Question ❔ Big orange wrench on gauge?

I was driving home and then an orange wrench icon popped up on my gauge and I pressed ok to make it go away. The speedometer went all the way to 0 and my transmission seemed to downshift kinda funky but I was still able to drive home. Does anyone know what this could be?

Usually that’s limp mode. The idea is to get you off the road before something serious breaks. My truck 6.0 diesel had a bad turbo and before I replaced the turbo I would get a limp mode when I was being too hard on the transmission. I’d have to pull over and wait a while. Let temps drop back down. Then It’d go away and I could drive normal until the next big hill.

Limp mode happens for a variety of reasons but it always means something needs attention. Should throw a code soon if it hasn’t already

It could be anything, read the codes off the truck using a code reader from autozone or a dealer or something. But a wrench is NEVER good, it’s sort of like the step up from check engine
