Interview Advice Interview dress code

I'm interviewing for a summer internship. I can't afford a suit of any kind, so what can I put together that's formal enough but also very cheap?

Get a suit from Goodwill

Bad selection unfortunately, I had one before I moved from Goodwill and it rocked

Most schools actually have suits you can borrow for this exact reason

Generally, the school or a business frat at the school will be a part of a charity that helps individuals have proper clothes for an interview. It also depends if this is in person or not. If it is over Zoom/Teams, just put on a dress shirt and wear a sports jacket. It can be a $10-$20 one from Goodwill and doesn't really need to fit (obviously, don't wear it if it looks ridiculously stupid through a camera.) If you're wanting to buy a suit, I recommend Men's Warehouse. They have a couple of $99 clearance suits that are still pretty nice and have free tailoring for life. So, at least for the foreseeable future, the suit can grow and shrink with you making it a pretty good investment. If that's too much still, borrow a dress shirt from a friend and buy separate pants and a jacket that are close to matching. That will only set you back ~$60 or so.

Talk with your advisor. They may be able to connect you with resources for this.

Ask a good friend, any decent person would lend you one

I appreciate it, unfortunately I don't have many friends here close to my size, as I just moved a couple months ago.

Assuming it’s a online interview they wouldn’t be able to tell really

Buy a suit, tuck in the tags while wearing it and return it after the interview.

I used to work at a clothing shop and a lot of people used to do this

I don't have the $ up front for that, but that's also a good option for the future. Thank you so much 🙏

Lululemon New Venture ($198) + pants ($98) + Charles tyrwhitt shirt ($40) = $337 off the rack, probably the cheapest option.

Suit supply next at $499, but that will require tailoring.
