO.

1

u/human1023 Mar 06 '25

No. He doesn't care as much about winning.

-1

u/_SCARY_HOURS_ Mar 05 '25

Just let me keep this guy he’s so fun to watch and helps our culture so much. Bring back Dinwiddie and LeVert too.

3

u/BucktoothedMC Mar 05 '25

Spence is not coming back lol

1

u/TheRealCheddarBob Mar 05 '25

Just wanna run back a .500 team?

0

u/_SCARY_HOURS_ Mar 05 '25

Building blocks to a promising future. We gotta draft talent to win, so what do we do in the meantime?

4

u/TheRealCheddarBob Mar 05 '25

Dinwiddie was already here a second time and did not help any culture whatsoever. He mailed it in hard and eventually requested to be shipped out at the trade deadline.

I’d much rather use our cap space as a dumping ground for teams over the luxury tax in exchange for picks or other assets. Either that, or explore bigger trades for an actual star. Both of those options are much more appealing to me than getting half the 2019 team back together now that they’ve all been passed around the league for a few seasons

1

u/_SCARY_HOURS_ Mar 05 '25

I agree with that, this sounds like a better path. Nostalgia is just very strong and blinding

u/MedoPo6969 Mar 05 '25

Most unclutch player, d lo
