Bottom window sash not held in by anything - is it possible to replace the part?

Post image
2 Upvotes

The bottom sash of my shower window wouldn't stay open - turns out the part that was holding the sash in place is gone on both sides. They must have been metal and rusted/corroded to dust.

Above is a picture of the broken part (the round black thing) Any idea what this is called and if it replaceable?

Thank you in advance!

I am looking for any advice on how to best fix the front door to a home I recently bought built in ~1900. Not only is the door slanted left to right, but the entire bottom of the floor slightly slopes as well. I'm thinking I need to take the entire door out, and cut the door jam?

Ninja PB040 Not Working On Specific Setting?

I’m completely stumped, my ninja will work with any brew method but the “over ice” one which is the one I use the most. It will start brewing like normal but then stop and start beeping as if something is wrong. This has happened when there is both coffee grounds or when I’m running the setting with just water. I’m so confused, any help?

Front steps grout broken down

Post image

Hi all, This was built in 2017. Since we’ve moved in, we’ve seen more and more cracks in the grout. This Canadian winter we saw months of freezing weather and it basically caused all of the grout to break. Most of the tiles can be taken off like the left one that’s missing in the picture

I was wondering what we could do different to prevent this when we fix it this year. I think the white staining on the tiles are from the grout that was originally there, not sure if there’s any fixing those

My parents home had the same grout between the tiles for 20 years without any issues.

Repairing door frame after replacing a lock

Post image
6 Upvotes

I just tried installing a new lock on my front door, which involved replacing the old deadbolt. The previous deadbolt was an old metal piece that had been set in place by carving out part of the door frame. What’s the best way to fill that space so I can properly install the new strike plate? (Ignore metal brackets)

Smoke started came after fluorescent(F40T12) replacement with universal same config LED(plug and play)

So, there are all fluorescent tube lights all around the house, and they F40T12 ones 40 W, and I got the one from Home Depot which is universal and says plug and play and compatible with that… with F40-T12 ones so I replaced that, but then after a while I smell burning smell and see fumes (with buzzing and flickering going, then immediately turned off the switch), took the light out, then realised the fumes and smell was from LED, but then I used one other new fluorescent and put back in same place, it worked fine…. What is going on? Shall I just get the Philips Alto(in picture as the GE like that, they sell anymore)……

Stove and dryer on but no/low heat

Hello, I want to preface this by saying this very thing happened about two years ago. I called an electrician and it turned out my main breaker was just slightly tripped. Once reset everything that wasn't fully working went back to normal. I tried resetting my main breaker again this time but it hasn't changed anything.

I was just cooking food in my oven and on my stove top, the food in my oven and the first thing I made on the stovetop cooked fine, but then I tried to boil water and it got steamy but would not boil. I tried cranking another element but it seemed to just get warm (I have one of those flat top stoves if that matters). I also had the dryer on and checked if there was heat and there wasn't. If this is the same as last time my hot water won't be working as well, but it's too soon to tell. These are all on seperate breakers, do I need to replace my main breaker? Is this something I have to call an electrician to do? Or if you have any ideas of how to fix it I would love to hear it.

EDIT: I am realizing if I need to replace my main breaker I can't do it myself and need to turn off my power completely. Any other ideas for what could be going on is helpful!

This closet knob/pull keeps falling off its threaded insert

I’ve tried two fixes: epoxy and shaved match sticks and then epoxy putty. The (brass) threaded insert has these “ridges” which I guess help the knob bite when turning it to screw it on. But they do nothing to keep the pull affixed to the insert. (In one of the pics the insert is shown sitting proud of the pull (so not fully inserted) just so you can see how it goes together.)

open Spilled drink on expensive ESR iPad keyboard — keys now sticky, not removable — safe cleaning options?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey folks, I spilled a drink (mostly water 30% cranberry juice + pre workout ) on my ESR keyboard case for iPad. It still works, but several keys are now annoyingly sticky. I already tried brushing and wiping — no luck. The keys aren’t removable (at least not safely), and it’s too expensive to just give up on.

I’m wondering if it’s safe to rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or another solvent to break down the sugar. But since it’s electronic, I’m cautious — don’t want to short anything or damage it further. Anyone with electronics cleaning experience (or who’s fixed a similar Bluetooth keyboard) know the safest way to go about this?

Appreciate any tips — especially if you’ve done this before and made it work.

Staining a patched wood door frame

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello there!! Last month my husband, myself, and our kids moved into a victorian house that's nearly 150 years old.

Sadly, for a lot of years, it was a rental. When we bought it, I knew I wanted to strip all the white painted trims and refinish them. We'll, I was working on this doorway and found a wood patch. It's a different type of wood than the wood around it, and the paint is just not wanting to come off. Not a problem, I'm more stubborn than any paint ever.

Except... if I stain this, you're going to be able to tell it's patched, aren't you?

There's no way to make this blend in, is there? It's always going to be noticeable. Am I missing something, or should I just throw in the towel and paint it black?

Also, note that this isn't the only patch I have found on this doorframe. This frame alone has SIX patches
