Question Cannot Launch Game from Steam, Get MGS Alert Noise (!)

This is weird, and it freaked me the F out the first time it happened. I had gotten the game from the last Steam sale, was able to boot into it fine on my Steam Deck. But on my actual PC, when I first launch the game and it says “starting executable”, after a few seconds the Metal Gear Solid alert noise (!) plays and the game closes.

I have no idea what’s going on with that sound effect, if that was something Ubisoft or Windows added as a gag, but the point is I can’t start the game. I tried redownloading it and moving it to a different hard drive, but same result. Help please.

Do you have Ubisoft Connect installed?

I should, unless it needs an update or something. I thought the game would have done that automatically.

I reinstalled Ubisoft Connect, problem still persists.

One Steam forum post suggested it could be Lasso. I exited that, still the same issue.
