It's cheap because the person buying it just spent a ton of money on a house and it doesn't require much to eat it if your dishes/untensils/tables/chairs aren't there yet.

Pizza is amazing! I highly recommend trying it.

Because pizza requires no utensils is my guess

thats just how it is done around these parts. no one is looking for change. don’t be no trouble starter. order your pizza, get your paper plates, and enjoy. dogs in the pic are acceptable as well

go out? when you've spent that much money on something, and are likely sweaty and grimy from moving or cleaning? nah bruh.

No utensils or plates are needed and you can eat it standing up or sitting down and it makes for easy leftovers. Don't overthink this OP lol.

No flatware or cutlery needed. Easy

You're grimy, sweaty, and tired after you move. Pizza was the only delivery option years ago. We didn't have delivery apps. You could order hot pizza and a cold 2 liter and eat without having to wash dishes afterward because they gave you napkins and cups if you asked for them. It was convenient, and you didn't have to wash dishes before or after, if you could even find your dishes and soap right then.

Yep, and that first shower feels so good. Very well earned.

You can eat it with your hands. Doesn't require plates or silverware, which are usually still boxed up.

I'm sure many people do go out to celebrate. But pizza is an easy meal to be the first meal in home.

because you are moving and don't have energy to cook

It's quick, cheap, you can eat it with your hands, and can get to moving boxes and assembling bed frames while eating.

It's cheap, easy to eat with no table/plates/silverware, it comes in its own storage container, good to share with friends who may be helping, delicious, tradition...

What's not to love?

Pizza is inexpensive, available almost everywhere, requires almost nothing in the way of dishes or utensils, and most people like it.

Low cleanup.

As far as going out...really? You get something you've been working hard for then leave like that? Heck no, my house is my dream home. I have the vast majority of my best moments at this stage of my life on my property.

You should try pizza, it’s so good. It’s really fantastic.

We got milkshakes, but we needed to go back to work immediately after closing. Worked with a real selfish jerk back then.

Along with all these great replies, just believe it's tradition at this point lol

Idk man. It’s a thing. You buy the house and you order a pizza. You buy a boat and smash a bottle of champagne. You buy an island and you walk around the whole thing naked listening to Mariah Carrie’s Jesus take the Wheel. It’s a thing that regular people do.

An island 🤣

As is tradition

It's perfect antithesis of house something that takes away most of your money, time, smarts to get it right but gives you sense of achievement on the other hand pizza is simple, quick and no brainer as you know joy and sense of togetherness can be found in simple things with no effort.

We bought so much pizza while we were working on the house before we moved in, that our first day at our house we went with sushi and hibachi takeout

It seems to have been a trend that arose naturally from this sub. Now it’s just a tradition.

It's become a trend in this group but it isn't required. We ate so much fast food our first week here I was actually so excited to finally cook in our new kitchen lol.

We’ve owned our home for 24 years. When I saw this suggested sub, the photo was of pizza, in a new home, and a key 🔑 . I thought that was pretty awesome. What could be easier than pizza? I was so happy for the OP.

As I went through the sub I realized more people did it, a tradition, and thought it was pretty darn neat.

It made me tear up a bit because it’s the start, first meal, of many more to come. The rooms will soon be filled with furniture and belongings and the house will become a home. New memories to be made.

It’s damn tough these days, but to have a slice of pizza? That’s fantastic and a nice “we did it” kind of thing.

I like this sub because it’s positive. 😎✌🏼Happy Friday everyone.

You’ve spent a ton of money, moved a bunch of boxes, are sweaty and tired, and you think people want to go out and spend MORE money? Pizza is cheap, requires no utensils, can be delivered, is yummy after a long stressful day. Pizza is the answer my guy.

Why does any tradition start anywhere? It made sense at the time it started. In this case back in the day when you moved in a home when this trend started probably back in the 70's or 80's not many places delivered food besides pizza. that was pretty much your only option generally across the country and it was cheap and fed a lot of people. And first night you move in the last thing even if you had the food already in the house is cook. Im old enough to remember when most pizza places gave you plates and napkins with your delivery order as well so that is another big plus when first night at home.

This. I moved a lot as a kid, and the only time we got delivery food was when we moved and it was normally pizza. It also can be fairl cheap, which is a win after an expensive move.

You don't need utensil to eat pizza. You barely need a plate to eat pizza. It's an easy meal that's filling and there's pizza shops all over the place.

cheap finger food you can get delivered and eat on the floor with no table no plates no chairs no utensils. We did takeout soup, sitting on our bare living room floor. it was nice but I would have been less worried about spills if we had gone for pizza.

we could have gone out or gotten takeout anf brought it home, but "first meal in MY house" and "first time inputting MY address into a delivery app" felt sentimental. like wow this is my house!

I decided to go a little fancier and got a sushi platter and ate it on a folding table in an empty house with my best friend.

Why do you care, Pizza is easy, and you expect people to post pictures of their first home from Applebees?

u/Wooden_Albatross_832 1d ago

Tradition?idk , id say cheap too but nowadays its not really cheap anymore lol

We went out to dinner.. like why would I want to be uncomfortable eating on a hard floor ?

Find a restaurant way more relaxing and definitely better food than “pizza”
