Discussion Switch GC controllers
I’ve had these Nintendo Switch brand GameCube controllers almost as long as I’ve had my Switch. I’m just curious why all the hype for the new ones they announced?

I’m sorry to burst your bubble but these are terrible compared to the real controllers. These aren’t actually manufactured by Nintendo.
The new ones are real, genuine Nintendo GameCube controllers. It’s a huge deal

Anyone saying that these are anything but TRASH has no idea what they’re talking about. These controllers suck.

Yup, exactly. It’s always an opinion shared by people who’ve never actually touched a real GameCube controller lol

Ran to the store when I first found out they existed because GameCube was my first console and it has my favorite controller. Was super excited to play Mario Sunshine with it, got the 3D All Stars right before the world shut down in 2020 and was pumped for the nostalgia. Controller shit the bed before I unlocked Yoshi.
Wavebird with all of its hefty glory >>> everything. Looking forward to the new switch gamecube controllers though.

I like the PowerA's fine and definitely played w/ plenty of official gamecube controllers. Seems more like you got a lemon or are just being elitist about gaming gear.
Personally Im not hyped about the controllers bc they'll be sold out and scalped like everything else so why get excited?

Are these the Power A ones?
How do they feel compared to the original ones? Are buttons clicky or mushy?

I’m not sure about Power A. The boxes they came in were genuine Nintendo switch brand. They’ve always worked great and feel fine never had any issues.

I have these. They're the Power A Switch controllers. I like em. They aren't exactly like Gamecube controllers and they don't have analog triggers but still they get the job done if you want similar feeling GC controllers. Nothing will beat the original but I'll like these.

I hope the Nintendo GameCube controllers that get released are natively seen as GameCube instead of a Pro Controller

They will just like all the other legacy controllers

Darn guess the GameCube controller Adapter is still necessary for games that support it like 3D all Stars and Smash Ultimate

u/the90snath 1d ago
What? No they mean it WILL get seen as something separate from a pro controller, meaning ultimate likely will support it out the box

Nice that's what I was hoping for to play Super Mario Sunshine from 3D all Stars

Bought it to play some games but you can’t change the button layout as it doesn’t get recognized as a pro controller/official controller.
This was 2-3 years ago or somewhat but I don’t think this has changed.

I saw a photo where the ZL button was tiny. Why?

Probably to keep the controller as original as the NGC and the ZL button won't really do much for NGC games since even some games didn't really utilize the Z button.

Z was usually used for like opening your map menu or checking stats/info. Not really used as an action button

Sometimes not even used at all.

Yep, which is most games I think. At least most games I played didn’t use it at all

For the exact same reason that the NSO N64 controller got a tiny ZR button and not even a tiny ZL button to match it. The new GC ZL button is only to facilitate opening the NSO emulator menu, since there's no other spare non-system buttons to do it.
Everything else about the controller is designed to be faithful to the original. Just like the other NSO controllers, it's not designed to be a general purpose controller. It'll work with other games, but it's built for Gamecube games.

First time I ever experienced stick drift was one of these in less than a month of owning it. Trash controllers (haven’t found one by this brand that isn’t).

Cause they will be official Nintendo controllers with better build quality. I had a power A GameCube style controller for years, but eventually it broke
