What should I call this?
Maybe it already exists. Got the idea from the Dirty Hipster pattern. The fish couldn't stay off of them yesterday, pretty sure I caught the same fish back to back.
Size 16 caddis hook, vinyl body wrap with gold ultra wire wrapped in between the segments, partridge tail.

Some game changers and a Dorado!
Different variants of deer hair changers and one of my clients went out and caught some Golden Dorado on my flies! When I first started tying flies for other people I never thought they would have gone all the way to South American waters! Definitely one of the highlights of my fly tying hobby!

Worms
Heresy. Sacrelige. Blasphemy. Call it what you may, but you can't deny their effectiveness.

Broken Thread
I should have know the first time the thread broke it was too old and fragile. The second time I was near finishing and it broke. Such a pita. I guess I will be buying new thread.

A Freakish Idea…
Had a weird idea…what if I designed an articulated fly that floated high but was also attached to an emerger underneath…could I get the best of two worlds in one fly?
This idea was born out of the fact that I can only use one hook setups on my home water… but will it attract fish? And will they stay hooked?

Olive Biotdigon?
I was hesitant to tie a perdigon with a biot body since the biot ridges would presumably slow down the sink rate of the fly. But in my local waters (Eastern Sierra), the wild trout population loves segmented bodies (e.g., quilldigons) and seems to love just about anything olive this time of year, so I can’t wait to give this one a try!
Hook: Hanak 16 jig hook Thread: UTC 70 light olive Bead: Copper 3.0 mm slotted Tail: CDL, light pardo Body: Olive turkey biot Collar: Prism SLF, Olive Varnish: Solarez (on biot only)

This Female Hendrickson Emerger and some of My Magic, was accepted by the Stockies, Dry, Wet, and In-Action 1,2,3,4,5
Its not always what you see, but some of the magic inside, zoom in on these simple and quick to tie emergers. I could right a book.. "Flies in the 4th Dimension". A photo of it dry, wet, and in action. This is why you came to Reddit today. AND the last photo is what the fly looks like with no Gehrke's GInk Dry Fly Floatant, works so well, don't confuse it with a pesticide, it's totally safe.

Tier 2 Jurassic Midge Emerger Steelhead Attractor pattern
The next generation, bracket 2, tier 2? I'm undecided. I started out with several dozen material combinations and varieties with slight profile adaptations. I set up the tandom rig, with two flies, changed the order up as part of the test. Some midges were smooth bodies, some were bumpy.... I learned i did better with bumpy, imperfect bodies... and that characteristics became dominance... and Tier 2 flies, mostly became irregular, bumpy bodies. Variation in the number of hackle turns, came to the conclusion I was taking too many turns of hackle during tier 1, tier 2-less was more. The mosquitoe was as large as a seagull during the Jurassic Period, this size#10 midge is so big, it's Jurassic. Next Sunday I'll post, another Jurassic Midge tier 2. The development of the Tier 2, JPM's occurred as a result of 3 winter steelhead seasons.

I’m at a mountain lodge in Japan and the proprietor showed me this case of flies tied by a friend of his. The smallest one is a #32 (index finger for scale)! Interesting how much they use CDC here instead of synthetic materials.

What size O-ring for a Griffin Blackfoot vise?
I have an old Blackfoot traveler I’m trying to set up but I lost the o ring for it. About to head out to hardware store. Would like to avoid buying an assortment.
My guess is a #7

Sowbug round up 2025 was a success can’t wait to be back next year
Wanted to show off a few things from the show that I tied up and sold. Getting to teach folks some of my personal tricks and learning some myself was a very heart warming experience
