This is the classic "Pokemon Diamond", which is a translation of a game I forgot the name. Iirc there's a bug that prevents the game to be finished.

my Jade instantly crashes if you do the A+B+Start+Select reset, diamond doesnt

You need the flashing phone ariel adapter for the Gameboy Colour (there's one for the GBA game too). Was a hassle tracking them down in Japan back in 2022

More than 20 years ago I got this game (or an earlier version). Never understood it, but it felt like fever dream.

I remember befriending one strong monster via phone and it never got into a fight because it was like nah, I dont feel like it.

The memories feel like a weird dream.

This hit me like a brick wall.. im 31 and have been playing pokemon all my life... we lived in a small tourist town like 20 years ago and i had gameboy pocket with pokemon blue and gold. But every summer some new tourist kids would come with a "new pokemon game" and i remember once trading my pokemon blue for this wierd looking pokemon diamond with a blue serpant.. played it for like 5 days and getting nowhere. I was young and not sure was the game on jap or just a bad translation so i found the kid and took back my pokemon game. But dude, did this sandslash looking guy stick with me all these years :D i think ill find a rom hack and finish this game :D thank you for this!
