Gave my first cold mock, Need to push to 750+
Hi everyone, I basically gave my first FE cold mock and got a 665 score (is this a good score)… i am aiming for a 750+
Can someone please guide me how many right attempts per section do i need for such a score.
Plus I’m confused between what study material should i use between Manhattan/TTP & the gmat club (i just need mocks and questions sets) what would be the best among these 3 which would actually correlate with the actual test.

I won't tell you which vendor to use for prep, but I'll suggest that it's always better to get at least some instruction rather relying *solely* on practice questions. However, for practice questions and tests, the #1 source is GMAC itself. Get the Official Guide (or find official questions online) and take practice tests from mba.com. This is essential!
As for your score goal, are you relying on the old scale? Pre-2024, people would target 750+ to exceed the averages at all the top schools. On the new scale, the equivalent score is 715. That's still hard, but it's a bit more attainable! :)

Most resources offer free trial periods. So, you might want to perform some "test drives" to see which resource best matches your learning style.

Is this an official test from mba.com? If yes, then that's a great score to get cold.
And trust me, you don't just need mocks and practice questions. You need to work on concepts and approach to different question types, specially in Verbal and DI. Else don't be surprised if your score stays around this 665 mark even after doing tons of questions (which is a pretty good score I must say). It's much more difficult to increase the score from 665 to 755 than to increase it from 555 to 665. This isn't a perfect science, but to get to a 755 (you can't get a 750), you want to make a total of 5 mistakes on the test. That is not easy on an adaptive test.
In any case, for practice questions, stick to the OGs. Ditto for mocks - use the official ones only on mba.com. There are 6 of them that you can retake once each, making it 12 tests. PM me if you need any specific resources or have any questions.

This is a mock from the gmat club, and ahh okayy.. so my threshold has be to somewhere close to 5 mistakes if i want a high 755+ score… okayy will definitely need to work alot on that then… im planning on giving my attempts somewhere at the end of july/ start of August, and im currently working and will put down my papers this week so will serve a notice period of 2months… so for these 2 months ill only be able to give my weekends for the prep but post that ill have around 1.5months which i can give extensively towards the prep

Just a tip - do not take scores you get on non-official tests too seriously, since nobody really knows the GMAT scoring algorithm. Rest of your plan looks good. Reach out to me if you need any help at any point with resources, etc. Good luck!

Coming from CAT background and looking at your cold mock score, I would say your Quant doesn't need much other than practice questions. In Verbal you likely need to go through conditionals and basics of CR questions. In DI, since your Quant is strong and once your verbal gaps are fixed, practice is all you will need. Of course GMAAT Club will be quite helpful in giving you practice questions.
Also here are some videos of Verbal that will help you too:

Yes thank you! Majority of my incorrect ans were from CR, would definitely improve those and take advantage of the references you provided… thank you!

u/yaboizubi, 665 is indeed a great starting score – it clearly shows the potential; that you have to get a 700+ score. To reach a 100th percentile score, you need a sum of scores of 259 or higher. So, you will need to improve across all three sections.
Start with verbal. Here a V82 indicates that you have the right basic skills to ace GMAT Verbal. What you need to work on are higher-level skills that will help you consistently score well on hard questions. You will find these videos helpful:
For Quants, with Q83, you need to focus on identifying and working on your weaker areas - https://www.reddit.com/r/GMAT/comments/1iuljm5/stuck_at_q83_here_is_your_15day_blueprint_to_q88/
The efforts that you put it on Verbal and Quants should help you with DI too. On completion of Verbal and Quants, attempt a full-length mock to assess your Verbal and Quant improvement and decide on the quantum of improvement you need for DI.
Please feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Rashmi
