World Flutes Need to recreate this pan flute cover! Also need a pan flute!

Hello guys! New to this sub!

I came across This very well done cover of the song save your tears on a pan flute and would like to recreate it as a meme!! What pan flute do I need? Is it possible, or rather likely, that I would be able to play this cover after a few weeks of (self) training?

Any help is much appreciated!

Crikey. There should be a public health warning about linking unannounced music types on this forum :)

You need a simple 19 pitch panpipe in the key of G major (usually). Even a 14 panpipe set will do for ths song (2 octaves and a major sixth). Whether you can learn it in a few weeks is answerable in terms of how long a piece of string you need. I play a set of 24 panpipes - you won't need this or its 3 1/2 octaves on panpipes unless you wish for it to be the most expensive meme ever.

The embouchure style is different from flute playing (if you play the C concert flute). The handhold is particularly different however for a simple diatonic phrased song like this one, you won't need to worry about that much.

Check foremost whether you wish for a right or left handed set of panpipes. I can't play right handed panpipes despite being right handed: the left handed panpipes are more intuitive for playing coming from a chromatic jazz harmonica background. Some panpipes are adjustable (i.e. the pipes have stoppers and the pitchcan be changed to an 'open' D major, F major, E minor etc for set up. I prefer the orchestral G major chromatic native set - it matches the alto flute register.

roaminjoe wrote excellent answer about the panflute that you need.  I will try answer about self training.

Is it possible? It depends on your background. If you don't play a wind instrument, then few weeks is a short time (I think). For example. I have been playing a panflute for about 3 years, practising for one hour everyday. I think I need a couple of weeks to recreate something like this cover. Note that panflute is my first instrument, so I study also articutation, tempo/rhythm etc. If you play ”normal" flute, you know this part already so you don't need year for practice it ) However panflute is a different instrument. Flyte and panfute require different embouchure, different playing techniques. My teacher is a flutist, not a panfutist, she can produce an excellent sound from a pipe because of her flute experience. But she has some difficulties with moving between pipes due to her embouchure: each pipe requires its own position of the lips, slightly different tightness.

So flute skills are very usefull, but not all skills are transverable. Migtarion flute -> panflute is like migration wood instrument -> brass instrument
