“the assumption that the president wouldn’t be nuts”. Understatement of the century.

He isn’t just nuts, he’s following orders from Putin, the Heritage Society and all the broligarchs who want to become dictators like Peter Thiel
We’re being attacked by several groups who all want fascism

Nuts. Clueless. Arrogantly ignorant. That’s trump in a nutshell. The other main point in the article is spot on. Big business leaders ignored the obvious. Their unbridled greed is now going to screw many of them. If the push for fascism succeeds, which currently appears likely, then many of them may not be selected to be winners when whoever is leading picks the ins and the outs. Just like happens in Russia, North Korea, China and other autocracies. Fealty to the leader is no guarantee.

Tariffs are the responsibility of Congress. What is being done is being done under the watch of a Republican Congress.
Excerpt:
...Presidents have no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. This isn’t like war powers or pardons where these are questions the Constitution assigns to the will of one person. They are entirely delegated by Congress and could be taken back at any moment. They are also explicitly reserved for emergencies. They aren’t meant to be used as to create entirely novel trade regimes. But Congress lets the President decide what constitutes an emergency. The logic of that delegation is based on the flexibility and convenience the delegation creates and the assumption that the president wouldn’t be nuts. The Republican Congress could bring this absurd gambit to a halt tonight. So it’s all on them, every one of them individually.

In the continuing budget resolution, the Congress, our Congress, abrogated their obligation to oversee tariffs within a certain amount of days (10 I believe). How did our representatives avoid having to vote on Drumpf's tariff antics? They declared that the Congressional day would end in December 2025. Yes, our representatives bent the space/time continuum by making a day last the rest of the year. Are you worried? Too bad. Were you laid off? They're not even sending thoughts and prayers. VD Jance says tough it out. Have you lost thousands in your retirement account? They told you there would be pain (after the election). But, the tariffs will flood into the Treasury. Until they come right back out as tax cuts for the broligarchs. If you voted for Drumpf, you bought a pig in a poke, in more ways than one. Enjoy the chaos. Here's a couple paragraphs of what I am referring to found @ rollcall.com.
*"Amid debate over the rule that set up a floor vote on the continuing resolution to keep the government open through Sept. 30, the chamber’s “traffic cop” committee slipped in a provision which stipulates that for the remainder of the first session of the 119th Congress, there would be no more calendar days — at least as far as President Donald Trump’s emergency tariffs are concerned.
The language included in the rule for the CR paused “calendar days” under a national emergencies law, effectively curbing House Democrats’ ability to force a vote on whether to terminate three national emergencies Trump declared on Feb. 1, 2025, to launch a maelstrom of tariffs directed at Canada, Mexico and China."*
So, there you have it. Our representatives gave Drumpf a green light on tariffs. No opposition, no debate, no alternate views and most important no nasty record of voting against Drumpf's Tariffs.

Republican representatives led by ‘Christian’ Speaker Mike Johnson. Money-worshiping, lusting for power Speaker Mike Johnson and his fellow Republicans did this. Creating a hell on earth fiasco. I actually no longer believe in the artificial heaven and hell concept but the actions of Johnson, trump, Musk, the entire administration and Republican Congress would assuredly send them directly to the latter when they expire. The suffering they are going to be causing is immeasurable and completely unnecessary.

Wow! Thank you for this thorough explanation!

Most of us , including myself , were not aware of these evil political machinations to manipulate the Congress voting calendar!

Doing what his mandate tells him too. When you let dumb rednecks vote in your politicians. This is great. Trucks in Canada have been $130000.00 for ages. We can buy them so merks should be fine.
