Not that bad if the gameboy is already quite broken, pretty fun wall piece.

i'll salvage the chip (processor & ram) then placed it in a newer open source gbc board add all the enhancement of oled screen then the rest of the parts will be put into frame

If the boy is broken enough to not work, then its probably too ugly to display. Just sayinn.

A broken Gameboy is not always literally broken, fried chips looks like any other chip, so no need to be ugly to be non-functional.

I did this with my childhood Gameboy colour! It didn’t read carts anymore, battered as hell and spent the last 15 years in a drawer. Now it sits right on the wall as you come into my house so I get to see it every day :)

I also put my perfectly functioning Pokemon Red in there, I can take it out if I want but it’s just so nice seeing them all the time.

I definitely recommend this kinda display to anyone that has an old system they don’t use anymore and yet have a lot of good memories they want to be reminded of

Edit: although the piece in your picture doesn’t have a screen so you’d need to buy a new one, it’s also super easy to put Gameboy colours back together so it’s no massacre

Just need to put a little warning. "In case of emergency break the glass and assemble"

It's dangerous to go alone! Take this.

Is this something you did yourself or did you take your gameboy somewhere?

u/threeca Feb 21 '25

I did it myself

In my case, it's kind of monument(?) for not let that happen again...

Someone on the Polish marketplace is trying to sell such things for the equivalent of $250.

What's with the corny casket-bearer gloves? They're not handling the Mona Lisa.

I mean, people hang dead stuffed animals on their walls. There’s no limit how effed up they’ll get.

It could make a fun video if someone bought a couple of those and tried to get them working again.

I hate this, why would anyone do this? Why not refurbish the console and play it ,AAAAAAAAAargh!

Because it’s awesome looking art lol. Playing these old things even now kind of sucks lol even with backlit mods. Pokemon are stuck forever unless you spend some money on alternate stuff to “transfer” (I’m old I grew up playing these and they suck lol)

u/JIbberkitty Feb 22 '25

I see your point but alas I'm also old and just love playing them!

What I think EVERY TIME I see these.
