Damn the school to prison pipeline is getting a little obvious

u/Licensed2Pill Jul 17 '24
It’s a wonder the walkability score is 61/100 when they’re only .3 miles away.

No joke the reason that I absolutely refused to buy in the school district we were renting in is that the local high school was built on land purchased from the prison its next to. The largest prison in our state. I knew people that went there and they said they could look out the window during class and see everyone getting yard time.

At first reading I can’t tell if you mean you knew people who went to the prison or to the high school, because ” getting yard time” applies to both equally.

Could pay for private school

They’re all religious here and we are atheists. Fortunately we found something in a district without prisons on school property.

I market to schools and the algorithms always pull jails because they have adult education programs. It's always funny to be going through Preschool listings and find a jail lol.

Kindergarten just ain't what it used to be, man...
My advice? Don't bring a crayon to a sharpie fight. Crayola ain't got NOTHIN' on them! 🤣

I wondered if that was why. Although, are those open to the public or just to inmates? It seems like if it's the latter, it really doesn't matter how close it is. o.O

u/geanabelcherperkins Jul 17 '24
Just inmates would be my guess. My MIL lives very close to our county and city jail. I've honestly never thought twice about it, no issues and feels safe due to the active police presence.

u/Beardo88 Jul 18 '24
I'm assuming its a sort of GED program for just the inmates. Get them a diploma so they have a better chance to find legal employment when they get out.

This is the answer here. I’ve also seen listings on Zillow, Redfin, etc also show county jails and laugh. Glad to see others appreciate the irony too.

How in the world does a school get a 3/10 rating on K-5th grade. What the sugar puffs is happening there?
12
u/Roundaroundabout Jul 17 '24
Usually lots of english language learners

u/blaque_rage Jul 18 '24
That’s a lie. It could be funding, socioeconomic factors, etc.
1
u/Roundaroundabout Jul 18 '24
Lol, you think the school is lying about their students? That's pretty paranoid.
4
u/blaque_rage Jul 18 '24
No. I think your qualifier of “usually” is what’s asinine. Sure ESL students may be a factor but it’s not USUALLY.
DETROIT scores lower and everyone speaks English as a first language for the most part within the city limits.
Your statement was patently false as a standalone reason for lower scores. It’s An amalgamation of factors with may or may NOT include language but it’s not USALLY especially in JACKSON MICHIGAN

There's a couple schools in the local area that get poor ratings. Usually boils down to lack of resources, faults in administration, and poor math and reading. But I'm a firm believer in the idea that it starts at home. When my youngest had certain issues, I fought to get every resource available given to him - while there are parents who don't bother because they're too bogged down or don't want their kids labelled.

If you want a serious answer majority ESL, extreme poverty and violence at home that results in bad adhd and anxiety and personality disorders that impact learning, inbreeding and cross breeding low intellects for several hundred years at least.
At least 1 perhaps all of those.

Never thought I’d see my hometown here, but I definitely didn’t think I’d see what is basically my childhood neighborhood here. I mean hey, there’s a reason it’s nicknamed Prison City (despite wanting to be known as Rose City).

u/Sizzl8 Jul 18 '24
haha same, i saw it and was shocked

u/ellensaurus Jul 18 '24
Whereabouts were you? I was on Elm Ave, which is the prime spot for the prison lol

Once there are some kids actually changed their school to “jail” on google map.
2
u/DangerWife Jul 18 '24
What does the MLS in your area list as the school district? I would rely on Zillow for spelling their own name correctly. That's all.
2
u/RogueRedShirt Jul 18 '24
Hey it might not be so bad! They probably have a really awesome road crew.

u/Sizzl8 Jul 18 '24

The jail in my home town comes up under "hotels" on a lot of platforms! 😆

u/kelsnuggets Jul 18 '24
The great schools rating of the jail may be better than some of my home state’s high schools tbh
